The free tools have been great for me, so when I saw a promotional free 6 month offer I thought I'd try out the services. Everyone I talked to was nice, although unreliable as far as following up on questions I had. A few months into what I though was my promotional period, my advisor left the company and I got a new one. Coming up on five months, I asked my new advisor when my promotional period ended (multiple times) and found out that I had actually been charged the entire time. According to them, I didn't meet the $250k account balance to get the promotional offer. Terrible communication on their part. The offer says "$250k in investable assets" at the time to qualify. I thought I met this, but apparently they don't count the 401k that can't be transferred to a PC account, even though they were still managing it. Nobody mentioned this. From the conversations with my advisor, I though I was on a 6 month promotional period still. When I asked for a refund, they offered me 6 months of free services starting now. This company is an absolute joke. Besides them duping me into paying them for 5 months of service, the allocations they gave me are under performing the S&P500 (historically over several years) when I said I want an aggressive portfolio. All trust has been destroyed.

personal capital is a great resource I check it daily. I appreciate the ability to get real time info on my investments and plan what I have for retirement and how long it is projected to last. Of course the recession has tweaked it somewhat Most of my assets are in Fidelity Plan to establish a money market account after liquidating some of stocks (brokerage) first and use this money to supplement my social security and small pension while living in retirement

Support is non existent. I have two tickets that are 2 years (yes 2 years) and now 9 months old. They will give you the same canned response as I see from other users on here. If you want to use a tool to analyze your money, please look elsewhere.

The Personal Capital desktop app is very capable; but their support is nearly useless. They do not provide a phone number to call. They do not have a chat feature. They provide a feature that allows the user to describe the problem. The response is that someone will respond soon. The response is a canned email. That is not helpful. I am looking for an alternate application.

Easy to add accounts. Love the budgeting part, I don’t use that, but really appreciate that it’s available.

Signed-up with Personal Capital as an experiment to test their investment strategy vs. my simple index fund strategy. Their advisor was very engaging throughout the initial stages helping me to develop a strategy that fit my needs. I was convinced enough to give them a substantial amount to manage.

Ran the experiment for 11 months. They outperformed the index funds by less than 1% and with their fees they underperformed by 1.64%. So I decided to close the account and go back to my prior strategy. That's when the pain started...

Personal Capital manages the money, but they will transfer you money to Pershing while they are managing it. When you open your account with Personal Capital they are very helpful in moving the money over to Pershing. However when you close your account they are not at all helpful in moving it back to where you previously had it (in my case ETrade). It took me hours of phone calls with Pershing to sort it all out and get the money moved back. In the process the unmanaged accounts lost $40K in value. Also, when Pershing moved the accounts back to ETrade they didn't liquidate first, they moved over all the securities as is - meaning I then had to manually sell 50+ equities in ETrade - all the while struggling to understand if all the value I was expecting was transferred back. Turns out this transfer doesn't happen all at once, but through a series of transactions over a couple of months.

Fast forward 4 months after closing the Personal Capital accounts. I am still wondering where $40K went and get zero help from Personal Capital and very little from Pershing.

Rated 2 stars because they do actively manage your money and will execute a fairly complex strategy for you that would be extremely labor intensive for you to operate on your own. That part of the value prop is true. But the fees are still heavy and their service (once they have your money) is terrible.

I would not trust Personal Capital with my money again.

Personal Capital is broken most of the time. I have opened dozens of support tickets with the vast majority that go nowhere. Citi Card, Amazon, Navia, etc etc don't work with Personal Capital. It's so frustrating that I am going to go back to Mint or another platform. The "aggregation support" is beyond bad.

I genuinely love Personal Capital. I’ve never had a wholistic view of my net worth before. It provides easy visibility to spend categories and how I’m tracking on expenses vs prior month. I have a few retirement accounts so it’s nice having an aggregated view of all my accounts in one centralized space. I would highly recommend Personal Capital. Both the desktop and mobile (app) view are user friendly.

Personal capital has helped me to keep tabs on all of my finances at a bird's eye view helping me to make the appropriate adjustments.

Personal Capital is a fantastic investment tracking and total Net Worth tracking application. It’s extremely easy to use and helps to even show you how prepared you are for retirement even taking inflation into account based in a goal retirement date. I’ve heard about this app from multiple financial podcasts and tried it out. I immediately disconnected Mint from my accounts and deleted that app to use this. I still use EveryDollar for budgeting purposes though.

To make this a 5 star app/program, I’d love the ability to budget out specific categories and I’d like to do away with the “smart categorization” of transactions. They’re often wrong and take more time to correct the category than it would be to simply categorize each transaction as it came in. It would also be nice to be able to exclude certain accounts from cash flow / budget calculations (such as 401(k) investments, HSA purchases or contributions, etc…)

EveryDollar is still by far the best budgeting app I have ever used but personal capital is wonderful for everything else. I’m blown away by the features that are offered without a paid version.

dishonest company, they review your transaction in the background and your balance, phone calls and Harasse clients offering services, when email support get some template of a response with no connection to the issue....
to prove my point just got a reply from them, that has NOTHING to do with my review....what a joke.

Personal Capital has not been able to link with Capital One to update accounts in more than 6 weeks. An error message says it usually resolves in days. Customer Service has no solution or resolution. Do not recommend.

This software has been so helpful to me in seeing an overview, full snapshot of my financial situation and also helping me budget smarter and more quickly and efficiently. What did I do without it?!!! Plus it is extremely intuitive and free.

Easy way to keep an eye on my finances over time.

Love this App. Everything that you would ever want in one concise application is there for your review. I also like that it will identify all financial accounts and will post accurate information. This is the ultimate App..

It was a great company until they were purchased. After that, the company turned south quickly. They sold their expensive 0.89% service rate as beating index by 1% with their superior diversification strategy. Under-performed by 1% so would have been better off in a robo-account. Used to have great advisors, but then turnover accelerated. When I left, advisors weren't even responding to emails. Also, the dashboard consistently had problems that were never addressed.

This allows me to manage all of my accounts on one platform !!!!

Personal Capital provides a very smooth interface that allows me to track my net worth across categories easily. I love getting a big picture of my financial status over time and the ability to zoom in on a day, time period, or category. Highly recommend!

Phenomenal service, I love having my entire financial picture all in one place. Allows me to keep focused on the big picture and not lose focus from the small picture of day to day finances.
