Helen, Amy and Timmy were awesome! I learned a lot and enjoyed meeting and becoming friends with the members of our group. Fitzroy and Green island are absolutely beautiful. There’s a lot of down time in the afternoon to freely snorkel or walk around the islands. They were very inclusive of my vegan diet— delicious lunches!! All in all I had a great time and would recommend this opportunity (:

Had the best time saw lots of new things and learnt lots about the animals and about the culter here in Australia.

Great food and staff service, learnt a lot and had amazing opportunities to explore the mountains, reefs, seas and even some local restaurants in Cairns

Oceans 2 Earth is a great organization for anyone looking to volunteer and have some fun while doing it. The program is very well organized and it is clear how you are making an impact. Helen, Amy, and Tim are all great group leaders. You are able to see all sorts of different marine life while volunteering. Can’t recommend this organization enough for anyone looking to volunteer and explore the Great Barrier Reef!

O2E is a great organization! I did the Great Barrier Reef Marine Conservation program in Cairns for 10 days, and I loved it. I could tell O2E puts a lot of thought and effort into their programs, and I really liked the staff. They were very knowledgeable and helpful, and they were great at running the program. I learned a lot and had lots of fun, felt taken care of, and overall really enjoyed my time. The program was very organized and is managed very well. I could sense the care and love put into running their volunteer programs. My specific program involved a scuba component for 3 days on a liveaboard ship, where I completed an Advanced Open Water certification. Then we did 5 days of marine research and conservation. We went to two different islands throughout the week. We identified fish species, assessed the coral health, did a beach clean-up, and learned about the local and aboriginal culture, traditions, and history. We had lots of fun, spent lots of time in the sun, saw amazing marine life, and enjoyed Cairns. I highly recommend O2E and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Conservation program.

This is an amazing experience with a great organization. They do so much for the marine life and you learn a lot. There is also so much education on the culture which is so fun to learn! This is a once in a lifetime experience you wont regret.

Ive had an amazing time volunteering with this program, excited for another week! I have learned a lot about the great barrier reef and the indigenous history in the area. it has been a wonderful experience, and the people make it even better (both staff and other volunteers). Staff are very kind and knowledgeable, happy to share stories with you and find more cool marine life!

I underestimated the heat initially but if you’re drinking LOTS of water and eating well you’ll be fine, listen to your body!!

My experience with O2E has been nothing short of amazing! I completed my Open Water Dive Certificate on a live aboard boat in week one (which was one of the best things I’ve ever done), and did marine research and conservation work on Fitzroy and Green Island in week two. Our days were all nicely balanced, with volunteer work including surveys and marine debris collection in the mornings, before participating in cultural activities and relaxing in the afternoon. Our coordinators/guides Helen, Amy and Timmy were all awesome and super knowledgable, and really made the trip as good as it was. The amount of marine life we saw along the way too- including sting rays, turtles and sharks- was mind blowing! I would highly recommend this program to anyone looking to visit the Great Barrier Reef and leave it a better place than when you found it!

This experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity to not only see and learn about one of the seven natural wonders of the world, but also to get hands on experience that directly impacts the reef and the maintenance of its incredible biodiversity. The program was a perfect balance of “work” and relaxation, but being on the reef certainly didn’t feel like work at all! Thank you O2E for an experience that I won’t forget :)

I had the best week EVER with O2E! Helen, Tim, and Amy are all insanely knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. So thankful for all of the opportunities they gave us and showing us so many cool things.

I seriously couldn’t recommend this program enough. You learn so much
about not only the ecology/marine life of the Great barrier but the culture ancestry behind the islands. Such a beautiful experience, and the energy of the staff create an even greater experience. It will forever be one of my favorite adventures!🤍

I am currently half way through a 2-week project with Ocean2Earth in Cairns, Australia. So far the experience has been great. We have three stuff members looking after 15 of us, including a culture guide who teaches us indigenous traditions and customs. We get to learn to respect the land and the sea that we work on. We are working on the Great Berrier Reef on Fitzroy or Green Island just off the coast of Cairns. The days usually involves doing coral watch and eye on the reef survey. We report on reef health by recording the color of the coral and type of fish we can find in certain areas. We also did beach clean today. My team of 4 picked up over 10kg of rubbish!! Tomorrow we will be doing turtle survey which everyone is looking forward to. We have leant a lot about marine lives and our impact on the environment. Our work contribute to many research organisations around world and their study.

We are a team from all over the world and of all ages. It is a fun and friendly community to be part of. The stuff are all knowledgeable and look after us well. They gave a very good detailed introduction day and continued to provide all the information we need each day. Communication is very efficient via a WhatsApp group and Google drive sharing photos.

Feel I should also mention the lunches provided so far. Everyday has been different and the quality of food has been very good.

All in all the experience so far has been great. I am sad I am already half way through but looking forward to the remaining week.

My review is based on the experience in Borneo. It was awesome from start to finish.

Samboja Lodge: the rooms, the staff, the food and the location is awesome. Although I thought I would lose weight with the work and humidity but due to the awesome food - I think I put it on!
Only short walk from the Lodge to where we worked ... although 'sun bear' hill is a challenge for my little legs lol

The BOS coordinator for this trip for us lucky vollies was second to none, Louise (Lou) Grossfeldt. Currently curator of primates at Sydney Zoo, published author and much more (google her :))

To have such an awesome human being with us each day who is also a wealth of knowledge on the subject matter was breathtaking.

The BOS Indonesian technicians are all round awesome & inspiring - including Sem & Wiwik who work with & supervise the vollies. Can't speak highly enough of all 3 (Lou, Wiwik & Sem) and how much the whole experience was so rewarding because of them. It was also fun with many laughs & memories created.

Don't get me wrong, it was exhausting work some days but with a fairly reasonable variation of tasks and working alongside a group of like minded vollies made it a great experience.

Tasks included prepping enrichment, painting enclosures, collecting browse from the 'jungle', building platforms and others.

There was also a couple of day trips (on our days off) including canopy tree walk, river trip (proboscis monkeys) and lunch in Balikpapan.

The work and passion of all involved with BOS is inspiring and I encourage anyone who is thinking of doing this trip to do it. Check out BOS Australia - I am now sponsoring an orangutan. To be in the vicinity of these creatures is ❤️ heart wrenching but hopeful for the releasable.

Imo There are a few opportunities for improvements regards comms from O2E in the lead up to the trip but from the time I arrived at the Lodge until the day I left, it was a very special trip thanks to all with BOS, associated with the Lodge & fellow vollies.

The sounds and faces from my time in Samboja will stay with me forever.
Much wildlife to be spotted including the captivating Sun Bears & Orangutans.

Very competent guides that help having a good expperience. You can learn a lot about the aboriginal culture with Timmy. The chosen hostel is quiet although the provided lunch wasn't great. All in all good expperience

Very fun! Would recommend for all people looking to see the best of Australia and unique culture!

Thanks a lot! With this programme you get a good insight into how to monitor the reef. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. Also, it is very cool that Timmy introduced us to the cultur of the indigenous people from the area (thanks to Timmy). The only thing I would want to point out is that more information on individual species of coral and fishs could be provided in the beginning, so you know what exactly you are looking at.

Totally loved this experience!! Helen, Amy & Timmy did an amazing job supervising this volenteering project and taught me & the others so much about marine life & how to survey it. Timmy also taught us about the aboriginal & indigenous culture which was great to learn. I would definitely recommend it!!

A very rich experience. Learned about the Great Barrier Reef and its ecosystem, sea life and culture. Breathtaking nature! Helen, Timmy and Amy were a pleasure to spend time with and the work was not complicated. Sometimes it would have been nice to know more in advance about the details of the program of the week. The stay at YHA is nice. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone!
