I participated in farm life project, it was great. We were 2-4 volunteers working with 20 Joey's, 20 wombats and some other animals. We were hosted by farm owners in their house and they took care of us as of family members. The place wasn't about going out and partying, it was about working with animals in the middle of nowhere. I absolutely loved it! Amazing experience and amazing people. I would do it again!

Helen was with us throughout the whole week and she‘s so chill and knows so much about marine wild life. We learned about different animals we would see before starting the snorkeling activities. I expected a bit more work - there is one activity per day (ie. snorkeling and surveying for about an hour). I have had a really nice time throughout the program, but it was quite expensive and I expected more for the money. Overall, I enjoyed meeting everyone, the staff is lovely, the islands are beautiful (3x Fitzroy Island, 1x Green Island during the first week), but the information on the internet is kind of misleading. Also the information given in advance to the project is a bit vague in regard to what‘s going to be part of the project.

The program was a really cool experience! Both Helen and Sam were fantastic and Trish was also super helpful with questions leading up to the program. Some of the program descriptions were a little confusing though, so I would recommend making the program more clear. I know I could’ve asked questions to clarify but I think making things clear upfront can be helpful in reducing that Q&A overhead as well. Some examples that could use clarification are making it clear that scuba diving is not required for the volunteer program and that there are no options to scuba dive during the volunteer portion even if you wanted to (only snorkeling). The scuba diving portion of the program is fully coordinated by PADI and PRODIVE Cairns, O2E only books it for you (with a discount which is nice). I also wish there would’ve been more details about the day-to-day or week-to-week volunteer activities so that I had more awareness about what we’d be doing each day. I know there are general examples of what activities take place, but more details would be cool to figure out if I wanted to do more than one week (if a specific week had a unique experience like camping for example). This level of detail would also help with planning my packing more efficiently.

All that to say, I loved the program. The scuba diving certification and liveaboard experience was truly one of kind and changed my life. And the subsequent week of volunteering was awesome to learn more about Cairns, conservation, and Australia in general. I built a ton of new friendships and made a bunch of memories that I’ll remember forever.

Helen was particularly awesome. I think it’s so cool how she runs this entire program and can tailor the experience to the volunteers. The volunteer portion is very personable and she does a great job of letting the volunteers influence how much they put into it and if they’re interested in doing a specific volunteer activity more than another. I would definitely recommend this program for people looking to learn more about Australia, the Great Barrier Reef, and to build some life experiences. While I’m in my late 20s and still had fun, I could see this program being super rewarding for people that are right out of high school or college and looking for an international volunteering experience.

O2E were extremely communicative at every stage of the program. Helen is a great coordinator with lots of experience and knowledge on the reef and snorkelling. I would recommend this program to anyone interested in marine life and wanting an incredible experience.

It was an incredibly rewarding experience to spend time volunteering at Samboja Lodge for the Orangutans and Sun Bears with the guidance of Caleb and Claire, plus the Indonesians Wiwik and Sam. The accomodation was simple but adequate, the staff cooked special food for me as I have IBS. The tasks we were asked to do were fun and I really enjoyed working with all the people in our group. There was a lot of laughter. It was very humid but any discomfort was worth it to see these beautiful orangutans and sun bears up close, and to be able to do a little bit to help them.

Samboja lodge was an amazing place to stay , comfortable clean and great food. Making a difference to endangered animals was a great feeling . Oceans2earth made going there easy, Caleb made us feel welcome and our days fill with great experiences, all the staff we frieldy and helpful. Totally recommend

The people running the project are great, but the actual activities were a little misleading. Still very fun and great to see the different islands around the reef but I thought we would get to see more of the inner barrier and spend more time diving. Fun experience if you have never really done snorkeling or anything, but would say you only need the one week to do and see everything.

I have done two different projects with Oceans 2 earth both with great people included the owners/crew of the places. The reason to the 3 stars is the misinformation you get by Ocean 2 earth, or the information you don’t really get. On my stay I had to spend more money than I already did because it say more meals was included which it wasn’t, and I also think the Island research program is too expensive for what you get out it. I wouldn’t do these programs again, but it was still nice to try.

I enjoyed the snorkeling, coral watch, and visiting Fitzroy island and green island (the cultural tour was a highlight). Lunch was usually yummy but I am a flexible eater. The only issue was it’s a little unclear what the day to day activities of the program were when signing up. Maybe if the general weekly schedule was posted with the program pictures that would clarify things. Overall, great experience though, saw some nice sea life while snorkeling, and learned a fair amount!

This whole program was a great experience and i would recommend to other people that also have interest in the ocean and marine life. The first week of this program was amazing getting my open water certificate. All the instructors at prodive were helpful and supportive. The next week doing the ocean 2 earth volunteering was also great but there was a few things that i thought were going to be a little different, for example the description for the program stated i’d be in a room with 4-6 ppl and i was with 10, and i didn’t get much help with this when explaining it to the staff at yha or ocean 2 earth. I also thought that I would be doing a lot more work within the reef as i read this in the description, but this wasn’t the case. I had a lot of fun doing the surveys and snorkelling most days. Helen, Amy and Sam were also all so amazing, they are all so nice and were very helpful.

Helen, Amy, and Sam were wonderful project leaders. They always showed up with lots of enthusiasm and were excited to teach us throughout the day. Overall, the snorkeling activities were enjoyable and the surveys were manageable. It would be good, though, if O2E were able to paint a more realistic picture of what we would do day to day, as there is not as much research and science and some of us expected, and the surveys only last 1-2 hours per day.

i really enjoyed the program! we did a lot of coral watch and our project leaders helen, amy and sam gave us very interesting information about the reef and the animals living there - especially turtles 🐢
it was a bit hard to get all the information sorted (i booked with love volunteers and i did my padi owd & a liveaboard with prodive and stayed at the yha) because it came from different organisations. so i e. g. thought i would be scuba diving during my volunteer work but it was „just“ snorkelling -> scuba diving would have been a week later in the program. i probably missed that information in all the different mails and so on…
but i had a great time and i loved the trips to the islands (tue, thu, fri fitzroy; wed green island) and also that we had the possibility to see the islands itself aswell (e. g. hike to the summit on fitzroy, cultural tour on green island…)
furthermore i think o2e does a good job with what they do!

Easy website to navigate and good comms from support team

I had a great experience with O2E, from the liveaboard and getting my scuba open water certification, to the different ways we were able to help with marine conservation.

The experience has been great. There is very good communication and organisation and scheduling. Instructions are clear and precise and there is great transparency. The team and staff is fantastic and make the experience so enjoyable and lovely! Would definitely recommend to a friend and sign up again.

This is my 3rd time with O2E and I have thoroughly enjoyed each experience.
Tracy in the office has always been extremely helpful and quick to answer my questions.
I have done the Marine Conservation twice now and Helen and Tim are great leaders.
My first Marine Conservation involved doing my Rescue Divers Course then I went on to do some marine conservation and research.
I learnt heaps, saw loads of marine wildlife, dived and snorkelled on the reef, met amazing people and had a fabulous time.
