**Added*** I finally found the cancel and request refund which I have done - the process of the way this site runs it’s subscription is very poor way of doing business for their customers ** Signed up to free trial , cancelled it and today I have been charged £59.99 what the actual hell , Newspapers.com by Ancestry , absolute rip off no contact number to request refund as completely unwanted subscription and to be charged 6 months in one hit disgusting 🤮 STAY AWAY

I have been a subscriber to Newspaper.com for over six years now. My subscription expired Dec 14 2023 so after a week I renewed. Then I tried to sign on it would say no subscription. So I call, no one called back. I emailed, I did get a reply but no solution. Apparently I renewed making a mistake in my email address, I tried several different ways but still could not access the website. In my view the only way to resolve is to refund the payment so I can go in and sign up the correct way, but the email replys stoped. I tried calling again and still waiting for a reply. Im at a loss, I paid 107.18 Canadian, no small change. Case new 17180118 old 1715760

I signed up for the 7 free trail and before I could cancel because it was completely in useful to me newspapers.com charged me 142$ ?? I wrote to them January 3,2024 and the response was I would hear from them in at least 2 days!! It’s now the 10th NO RESPONSE!! Plus you cannot call. Then it say one email is sufficient??? Complete and utter BS. Watchout people!! Where is my refund?

At a loss for words. I'm not sure where Newspapers.com went wrong, and I'm not sure if other newspaper sites are as unuseful as this one, but until someone comes up with a more complete menu of Newspapers, and is CLEAR on what this are, right from the start; and, specializes, so that we know what we're getting; AND has customer support available during the trial period, I don't see how it can continue to exist as a pay site.

Should be called, "Some Newspapers, Some of the Time" dot com. Two stars because I could access some very helpful articles from old 19th Century midwestern newspapers.

UPDATE: From the response from Newspapers.com below, the phrase "bait and switch" comes to mind. I thought the free offer was for the best of what they had to offer. How am I to know what's available in the seven day window unless I have access to those articles. In the meantime, I've looked online at other reviews, and I stand by my previous comments: Newspapers has got to do better if they want to survive long term.

Having an internet archive of historical newspapers would be an incredible boon for historians and research of all stripes. This is especially important at a time when many newspapers are closing their doors, and the curation of their historical records is in question.

I came across newspapers.com in a web search, and found an article from a 1933 newspaper from my hometown which promised all sorts of interesting information.

Unfortunately, the information was garbled. For starters, it appears that newspapers.com mashed all of the columns on the scanned page into a single block of text, apparently without any concern for continuity. A paragraph of the history of street names suddenly became part of a paragraph about an air-show, which just as abruptly turned into a discussion of the opening of a new local school, before jumping mid-sentence into a different part of the street-name column. This happened, without segue, throughout the page, making it difficult -- and in some cases impossible -- to separate the various articles sufficiently to make any sense out of them.

Adding insult to injury, the text is also riddled with unedited, uncorrected OCR errors, such as:

"named for Francis W. lawyer and leader of the Democratic part; In the '50's. i I ;3 wmiffmnmrriiwairrnwiii l.jdia street, In the First ward, has Its Hume from l.jdia Knapp, wife of Daniel S."

If you can make any sense of that, you are a far better scholar than I.

The bottom line is, this is a great idea, but without editing and proper organization, it's little better than useless. Given this example, I was not motivated to subscribe to the service.

I too have been scammed by NEWSPAPERS.COM. I signed up for a free one week trial to get a recipe from the Minneapolis Star Tribune archives which was routed to newspapers.com. without my realizing it was a different entity. After receiving the recipe I immediately canceled the subscription. I received an email on day 8 stating that since I had not canceled by day 7 my card was being charged $74.95 for 6 month subscription. This is outrageous! I have asked my cardholder to investigate and demand a full refund. Buyer beware with this company, unlawful business practices with zero transparency or conscience.

I am delighted to renew my subscription to newspaper.com -. Of all the historical, genealogical sites used for genealogy research, newspaper.com. is one of the best. Moreover, they are absolutely kind and wonderful when you write to them for questions etc. They offer also regularly free one week look at their site, which is very kind. That’s how we discovered the site but now we take the six months subscription and are very happy.
Excellent site for anyone interested in genealogy or history.

I found an article on Newspapers.com that I wanted to download so I subscribed for a month. There was nothing on the page telling me that I was only subscribing to that ONE newspaper. Now I cannot view anything unless I pay another subscription to view other newspapers. They are offering to charge me $7.95 for each newspaper separately that I view per month. This is clearly a scam.

I’ve been getting charged for mini mini months 795 sometimes twice a month don’t know what this is for. Also, I’ve heard people say that they get scammed from an African country when dealing with this newspaper why can’t you protect people that send you money

An absolute scam! I never signed up nor used this so-called service and received an email that they auto-renewed at a crazy price! Beware and avoid. You can see by their trust pilot rating that they are obviously a scam.

I keep getting charged for a subscription. It is impossible to cancel or to get help on canceling it. Can someone please HELP!

I recently signed up for a free trial after I read some of the reviews. I am not to be added to the subscription until 10/10/2023. I would like to cancel this, please.

Edit: from the reply below one of my many attempts at communicating with this business must have worked. The problem I have is that no one contacted me by phone or email to let me know they were refunding me. I changed to three stars because I did get my refund

I signed up for seven day trial. I forgot I had an account that was old, probably from a trial too. When I put in my name etc it auto populated with this old email address and I did not notice. I cannot access this email address anymore so now I can’t get into the account to cancel because I do not remember the password and can’t access the forgot password email. I couldn’t cancel before the trial even though I sent numerous emails to newspapers.com explaining what happened. No response. Now they’ve charged my credit card and still after emails and numerous calls to them no response. I’m going to have to go through the hassle of disputing the charge and canceling my credit card to stop them from charging me again. Buyer beware. If you have a problem you’re on your own.

I cancelled my membership at the end of a year; it is shown as cancelled but my credit card was billed anyway. It is almost impossible to find a phone number to call; not on your website. I found one, called at 10:30 a.m and got a message saying it was outside your business hours of 9-4 and to leave a message. What kind of way is this to run a business?

Hello, I was recently a subscribed member on the Newspapers website, I wasn't told of how much money would be taken OUT OF MY ACCOUNT for the trial without my PERMISSION or AUTHORIZATION. Also, please make it clear what the insane amount would be charged for the customer so that they can aware AHEAD of time. Now, go to my account and give me back my money.

I must agree that the "basic" plan is absolutely worthless. Don't waste your time here.

For all of you out there considering a subscription to Newspapers.com, unless you purchase the Publisher Extra, it's practically useless. Don't pay expecting to find information. You will probably get a message "Available with Publisher Extra" Just sayin'.......

There’s been a falsified article that has been haunting me for the past 7 years of my life. Thanks to Lana for going above and beyond and getting others involved to finally having this article removed, I am looking forward to having my reputation restored and getting my life back! I’m forever grateful to Lana at Newspapers.com.

If they have it then you can find it. So it's worth it for a month. My concern is that they push through a 6 month or yearly charge on the bank card you give them. They've reversed the charge but you've got to catch them quickly. It's a typical fraud for companies that are not ethical.
