There is NO Customer Service
I paid my Newspapers.com subscription, but have NEVER been able to use it. It considers me a "guest". I've written them asking for help. I've received multiple replies stating they'll contact me in a few days, and stating it won't help to continually send messages. I was given a phone number, but that number tells you to WRITE that same address that I've written for several months. I've NEVER received ANY help. June will be one year. I missed stopping the second automatic payment. I've hoped, I could figure out the problem or that someone would finally assist me. Sadly, that still hasn't happened. That's too much money to throw away. I'm VERY upset!

I will NEVER deal with newspapers.com ever again. There seems to be NO WAY TO CANCEL! I began with a 14-day free trial and have spent 13 days trying to cancel it. There is no way to SPEAK TO A PERSON, and it feels like they are deliberately trying to run the clock down to lock you int a 6 month contract at the rate of $60 monthly! I have followed their steps several times, I've gone through their chat bot, that will not be helpful in canceling.
I can't believe Ancestry.com doesn't know what this company is doing. For those who don't know, when you sign up for the "free" trial, you must also sign up for Newspapers.com and Eathview. They make sure you know that you must cancel each trial separately, even though you are able to sign up for all three on Ancestry.com. They will be getting my next review. I'm almost 70, but this isn't a function of my age, it is a function of a company skating on the thin ice of scamming.

Download limits imposed on subscribers. No more than 250 clippings or articles to save. Also 2 captcha security verification through cloudflare servers. This was never an issue previously. I sent an email to the company and was informed policies have changed due to AI and robots and drm regulations.
They're supposed to be an archive of historic newspapers. Why should they care as long as the subscriber pays to use the website? These companies assume that people who use the Internet are pirating materials and content, stealing, etcetera. Typical American business capitalism attitude. Also very disrespectful towards paying subscribers. I always get the same
boiler plate canned excuses. Corporations want to control everything on this planet. Knowledge is a fundamental right, not a privilege just for the corporate elite. I am boycotting American products and services The US is a country of con artists and scammers .You are not welcome in Canada

Useless in Pittsburgh, no customer service
Honestly, I think this might be a scam. This has been the most useless subscription service (and most expensive) that I’ve ever used. I just realized after years of subscribing that the reason I wasn’t finding anything I was looking for is because Newspapers.com doesn’t include two of the main newspapers in my city (Pittsburgh).
I’ve also messaged them more than once for help about different issues and have never heard back. Not once.
This will be my last subscription. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone took them to task legally with their awful customer service and misleading offerings.

I want my money back
I cancelled my subscription a long time ago and my account reflects that. I no longer have a paying subscription. Yet, my card shows a charge from Newspaper.com for $74! I looked at it has my card info saved.
This is a horrible company. I do not recommend. It is a scam and they have NO customer service to reach!

Stay well away from this company
I started a free trial after a link to a newspaper came up whilst searching using Ancestry.com. I was concerned that a months subscription was immediately taken and so decided that I wanted to cancel. The instructions on how to cancel do not work and I can see no way to do this online. I have emailed twice asking to cancel and have not received a response. Wish I'd not bothered to sign up for trial and am now having to contact my bank to stop any further payments being taken. This issue has caused me significant worry. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS COMPANY

Complete Waste Of Money
Feel like I've been conned.
For most of England they have nothing more recent than 2014. Totally useless for historical research.
I contacted support about this and received what seems to be an automated reply. Not good enough.
FindMyPast may be a poor genealogical site but its newpaper section is vastly superior to this.
Will be cancelling Ancestry too.
Addendum: Concur with others, if you do find something don't expect it to make it into Ancestry in a readable state. If you don't want it hopelessly blurred you need to download and upload yourself, thus doubling the work. Fold3 has the same problem.
In response to their response:
1. the product is oversold
2. what's the point in an unreadable placeholder?
3. this model means that I and anyone who wants to read my tree needs a Newpapers account/subscription. I can see how this benefits them but is a part of their business model that means I won't use them any more.

Pure Rubbish!
It used to be a good source. Now since Ancestry bought it it’s totally useless!! What a shame! Before you could read a whole newspaper cover to cover. Now tiny snippets highlighted in yellow with your query and as
blurry as can be. Ancestry took a valuable sight and turned it into pure rubbish. Isn’t modern AI total BS! Optical my arse!

Unreadable images
Way too many scans are completely unreadable on this site. They're so blurry or faded out that I can't even use the articles for my research. They're worthless. There are other sites with crystal-clear images of journals and newspapers, why can't yours be like that? I imagine it's too late to rescan millions of newspapers at this point, but why were they done that way from the start, no absolutely no quality control?

Access to content taken away from basic membership
I have had a basic subscription with newspapers.com for over five years. I have used that subscription to access several newspapers but mainly to access the Times Recorder newspaper from Zanesville, Ohio. My basic subscription gave me access to the years from 1885 to and including 1977 for this paper. Access to the years 1978 and later required a premium membership. However, two weeks ago, I found that I could not access this paper for any years. Then, a couple of days ago, I found that I was able to access this newspaper for the years 1885 to 1928 but to access the paper for any other years now requires a premium subscription. So, access to the years from 1929 to 1977 for the Times Recorder that my basic membership gave me for over five years has now been taken away from me (without any notice) unless I upgrade to a premium membership which I do not want to do due to the extra cost. I could not find any phone number listed on the newspapers.com website for customer support that would enable me to talk to anyone so I went to their "Contact Us" webpage and left them a message describing the problem. I received a standard email that said "We have received your message and will make every effort to respond within 1 - 2 business days". However, it has now been two weeks since I left that message and I have received no response. This is a terrible way to treat a long time customer and I will probably have to cancel my subscription which will be very disappointing.

This is a plea for forgiveness
This is a plea for forgiveness. On Oct 22 2024 I wrote a critical review of newspapers.com regarding my belief that my 7-day free trial was shortened to 1 day. My inability to get back on the site was MY FAULT. NEWSPAPERS.COM contacted me and facilitated my access. Once I figured it out: it's been working fabulously. I took out a 6-month subscription. APOLOGIES to newspapers.com: MY BAD!!!

Credit card charge I did not authorize.
I did not order a subscription to Newspapers but they got my credit card from Ancestry and charged me for a 6 month subscription. They refused to refund my money. Ancestry refused to help me since the charge was not made through them. Newspapers was the one to charge me even though I did not order it. No person to talk to about the problem, only Email. After 6 weeks of back and forth with Newspapers they told me no refund was possible, for I was past the 4 week cancellation time allowance. It did not matter to them that through Email it took over a week each time for them to get back to me, and it took 3 weeks from their charge for it to show up on my credit card. Terrible customer service and no person to even call. Horrible company to deal with.

Here is what went wrong. I wrote them and they finally answered me with my correct logon name. They also verified my email and said they would be sending me a link to reset my password. I have never received it and I checked spam.
They answered my previous review online and wanted me to post my email for them to locate even though they answered me via email.
What is up with these folks? I will give them one more chance if I dont receive a link to reset, I will contact my bank and dispute the charge.
