Mex rent a car company is a scam. They are thieves. I prepaid the car with cdw and liability already included. The where pushy on upselling me additional insurance. After all my prepaid amount they wanted $50 dollars extra per day. For 7 Days my total was $700 us dollars.
Stay away I warn you.

Horrible customer service at the Miami location, tried forcing me to get their insurance, would only accept mine, if I prepaid them $2,500.00. Would not refund, I just cancelled and used uber.

Worst experience ever! They make you purchase the extra CDW insurance. After a dent to the vehicle, I was informed that the insurance does really cover anything. Then they continuously change the price of the damages. Once I got my personal insurance involved, they sent over an estimate for all damage on the vehicle. Including those that already existed. I had to get lawyers involved. Worst rental company. Would give them less than one star if I could. Stay FAR FAR FAR away from them. I'd rather walk everywhere then rent from this company again.

Totally agree with the reviews below. Do not use this company. Still haggling with them about my refund for a vehicle that I did not pick up. Do not honor unlimited miles and will make you take additional insurance. Do not use this company or you will regret it.

Don't use this company unless you want to get scammed. I got tricked into paying more than 10 times the original rental fee for 'additional services'. They also claimed to have found a large scratch that would have incurred a fee of over 1000 euros (had I not been tricked into taking out the 'all inclusive packed)

They are scammers.
During reservation it only said unlimited miles, and no geographic restrictions mentioned.
However during pickup the agent stated they would charge a penalty of $1000

Nous sommes arrivés à minuit avec une réservation déjà payée en ligne. Sur place, on nous annonce qu’il faut ajouter plus de 200 $ pour une assurance soi-disant “obligatoire”, totalement floue, avec une histoire de responsabilité civile. C’est faux. J’avais déjà toutes les assurances nécessaires via ma carte bancaire, et j’ai loué plusieurs fois au Mexique sans jamais avoir ce problème — preuve en est, nous avons reloué une voiture ailleurs juste après, sans aucune difficulté.

Résultat : refus catégorique de nous donner le véhicule si nous ne payions pas. Aucun dialogue possible.

La personne à l’accueil a été extrêmement désagréable : aucune empathie, aucune explication claire, comportement limite agressif. On nous a fait attendre jusqu’à 3h du matin dans ces conditions.

C’est une technique bien rodée : vous fatiguer, vous mettre sous pression pour vous pousser à payer.

C’est tout simplement du vol.

Nous sommes actuellement en procédure de remboursement avec la plateforme, et cela prend du temps.

S’il vous plaît, n’allez surtout pas chez eux. Vous allez perdre votre temps, votre énergie, et repartir sans voiture… sauf si vous acceptez de vous faire dépouiller.

À éviter à tout prix.

⭐ 1 Star – The Most Frustrating Car Rental Experience I’ve Ever Had

Avoid MEX Rent A Car if you value your time, peace of mind, and transparency.

I booked a car online because the advertised price looked like a great deal. The rental itself was around $200 for five days. I thought I had found a bargain. What I actually found was one of the most stressful travel experiences I’ve ever had.

The problem is not that they charge for insurance or tolls. Every rental company does that. The problem is that you don’t get a clear picture of the real costs until you are standing at their kiosk after making a non-refundable reservation.

Once I arrived, I was connected to an agent through a video call. That’s when the surprises started. Insurance options, toll options, additional costs, and various requirements suddenly appeared. At that point, what are you supposed to do? Your reservation is already made, your money is already committed, and canceling doesn’t help because the booking is non-refundable.

It felt like I was trapped. Every direction I looked had another obstacle. Want to decline their insurance? Then prove your own coverage. Want to use your credit card coverage? Go verify it. Want to use your personal auto insurance? Go verify that too. The agent was polite and provided options, but the entire process was exhausting and dragged on for nearly an hour.

What should have been a quick pickup became a stressful negotiation just to avoid turning a $200 rental into something closer to $500+. Between insurance, toll-related costs, and other add-ons, the final numbers being discussed were shocking compared to the price that originally attracted me to book.

Meanwhile, friends traveling with me rented from other major companies and paid reasonable prices that included the coverage they needed without all this confusion and pressure.

The pickup process ruined the start of my trip.

Then came the return process.

The return location information was confusing, and I wasted valuable time trying to find where to drop off the vehicle. I was on my way to the airport and ended up losing around 30 minutes because of it. Customer support was difficult to reach when I needed help, which only added more stress.

So MEX managed to do something impressive: they ruined both the beginning and the end of my trip.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this experience was so frustrating that I felt obligated to warn other travelers. The advertised price got me through the door, but the experience that followed made me wish I had booked with Enterprise, Budget, Avis, or practically any other major rental company.

This was not a good deal. It was a stressful, time-consuming, and frustrating experience from start to finish. I will never rent from MEX again.

Al igual que otros muchos, he sido estafado en esta oficina. Para recoger el coche exigen la contratacion de un seguro de responsabilidad de daños a terceros para cubrir importe superior a 750mil pesos como "supuestamente" exige la ley. En su pagina web claramente indican que no hace falta ningun tipo de cobertura adicional. El coste duplicaba el precio total del alquiler.

Cuando fuimos a dejarlo en la oficina de la Paz, no fueron capaces de justificar esta practica indicando que deberiamos haberlo solucionado con su oficina de los Cabos.
Son unos estafadores y aconsejo a todos que huyan de aqui.
Por mi parte ya esta en manos de mi banco el rechazo al pago de este seguro.

This company does not advise of their own EXTRA insurance REQUIREMENT for drivers over the age limit. Also, a very sketchy VIDEO CHAT is used for the rental at the agency (Stride, Mex, Next, etc).
I used a 3rd party through my fraternal organization. Normally, we would pay all costs upfront, although they didn’t charge taxes & fees. It was a shock to initially pay $183.50 for a car at MIA, then to be charged an additional $280. We later figured it all out, prepaying for Toll Charges, + the extra for a driver over 74 (he’s 75).
Suggestion: DO NO GO WITH THESE COMPANIES, pay the rate of REPUTABLE local car rental companies. We felt completely scammed as the total charges for 5 days was just under $500! From 184 to +460 was a shock!

Avoid at all costs! I rented a car in Oaxaca from Mex via 3rd party travel site that clearly included the mandatory 3rd party liability insurance (required in Mexico) in the price of the rental. At the rental desk when I went to pick up the car they claimed this insurance from the 3rd party booking site was not valid anywhere in Mexico and forced me to pay for their insurance that was 10x cost of the actual rental itself (or I would have no car for my vacation). When I got the final invoice after returning the car they itemized the "insurance" payment as multiple other items (extra drivers fee, pre-paid gas, too many km) that were fake to hide the fact they'd charged me so much for "insurance". Nothing less than fraud.

TERRIBLE! Not much more I can add that others haven't already. I don't understand how a company like this is allowed to exist with such predatory practices. I had event emailed my insurance policy to them 1 week prior to avoid the nonsense- they attempted to force me to buy their insurance as a condition to rent the car (illegal).

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. You will want to because they are the cheapest on the comparison website or booking.com or whatever. AGAIN - DO NOT USE THEM. They are absolute robbers. We paid them £80 for car hire for 2 weeks via booking.com. When we got to Cancun Airport, they drove us out to their lair on the outskirts of the airport and wanted £350 more for mandatory "Third Party Liability" insurance (TPL) that is required by the Mexican law and has to be bought through a mexican company, apparently you can't buy it elsewhere, so if it's not included as part of the booking then you will be forced to buy it on the spot at joke prices. We could not take the car without it. Instead of purchasing this from Mex, we made them drive us back to the terminal, where we rented a car for the 2 weeks from the Sixt desk for £235 including the mandatory insurance. I.e. it was cheaper to just tell Mex to feck off, let them keep the £80 and start again with a new company. Booked in advance I'm sure we could have done better than £235 with a company that includes the mandatory insurance. MAKE SURE YOUR MEXICAN CAR BOOKING EXPLICITLY INCLUDES TPL (Third Party Liability) insurance.

What a disaster! Mex is a scam!! They request a deposit at booking. On the day of arrival to rent, they ask for proof of insurance. Then AFTER providing it, they tell you they "don't work with your insurance company." They say you have to take their coverage instead of your own perfectly good insurance coverage and carrier. Mex must be shut down for fraud. I implore you to do the right thing and please spread the message because this "MEX" disaster needs to be MEXTERMINATED.

Very disappointing experience with Mex Rent a Car.

Personally, after this experience, I do not recommend renting with this company.

I had a reservation which, according to customer service, was under my name and could not be modified or canceled by another person. Despite multiple calls, emails, and confirmations with customer service, changes were still made to the reservation without clear communication or proper verification.

This situation caused me to lose transportation contracts, lose money, and most importantly lose complete confidence in the company’s reservation management and customer protection process. I also had to deal with an extremely stressful situation on-site involving conflicts between multiple individuals while simply trying to resolve the matter professionally.

The most frustrating part of all this was receiving completely different information depending on who I spoke with. Customer service would confirm one thing, while the branch handled the situation differently.

I strongly recommend that the company improve:

* reservation security and verification procedures
* communication between branches and customer service
* conflict management with customers
* professionalism when dealing with disputed situations

I also strongly advise future customers to confirm everything in writing, keep all emails, and be cautious before relying on an important reservation with this company.

I sincerely hope this review helps improve the service and prevents other customers from going through a similar experience.

Expérience très décevante avec Mex Rent a Car.

Personnellement, après cette expérience, je ne recommande pas de louer avec cette compagnie.

J’avais une réservation qui, selon le service à la clientèle, était à mon nom et ne pouvait pas être modifiée ou annulée par une autre personne. Malgré plusieurs appels, courriels et confirmations avec le service à la clientèle, des changements ont quand même été faits au dossier sans communication claire ni vérification adéquate.

Cette situation m’a fait perdre des contrats de transport, perdre de l’argent et surtout perdre totalement confiance envers la gestion des réservations et la protection des clients. J’ai également dû gérer une situation extrêmement stressante sur place impliquant des conflits entre plusieurs personnes, alors que j’essayais simplement de régler le problème de façon professionnelle.

Le plus frustrant dans tout cela est d’avoir reçu des informations différentes selon les personnes à qui je parlais. Le service à la clientèle confirmait une chose, tandis que la succursale gérait la situation autrement.

Je recommande fortement à l’entreprise d’améliorer :

* la sécurité et la vérification des réservations
* la communication entre les succursales et le service à la clientèle
* la gestion des conflits avec les clients
* le professionnalisme lors de situations litigieuses

Je conseille fortement aux futurs clients de tout confirmer par écrit, de conserver chaque courriel et de rester prudents avant de compter sur une réservation importante avec cette compagnie.

J’espère sincèrement que cet avis servira à améliorer le service et évitera à d’autres clients de vivre une situation semblable

After booking a car on line with all the extra insurance I was forced to pay more than double at the desk on pickup. I had no choice to do so as I needed the car to get to my next destination with no other cars available for rent. After over a month of going back and forth of sending documents, photos, movies I got no where.

Predatory damage fees. The upfront rental cost was very cheap (under $200 for a 13-day rental), but it seems they use minor damage to make their actual profit. When we returned the vehicle, they pointed out 4-6 minor surface scratches on the front and charged us $2,500. This is completely disproportionate to the actual cost of repairing minor cosmetic marks. For anyone else caught in this 'damage trap,' please be aware that you can report them to the KZP (Commission for Consumer Protection) in Bulgaria. Companies like this rely on tourists not knowing their rights or the local authorities. Luckily, we paid with a credit card that offers comprehensive auto coverage, and they handled the ridiculous bill, but I am still flagging this behavior to the regulators. Beware: this location operates on a damage-trap model. Avoid them unless you have top-tier third-party insurance!
