Advice from a Newbee.
I recently made several purchases from Flow Hive. This included the Flow Hive 2 and later several purchases to buy other items including a Flow Hive Lifter. My first advice to newbees is to do your homework first. Bees are not a set and forget even with the ease of a Flow Hive.
I bought two good books which I read from back to front and then watched you tube videos to get different perspectives from experts down to back yard bee keepers. I looked at both the Flow Hive and then the standard Langstroth hives and found the choice between them very easy. I would encourage you to check out the Flow Hive website and their multitude of tutorials. The Flow Hive won hands down, especially as I'm a newbee, a backyard novice and will most likely have no more than two hives at a time.
My second piece of advice would be to plan where you will place your hive. Again, watch Cedar and he will give you all the advice. I would suggest placing it somewhere where you can sit and watch them. They are so amazing and the aroma of the hive is fantastic. Also, start thinking about when you will purchase the hive and then start to think about the purchase of or how you will get your bees. I purchased a NUC from a local supplier who was reputable and was a great ongoing source of information and help.
I would suggest that you purchase your hive as winter is finishing, which will give you time to construct your hive, paint it and have it ready and plan to purchase your bees early so that they are ready to be collected in the spring when everything comes alive.
Next I would advise that you save on postage and buy what you think you will need. If you can, I would strongly suggest that you purchase the lifter at the same time. Frames can get very heavy when full of honey. So a super of seven or six full frames weighs a lot and the super lifter makes it so easy and you are less likely to squash your bees as you gently lower the super.
Next, take your time putting it together. If you get stuck, then head to the website and Cedar shows you in step by step videos on how to put your hive together. Maybe during this time, if you haven't already done so, plant some bee friendly trees, shrubs and flowering plants and think about a nice water dish for them. Lastly, take advantage of the tutorials and presenters at Beekeeper.org. The first month is free and there is heaps of information. I became interested in beekeeping and I set out to see if it was for me. As I learned more and more, I was able to see the difference in what was out there. The flow hive was my choice by far. It’s been a wonderful journey and I’m truly thankful for the training as I have my certification of basics.

The second flow hive is already filling up and I was able to get 12 jars of honey from one of the frames in my original flow. It’s delicious and the bees didn’t even notice! The neighbors were very impressed with the system too.

I just started bee keeping last year, but all my bees died out before the end of the year. Come this year I decided to try to get more into it and got a second hive and increased both hives to two deep brood boxes. With these increases I realized I either needed a table to stack on or boxes or a good ground cover during an inspection or I needed to get the Super lifter. With having two hives I decided to go with the Super Lifter. Though it is expensive I am a huge fan of it. It makes doing inspections so much easier. I got the deluxe kit and it really does package things up nicely and conveniently. The lifter makes for a great way to separate the super off a brood box and even a brood and a super off a brood box with the added bonus you do not have to worry about where to set them while you work.
The only thing you have to be incredibly careful of is if you use the latches. The Super lift makes it so easy to open the hive that if you have forgotten to undo the latches you can break the wood brood box the latches are attached to. I did this the first time using it. A few extra screws and glue to repair it and I am back in business, but sit is something to be careful of.

I couldn’t be happier with my decision to go with the Flow Hive 2+ for my first beekeeping setup. The craftsmanship is outstanding, setup was straightforward, and the thoughtful design features—like the screened bottom board, ant moats, and viewing windows—really make a difference for both the bees and the beekeeper. The bees took to it immediately and seem incredibly content. I’ve already seen comb being built and honey flowing in!

Everything about this hive shows how much care and innovation went into its design. It’s functional, beautiful, and beginner-friendly without sacrificing quality. If I decide to set up a second hive in the future, I’ll absolutely be buying another Flow Hive 2+. Highly recommended!

Incredible Design for Homes with less acreage
We absolutely love our Flow Hive. We live in a suburban neighborhood with lots of neighbors and you’d never know we had pet bees. The design makes it effortless and our bees are loving it. We can’t wait for our first harvest

Spent over £1000 on the Flow Hive and accessories.

All items purchased were showing as "In Stock" on their website at the time of purchase. After taking full payment from me I was then told that part of my order, the accessory caddy @ £189, which includes essential beekeeping equipment would be delivered late.

6 weeks on and no accessory kit has arrived yet. Meaning I could not access my bee hive to physically check the condition of my bees given the missing J tool.

Disgracefully I was told by their customer service representative, Biralee, to use a "Butter Knife or Paint Scraper" (instead of the specialist flow hive J tool) to access the hive and inspect the bee frames. For context, the J tool I so desperately needed is included as part of the £189 accessory caddy or is for sale on their website for just £10 (I spent £1,072.05).

Instead of sending me a J tool as a gratuity for the poor service they told me to completely cancel the caddy order and then go back to there website to purchase a J tool separately!! Thank god I have a butter knife otherwise +10000 Bees would be doomed.

Love the idea of the Flow Hive system and the products I have received seem pretty good quality. I will have to await to see if the flow system actually works as time passes. But unfortunately the overall experience has been tarnished with poor customer service for the sake of a tenner (and probably £1 to £2 cost to them). Now I'm wasting more of my time writing a review!

PS: ensure if you are buying one that you have a good 4 hours available to assemble. Then another few hours to paint it!

The Flow Super Lifter is just that, A Super Lifting game changer for those of us struggling to lift heavy brood boxes and honey supers. We are younger and older, and hefting the heavy boxes and setting them aside only to heft them back into place has been the hardest part of bee keeping. Now with the Flow Super Lifter, we can do weekly inspections during this swarm season without our boxes being lifted with our hands. This Lifter does it for us fast and simply. Boxes stay within inches of the hive. We can inspect fast and simple. This is a pleasant addition and the best money spent on our hobby to date. Thank you

I purchased two flowhives. It was not until I saw this amazing invention that I believed I could be a beekeeper. I can also manage the weight of the Superflow with the help of the flowhive lifter and do regular inspections with ease.

Flow Hive is always quick to answer any questions. Their products are extremely well made and designed.

I've been devoted to FlowHives and FlowHive equipment for over six years now! No Regrets. There attention to detail and superior wood choices makes it an easy and great choice. Laser cutting, Cedar and Araucaria Woods, and continued inventions make them my favorites. All my hives look like fine peices of furniture.

I bought a flow hive super and put it on my hive In the spring of 2024. I have a 8 frame hive of bees. In 2024 I harvested 9.5 gallons of honey from that hive. The flow hive is super easy to use and to harvest from. No issues at all. I highly recommend this setup. The price is high, however, by the time you buy all the traditional equipment, it pretty much evens out, and it’s the easiest way to harvest with NO MESS!

Haven't been able to try it yet. Needed some replacement parts not listed on the site (my own fault) and customer service took care of me. I recommend this company

I’ve recently added my honey super as the brood box has nearly been filled with comb. The Flow classic has been very enjoyable and the kids love to watch the bees work through the observation windows.

So far, my experience has been very positive. In getting the product, putting it together, and having to troubleshoot some broken items. Communication is a key factor in good customer service and communication throughout my experience has been great. New beekeeper and am so excited to learn so much throughout this new adventure. I have a 3 yo son and am excited to involve him in the process, safely of course.
