It was my first time trying Hiya car a few days ago as I was in need of an urgent car, and my account got blocked the next day. I spoke with an owner who turned out to be a scammer, trying to get me to pay outside the app. When I contacted customer service, they blamed me and refused to refund the £9, which I now have to resolve with my bank.
I told them they make money from the £9 and then leave you to deal with problems on your own. Unfortunately, I didn’t know this beforehand and ended up wasting my time. The sellers are mostly inactive, and their listings are still up, which is misleading and confusing. If you’re in urgent need of a car, good luck finding an active owner on the app.
The most shocking thing was when I made a booking, they purposely withheld it, and I couldn't even see it in my "booking" section. When I asked about it, they told me the owner didn’t accept it and promised to take care of it for me, but it still wasn’t visible. I also made 4 bookings, all of which went to waste. This leads me to believe they intentionally withheld them or did something shady. They even denied my request to speak with a manager. This is a scam and fraud website, and I’ll be reporting it to multiple agencies and authorized organizations. BEWARE—DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE REVIEWS.

Always enjoy using my trusty Hiya Car Peugeot around the corner from where I live. Love the ease of booking through the app.
I hired my first car this month and it was a great experience. A responsive owner and a quick and easy collection and drop off process. I would try again but the main issue I suppose is finding other people to share the journey and cost with. Otherwise it may be costly for one person.
I have used Hiyacar for 5 years, but have discontinued recently based on recent bad experiences. The concept is great and it's nice for there to be a challenger to Zipcar, and our local council has partnered with them to improve availability of cars. However the app is very glitchy, especially with Android. In the past 12 months I've had only one hassle free hire out of four - on one occasion the car simply couldn't connect at all and we were re-directed to another a KM away (leading to us being late for an event) and most recently I had one that lost connection mid-hire, which resulted in my being issued a £60 parking fine as I couldn't restart the car. During that hire I had to communicate on three different occasions with the (always helpful) live chat staff. Hiyacar then charged me £40 admin fee on top of the fine, despite their records showing it was a challenging hire. They have since waived the admin fee but left me with a parking ticket, which was entirely Hiyacars fault. Ultimately the Zipcar app is more durable and forgiving, and I think Hiyacar need to go back to the digital drawing board and work on improving their customer service.
During the verification process, after we declare conviction/penalty, the nect page says you are eligible and allows us to proceed with payment. However, as soon as the payment is done and you go back to your account/profile, it comes up as not eligible. Customer service says, they take verification very seriously. I am sure they do and must do. However within few minutes I am sure my details have not been verified which the customer service pointed out too. However, with the same details, you are eligible to pay but not eligible to hire because you cannot be insured. If that's the case, the page following the declaration, shouldn't say one is eligible and allowed to proceed. When I asked for refund, I was asked to produce screen shot of the page. People are allowed to proceed on false pretense. Felt like scam.
I had a great experience with HIYA, great price excellent car owner.
I have been using Hiyacar for years. I only use Club cars recently so that I can use my annual car excess cover for them. Each car is slightly different and left in a different state. The concept us great and I like tge fkexibility it allows for car pick up and return. The customer service is kind and usually answers you fast. I found that in case of emergency though you are a bit left alone. Read the FAQ before you set off! Unfortunately they are not easily linked to the booking in the app.
In this specific occasion the car was extremely dirty (and we had to clean the window as it was unsafe). The customer service offered a change of car or a credit.
Excellent as always! No need to own a car in London when there's an easy and sustainable option to use one when you need it. Booking and accessing a car through the app is seamless + there's always a car conveniently nearby!
Super convenient picking up a rental car from just down the road. It's much cheaper less hassle than owning my own car given that we only need a car a few times a year.
