I used Gordon Brown Law for my house move. I wasn’t sure which law firm to go with as there were so many in my area, so I went with the company my estate agent recommended.
Honestly wish I never did. I found responses were limited and ended up having to go through my estate agent and ask them to chase on my behalf as there was a period when my emails were getting ignored.
Very frustrating when buying a house and paying so much money for a service.
The one positive was that the staff on reception were lovely and very helpful every time I spoke to them.
Sadly, I won’t be using Gordon Brown law again

From start to finish it was as a smooth transaction as you could ask for. The customer service was great,with so much of the work done by computer and ,email etc I was very unsure on how to complete it ,but this was no problem to the staff. They made everything easy for myself to complete all the necessary documentation as required. All questions and answers communication that I sent was replied to very quickly.
You were treated with the greatest respect and curtesy at all times whether on the phone or visiting the office .

Katherine was an excellent solicitor throughout our purchase of a flat. From start to finish, she was responsive, professional, and consistently kind in her communication.

Although the purchase progressed quite quickly, completion was achieved in around three months, which was impressive. At times when the process felt slow or unclear (as conveyancing often does), Katherine was always happy to provide clear updates and reassurance, which we really appreciated.

She was very prompt in replying to emails, and on the occasions when we called for updates or to ask for further information, everyone who answered the phone was genuinely helpful and well-informed. That level of service made a stressful process feel far more manageable.

As a first time buyer, Louis and team at Gordon Brown made the process easy and relatively pain free!

My only criticism (& it is minor) is that it would've been nice to have a piece in the "welcome pack" which states what proof of deposit you need, so that when the times comes near the end of the process, you have it all ready and waiting and not have such a rush trying to find all the evidence of the deposit origins.

Would definitely recommend Gordon Brown Law, and would happily use again if I ever need to.

An absolutely terrible service from Gordon Brown Law. Our conveyancer, Lee P was awful from the beginning. He did not want to communicate, reply to messages without being chased numerous times, contact anyone in order to expedite the completion and basically do any work for us. He even at one point said that he was too busy to do anything to move our purchase forward, as he was working on people who were further along…..
He dragged everything out for so long, we ended up homeless for 3 weeks, with 3 children and I was undergoing radiotherapy. We pulled out of our purchase (not Lee’s fault), but if he had done his job properly and actually chased things up, we would have been able to stay in our rental.
I cannot begin to hope that no one else uses this company. They were recommended by L&C and I think they should reconsider offering them as an option.

Purchased a house in June and was advised by a previous solicitor that the house was actually leasehold due to being shared ownership. They were unable to deal as they had nobody available trained so was passed over to Gordon Brown.

I was assigned to Emily who took over my purchase, Emily was very helpful and very patient with me as it was quite a long process (through no fault of Emily) and was causing me quite a bit of anxiety but she was very understanding of my situation.

All in all a very good experience and I am now finally in my new home.

Gordon Brown Law have requested that I temporarily remove my review while they investigate the complaints I have raised with their firm.

Pending the outcome of their internal investigation, and subject to whether I consider their findings to be satisfactory, this post will be updated accordingly.

For clarity, I am the client of Gordon Brown Law. I provided the firm with authority permitting my parent to act on my behalf. Any confusion appears to have arisen due to staff annual leave and internal records not being updated.

A review of their own correspondence will confirm that the authority was in place, and that any claim suggesting otherwise is incorrect.

Our offer on the property was accepted on 8 August. As of Thursday afternoon, 18 December, more than four months later, we are still unsure whether completion will take place tomorrow, on the eve of the firm’s Christmas shutdown.

Throughout the process, timelines have repeatedly shifted. We have been given repeated indications that completion was imminent, only for new issues to arise at the last possible moment. Most recently, the mining report was only sent to the lender on Monday, yet we were still told that completion could take place on Friday, despite it being clear that lender approval within this timeframe carried significant risk.

It is now Thursday afternoon, and we remain without clarity. We have been told the matter is currently with a valuer, who cannot be contacted or rushed, meaning there is no way to confirm progress or timescales. Despite this, we have continued to be given hope of completion, which has repeatedly been raised and then left unresolved, offering little to no relief.

Every time we have contacted the firm for answers, our solicitor has been unavailable. We have instead been directed to the support team, whose communication has often felt condescending and dismissive, leaving us feeling unfairly judged for being stressed about circumstances that directly affect our lives.

The emotional toll of this has been overwhelming. The constant cycle of hope followed by uncertainty has left us mentally and physically exhausted. We are relocating and have new jobs starting in January, and due to the ongoing delays, we are now facing the very real possibility that one of us could be left without accommodation, effectively at risk of homelessness.

This situation reflects a wider pattern of poor communication, unrealistic timelines, and a lack of empathy. The prolonged uncertainty has had a profound impact on our mental health, to the extent that friends and colleagues have advised us to seek mental health support due to how severely this process has affected us.

At this stage, this is no longer simply about delay — it is about the failure to manage expectations responsibly, communicate honestly, and recognise the serious real-life consequences for clients
