We've been with Petplan since our dog was a puppy. We have, unfortunately, needed to claim multiple times through the years. From trauma, to investigative testing for bowel issues ongoing for years, now sorted, thankfully, and recent othropeadic surgery and complimentary treatments. Not once has a claim been quibbled. You never want to need insurance but Petplan have taken the financial stress out of otherwise stressful events. Our spaniel is a much loved pet, she's 8 years old now and had had access to the best specialists and treatments available. We pay around £100 a month. It may seem a lot but she gets monthly librella injections as well! Can't fault the service we've received. I recommend them to all pet owners.

Pet Plan are easy to contact by telephone. Their call centre staff are most helpful. Claims form easy to fill out. Settlement was completed quickly.
The whole process was without hassle. The best thing about Pet Plan is that we are able to give Mia our dog the best treatment possible.

I decided to continue the insurance that came with my dog from a well known rescue centre. Petplan put so many exclusions on the policy, that it was pointless having the insurance.
Petplan received a vet report saying no health problems with a dog and then exclude every part of the dog practically, and want to charge £700. I don't think so... I have cancelled the policy as it's not worth the paper its written on.
It is very evident they do not want to insure animals that come from rescue centres even though they have been vet checked! I cannot think of any other reason for their actions.
Also what is more worrying is the deception l experienced. I was sent a policy by email which had no exclusions, was informed that the underwriter would email me if there were exclusions. I got no email from the underwriter. I went online to set up my Petplan login 6 days later only to find they had added about 8 exclusions which covered practically every system of the dog. How sneaky is that Petplan. You are misleading your customers, adding things to their policy without informing them.

Absolutely fantastic company, honestly couldn’t say enough good things about them, I wish I wasn’t leaving this review as it means my much loved dogs was unwell but sadly these things happen, petplan was there for me, the bill was no small amount either but it was paid in full without any hassle at all! They are fantastic and I wouldn’t be without it now.

Cannot praise this company enough. After taking out insurance for my new kitten a few years back he became very ill and required a lot of specialist treatment and emergency vet trips every single claim was paid with no fuss, staff have always answered my questions when I've called. Unfortunately my boy passed away late last year but even then they sorted everything when I informed them. Just got a ragdoll kitten and taken a new ultimate plan out so 3 top plans and I'd never be without. Thank you pet plan!!!

I have been with this company for my Pet Dogs insurance for 5 years. (he is 5 years old). I have never made a claim yet each year they have increased the amount im having to pay. I have just recieved my quote for this year (2024) and it has gone up yet again by another 20% (which would now make it that im paying more than treble the amount i was 5 years ago). I would now be paying more for my pet insurance with this company than i do for both my wifes and my car insurance combined. A huge con and waste of money . Avoid them.

My insurance premiums have risen excessively (over £200 this year alone (never claimed in 5 years) won’t budge on premiums so I informed them that I would not be renewing the policy when it was up in a few weeks time. Will be putting any savings made in our new policy into a savings account for any potential vets fees.

NO GAP ONLY, NO PRE APPROVALS GIVEN, PETCOVERS PAY DIRECT TO VET IS USELESS, CLAIMS DENIED

1. No Gap Only – Search “ASIC Stop Order Pet Insurance” & GapOnly. Petcover have confirmed they do not do Gaponly unlike most other insurance providers. Best to go with another provider because you’ll never be required to pay any upfront costs if your vet is one of Gaponly insurance partners. You can claim on the spot and only pay your excess. With Petvcover, you’ll always be required to pay upfront for the total cost.
2. No Pre Approvals Given – Petcover does not provide any pre approvals. Again, most other insurance providers do give pre approvals.
3. Pay Direct To Vet Option – This is useless. If no pre approval is given, how can anyone use this option? Are vets supposed to do the surgery with no pre approval from Petcover and just hope when the claim is submitted, they will be paid?

BOAS SURGERY DENIED DUE TO DOG PREVIOUSLY ONLY HAVING KENNEL COUGH

Pets cover started January 2019 (3 months of age).
April 2019 pet was seen by vet for kennel cough.
Petcover paid all April 2019 claims in full.
Since April 2019, pug has had no vet visits for anything in relation to coughing.
Only last month, pug started having breathing difficulties and vet has recommended BOAS.
Petcover advised they would not pay any expenses for said pet.
Their Reason - Pet showed “clinical signs” of BOAS in Apr 2019 (which was actually deemed to be kennel cough ONLY). Petcover does have a 365 waiting period on BOAS surgery. The vet did recommend at the time for the pets airways to be assessed ONLY IF the cough was did not stop. Cough immediately stopped after vet visits and no further treatment was necessary.
Just because someone shows signs of a cough, it doesn’t deem them to have “clinical signs of Lung Cancer”. It was only a cough.

From my experience, best to go with another insurance provider who is a Gaponly partner (no more upfront costs), provides pre approvals and don't deny claims because they deem your pet to have shown clinical symptoms based on an unrelated issue that happened 4 years ago!

Formal complaints with various Government bodies have been lodged.

Please avoid this company - they will find 101 reasons why they wont pay out on a claim - really despicable and cruel

Petplan a very poor company I been paying my insurance for about six years and my cat needed work on her teeth so I phone them and Petplan said all is good we will pay then I get a text NOT A PHONE CALL saying your case is closed and we will not pay due to a vet visit two years ago

We have had our dog's insurance for 5 years and it has risen an incredible 122% in that time!! Just this year they are trying to rip me off for an additional 26% price increase... it's really quite outrageous, they use lovely phrases like "Covered For Life" but simply hike the fees and with their £95 excess they are literally not even paying for the treatment we have needed.

They know other insurers won't take on pre-existing medical conditions so they can abuse their position by making completely unjustified increases in premiums. I am complaining to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and hope they will clamp down on insurers abusing their position like this.

Never again. I have been with PetPlan for years, more than 20 years with various dogs and horses. For the past ten years I've paid premiums for my greyhound and have never made a claim until recently when she had a gastrointestinal problem. I made a claim and PetPlan paid out about £700, so not a huge claim. My renewal has just come through and they want to put my premiums up from £37 a month to £53 a month. That's a 43% increase because she's had ONE claim in 10 years. They have also now excluded any treatment relating to the gastrointestinal problem she had even though it was only four months ago and they are supposed to cover each condition for 12 months. I find that pretty disgusting and it now makes the policy totally unaffordable for me. I will be cancelling my policy. I will also be looking for alternatives for the equine policies that I currently have with PetPlan. Never again will I use PetPlan.

I can only say that Petplan are excellent, the staff are friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. They also deal with your claim very speedily and notify you when everything is done.

i have been saying for over 5 years that the pet plan adverts are a con and a scam to cheat pet owners out of money i should no. i was with pet plan quite some time paid in to there scam my dog then became ill had operations at the time there advert promissed to pay out 90 plus percent of all vets bills what a lie and scam. when i contact them they promissed to pay the bill then for 4 months they messed me about saying we pay it then not finally they just cancelled the policy refused to pay the bill was huge took 3 years to pay of. the people they insure you will is Alliance insurrance the bottom line is they were only interest in getting money from people and they dont give a dam about your pet. i see they have a new tv advert on tv this time with a well known irish vet how some like him can say he cares about peoples pets yet he advertise for a company and insurers whos scams money out of pet lovers Mr Noel Fitzpatrick shame on you. you say you care but work with pet plan and Alliance who scam customers out of money and fales advertise how can some like you work with them hope they paying you good. so everyone beware of tv adverts as like others have said its a con scam they dont care about your pets they only after your money tv adverts are a con and a scam they make it sound good but theres always a catch.

With petplan pet insurance company policy i am not satisfied..thank u so much.The pet insurance company's prices are quite high, and it's a bit disappointing. It makes it tough for pet owners to afford coverage.

I took out the more expensive option of a life time cover for my dog when he was a puppy and pay 10 years into this very expensive scheme with very few claims (many years apart). Got slapped yesterday with an astronomical increase in policy fees (over £1000.00 a year, plus an increased access, plus an additional 20% of all vet fees, purely due to my dog's age! Was this not what I have been paying into the scheme for all these years - for cover when he is old? It was a more expensive "Life time" cover after all. I am sitting now with a unaffordable policy, unaffordable vet bills if my pet needs treatment and a pet that is too old to move to a different insurer. This kind of practice should be made illegal. Petplan clearly disregards older pets and is trying all kinds of increases to make it unaffordable for policyholders to claim for them. This kind of practice should be made illegal.

Great Insurance company! We bought a purebred maine coon and he came with 1 month trial pet plan insurance. Firstly wasn't sure if I need to buy it permanently but decided to go ahead and never didn't regret it. Little bit pricey but if your pet is unwell often it very helpful. We have life cover and dental which is great. ( as our kitten has juvenile gingivitis and I know he is covered for dental treatment and we do not need to worry about money). Easy communication, quick respond, quick payment. Recommend for sure.

The cost of my insurance has gone from about 500 the first year to 1200 this year. They say this is bc of the area and breed of dog I have... Seems like an easy way to just increase prices! I also noted a fraudulent charge on my credit card from them and NO ONE has followed up. Do yourself a favor and choose another company. Their customer support is very rude and unhelpful. I hope this review saves 1 person and their pet from this awful company.
