Wish I could give less stars. Paid over £800 over the last two years with pet plan for my cats policy. They have rejected my claim again, after taking two months to review it. They want to find every small loop hole they can to not pay out for your pet and do not care about you or your pets health, just their money. Just start a savings pot for your pet rather than pay into their pockets. this company is a disgrace

I had a continuous covered for life policy, following expensive surgery, my cover limit was exceeded in the early part of year 10, but I continued to pay the premiums with no benefit for the remainder of the policy year to retain the cover for life.
Our vet requires 24 hours notice for repeat prescriptions and I requested medication costing £300 the day before my policy renewal but did collect and pay for it until the actual day that my policy renewed. Clearly this was the point of sale and should have been covered by Petplan but they declined the claim.
Veterinary medicine is a controlled substance and the law is very clear that it remains under the control of the vet until I have payed. There is no dispute as to the date I purchased the items.
As experienced by many other reviewers, Petplan Customer Service is non-existent, they ignore emails and allege that the Claims Team can't be spoken to direct, only via internal communication from the agents (who indeed seldom sound UK based). They refuse to escalate complaints to a Manager, as would be possible with most companies. I have tried several times over many months to get the issue resolved without any response beyond automated emails and broken promises to return my calls, which they never do.
Petplan have been using the same marketing slogan 'We pay 97% of claims' for decades, Trading Standards should review whether that remains accurate - I doubt it!
Since they are no longer providing the service that I am paying for I am going to cancel my policy, even though my dog is too old to insure elsewhere. I'm not throwing good money after bad.
This company is trading on past glory. Historically they were very good 20+ years ago but their service has declined badly. Don't give them your undivided loyalty, I wish I hadn't. There is definitely better cover, at lower prices elsewhere, as I discovered with my new puppy.

Disgusted that my premium has gone up £22 a month. Pet plan claim that they don't put up premiums for claims utter rubbish.

If you take out insurance with pet plan, every single year your insurance will increase by £10 a month, I have been with them 4 years and originally had £7000 of cover for my dog for £52, over time it increased to eventually £92 I then had to lower my cover to £4000 as I was worried over providers wouldn’t cover pre existing conditions so I didn’t wish it change ( that’s how you get trapped with one insurer, I have only claimed once for my dog)

This year it is once again being increase back up to £62, I replicated a quote for the same animal, same age living at the same address and it came back £30 cheaper then what they are trying to now charge me, they should be looking after existing customers, not increasing their premiums by 100s each year. I raised this and they didn’t really have answers.

Never had to claim, but £890 per annum renewal for a 2 year old Labrador with no health issues is extortionate.
Can get better cover for 1/4 of this price. Which is what I'll be doing.

Pet plan are the most insurer ever they never pay out and think of any given reason / clause which means you are not able to claim despite paying probably the highest rate ever for years and years !!! so disgusting and dispaointing.

Do not choose Petplan. My dog is only 4 years old, i have no claims and my insurance per month has gone from £50 -to £63 in the course of 12 months and now i have been told it will jump to £78 per month in Jan. What an absolute rip off. I have not made any claim since taking this cover out over 4 years ago. I have no idea how they can justify these prices. I have now cancelled! Stop being so greedy Pet Plan.

Pet plan take your money for extortionate premiums and always fail to pay up. They give every reason to not pay so why waste your money when our beloved pets need help they don’t cough up. Paid into the plan for many many years what a waste of money snd what an injustice to our animals when they need help! Shame on you Pet Plan. Now cancelled my contract

5 years ago I would have given this company 5 stars wonderful cover you could rely on .Our cat was 17 I paid around £30 a month he got everything he needed no questions asked.Thats the good news now here's the bad news so to start i can get £10000 of cover per year for vets and £10000 of dental cover at one of pet plans competitors and they are a far bigger name than petplan .For nearly double the price I can get £7500 of cover at petplan .Went up around 30% last year and another 25% this year forget it I've gone elsewhere I suggest everyone else does petplan might then think twice about ripping their clients off .

I can't comment on cover as we never made a single claim. But their premium increases are pure theft. 16.5% increase in 1st year and then 28% in year 2.

They're basically praying on financially illiterate people and it didn't help at all when I enquired/ complained. I have moved on to a much more affordable option. Slightly less cover but less than a third of the cost. Hopefully they don't do the same.

I have 2 cats on one policy number. Renewal came on Saturday and their premium had risen by 20%. New cost was £725.30 per cat. So I cancelled insurance for the one who does not have an ongoing medical condition. The new policy document for one cat cost £681.41 not £725.30. It seems an extra £43.88 had been added to the cost of EACH CAT simply because there was another cat on the policy number!! I have moved the other cat to Tesco pet insurance - they are much cheaper. I have a younger cat who I will also be moving to Tesco, For him covered for life with petplan is £50 per month - at Tesco it is only £30 per month with a similar excess = 40% cheaper than petplan. I spoke to the insurance processor at my vets and she tells me she has no issue with claims to Tesco. An important lesson - shop around and do not have two pets on the same policy as you pay extra for no reason!!

Fantastic company. Insured my cat with them and shortly afterwards he got poorly. Expensive trips to the vet were made easier knowing that petplan would give me the money back in two weeks. The claims were so easy and they kept you up to date with process. Sadly my cat had cancer and was euthanized, broke our hearts. Within a few minutes pet plan messaged us to give their condolences and say don't worry about the claim, all would be settled and it was. Highly recommended this company. Website is not confusing and its not expensive 🙂

I was truly concerned about using Behavet through my pet (Elsie, 3 year old dachshund with problems with other dogs) 's insurance with Pet Plan. It all went through very quickly, despite there initially being some concern as to whether this might have been a pre-insurance problem, so not covered. We have had one consultation and Elsie is truly a new dog. This co-operation between Pet Plan and Behavet is a remarkable development in the management of reactive dogs. Thank you to Pet Plan, as I could never have found that money alone, and to Behavet, for what has developed so far, and for the 'magic' I anticipate is still to come. They do NOT pay out. Even when everything was provided by the vets. Also didn't pay for the death of my dog.

Our vets said never use them and to use petplan. So we went to petplan and they have paid out for everything.

This pet insurance is a scam and does not pay out.

YOUR WEBSITE IS RIDICULOUSLY DIFFICULT TO MAKE CHANGES OR COMMUNICATE WITH A PERSON AND YOUR PEOPLE WHEN YOU FINALLY GET TO THEM ,,, REFER YOU BACK TO THE STUPID WEBSITE 😡😡😡 we’ve got THREE cats insured and will look elsewhere if just changing policy details continues to be difficult!!! Make it easier for us over 50’s and computer illiterates PLEASE!!!

One of my beautiful Maine Coons died suddenly last week. We have all four of our cats insured with Petplan so you can imagine how much I pay every month. I filed all the paperwork to claim for him (he had a seizure followed by a heart attack - was perfectly healthy with regular vet visits). I all received was automated replies, and nothing in his file, including the cancellation of his policy. I call them today and they said they are 'assessing' the claim. Are you kidding me, he died - what is there to assess?? The man on the phone was useless, unsympathetic which to me was a devastating loss. I will be looking elsewhere now for my cats insurance.

There has been very little useful communication about my claim. It’s been over a month and even after multiple emails and a phone call , zero updates. Even when you call , the associate can’t see or locate all the requested info I sent and asked me to resend it. The associate also promised a phone call on same day with an update and failed to follow up.

My Lhasa Apso Molly is 9 years old and in that time we have never made one claim on our insurance. I have just received my renewal for next year and my premium has risen by £21 per month pushing my payment to over £100 per month. I rang to query this and the lady I spoke to was not able to explain why there was such a large increase and seemed happy for me to cancel the policy. Over the 9 years I have paid out thousands in premiums and never claimed back one penny. Very unhappy with the outcome.

Sorry we didn’t put money aside in an account. Daisy May hasn’t had much wrong with her over the past years, and now its so expensive the insurance and what we have to pay up front 20% on top. I think it’s ridiculous . We are pensioners now and its not good for the future every year it goes up a lot even though we haven't claimed. Disgracefulr. Not happy

Previous had some good experience with PetPlan. However, we have now cancelled both policies. Our vet had written in our dogs notes "Settled ok but attacked owner last week, no children in house so [is] wishing to persevere, discussed sending back to breeder and also discussed behavioural training

Our vet isn't a behaviourist or specialist dog trainer but for some reason decided to note in his official record that his 'behaviour' was "probably fear related". Despite explaining to petplan that he never attacked us (at 14 weeks old, not 12), they stated that because his records "indicate that [he] had fear-related issues" that they would not cover his behaviour training.

This is despite the fact that he never attacked us, was 14 weeks old (not 12) and he had plenty of human interaction leading up to this vet appointment. A large part of me thinks this is the vets fault for making assumptions and incorrect notes, but sadly Petplan are not interested in exploring the claim further.
The 'behaviour' that the vet refers to here is what I would consider normal puppy behaviour (mouthing, learning boundaries etc.)
