After being a loyal customer ernest doe for many years I have got fed up with the staffs very miserable attitude, maybe they've been there too long and they're too old, especially in service and sales not very nice to do business with miserable people so have moved all my servicing and business to rival where they're very happy to see you and help you if you've been receiving miserable sevice with the staff at ernest doe you should move too It makes you feel so much better dealing with happy people.

Mower service with attentive follow up

Ernest Doe Framlingham picked-up, serviced and repaired, and dropped off my sit-on mower in November. Following the service there remained a fault with a spring and the carburettor but Robin, the service manager, rapidly responded and sent a technician to fix the issue on site that day. The mower is now running sweetly and the negotiated bill satisfactory.

Excellent Service

The purchase of a used triple mower and prompt, efficient delivery service made it a pleasure to deal with Ernest Doe....thanks to Matt Wise (Groundcare sales manager and Alfie (delivery driver).

Very poor service

I took a chainsaw in to have a fault diagnosed and to get an estimate for repair. They went ahead and did over £100 of work without consulting me. This work didn't fix the problem and I had to fight hard to get a partial refund.

I took my Honder strimmer in to does

I took my Honder strimmer and asked them to fix the throttle as 2 spring got lost and also to change the spark plug. I got it back 3 weeks later at a cost of £83, how on earth it come to that much just supplying 2 very very small spring and a spark plug i will never no. So when i got it home and I started it oil was coming out everywhere and it was leaking Petral, so I took it back, a few days later I received a call from them saying that there was no oil of Petral leaks but the carburetor needed changing so like a fool i agreed, now looking back for the life of me I will never know why I said yes do it then. ,so I took it to them. I've had the Honder easy start strimmer for 3 year and with a little bit of choke it always started first time ever time even though 2 springs were missing on the trigger inside so it would only do half the revs but still usable so when I got it back after the 2 spring had been fitted it fully reved up like it should.
Anyway I got a call about a week later saying it would cost from £170 or more. The lady said do you want to think about it? I'd only just spent £83 on it, yes I said and they said they would call me back on the Monday to see what i wanted to do, this being a Friday. I never received a call and I'd forgot about it till a week or so later, so I decided to call and asked them to go ahead with the repair. Two or three weeks later I got a call saying it was ready to pick up. I paid the wopping £212.52p that they now said it would cost i bought it home and when I used it that same day and put the choke on it felt lose so I just pulled the string and it did start first time but when I then put the choke on it did absolutely nothing whatsoever bearing in mind I new how it worked having had it for 3 years. So I called saying there is now no choke working so I was asked to take it back so I did and then I left, 5 minutes later I received a call from them asking to go back and speak to the guy who had done the work on it, I was taken round the back to the workshop, and the guy who work on it had pulled the casing of exposing the choke and preceded to say that the choke only worked because the carburetor was partly blocked with some muck ln the carburetor . Noooo I said no way the choke as always worked and I picked the strimmer up pulled the string and it started i then began to pushed the choke up and down without it coughing like it should once it's started up, the choke leaver may just as well not be there . By now I was getting a bit irate with him telling me this and that and taking no blaim whatsoever, the manager then come out and i explained that there is no choke working and that it has always worked and was working fine till I bought it in to have the new carburetor fitted then the guy who fitted the carburetor says OK but the only way to get the choke working is to changed the mount where the carburetor sits, and that's going to cost you with me replying ive just spent £295 you fit that for no charge then as the choke was working and always had been till I bought it here no he said I've told you it was working because the carburetor was partly blocked. Garrrrr! I said come the winter when it's been sitting in the shed for a few weeks/months it won't start without the choke i know this strimmer like the back of my hand. The manager then said I'll tell you what if it won't start in the winter bring it back and we will sort something out I give you my word. So off I go taking the strimmer with me and storing it in my garage. About three weeks later i needed to do some strimming i pulled the string time after time after time it just wouldn't start and not once since I've had it had it not started on the first pull with the choke on never ever. I called them and the Manager happend to answer the phone and he remembered and said bring it back and see what we can do or I will give you a refund, now knowing that a mount wasn't going to be changed as i had mentioned this at the time of calling can you confirm to me that you will change the mount at no charge We can't do that but lets see what els we can do i said it won't work and after all the agrow id had with them i called back and said im not bringing it back i will have the refund. I had said to the manager beforehand a refund won't fix the strimmer and the refund won't buy me another strimmer for £212. and that it cost £450 to replace it. I can only give you a refund he repeated. Absolutely diabolical service you take a working strimming in and they brake it i will never use them again ever and I'd advise anyone else not to use them. Ive been bitting my toung and waiting to write this since waiting for a refund for the last two weeks and I got the refund today the 10th 2025 of September. I have now bought another Honder easy start, easy start strimmer its in the name for £450 . I'm now going to the country court tomorrow to get the paperwork and procced with claim , it's the principle of it all im no mug no doubt they will reply to this with some kind of excuse

Poor service

A week ago I bought a Bulldog 6lb splitting axe from the Maldon branch. Having used it just twice since to split mainly ash logs the rubber collar below the axe head has split. On returning it to the store for a replacement or refund the first assistant accepted it was faulty and went to look for a replacement. Obviously someone intervened and the manager then came to see me and said they would not replace or refund because the split was caused by “abuse”. He recommended that I rap tape round the collar to repair the split !!! … on a week old axe!
Now I’m no gorilla, just a 5’9”, 75 year old and I “abused” a 6lb splitting axe?? What sort of rubbish is that?
Doe’s have always been my store of choice for lots of DIY equipment but will certainly NOT be in future. I will avoid them and recommend to all I know to do the same.

We’re very sorry to hear of your disappointment and appreciate the opportunity to respond. As you’ve mentioned, both our Store Manager at our Maldon branch and our Retail General Manager, assessed the Bulldog splitting axe.

Upon inspection, it was clear that the damage occurred to the shaft of the axe, just below the head. This pattern is consistent with repeated mis-strikes, where the shaft absorbs the impact instead of the head. Such damage is unfortunately classed as misuse and therefore not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.

We take all feedback seriously and always aim to provide fair and transparent service. While we regret that this outcome is disappointing, we hope our explanation helps to clarify why the warranty cannot apply in this instance. It is never our intention to leave a customer dissatisfied, and we hope this explanation at least clarifies the reasoning behind our decision.

Shocking customer service from the…

Shocking customer service from the Wymondham branch management, despite heroic efforts from the staff. I have 4 Husqvarna mowers and 2 of them just dont work and the management just string me along. I have resported to TrustPilot because they ar enot acting otherwise - DO NOT USE THEM

The knowledge and care given to my enquiry, was fantastic, all I needed was a new strimmerhead, didn't expect it to be a stock item but it was. I didn't catch the guys name but he was really helpful. Had I not managed to get a replacement I would have been in a bit of a situation

I have been a loyal customer of Ernest doe for some years however never again! After purchasing tractor from them with under deck mower, it lasted 1 and a half mower seasons before catastrophic failure of the deck. It then transpired that parts for the deck are not available, attempts to repair the parts only met with lethargy on the part of all concerned.
The whole sorry tale ending in total denial of any knowledge of the parts, and having to rant at the lazy salesman to get my broken parts back. Once they have your money nobody cares. Buy a Kubota not a New Holland.

Thank you for your review. We are disappointed to hear of your experience and take all feedback seriously. Following your comments, our branch manager has fully investigated your complaint and we would like to share our findings:

1. You purchased a New Holland tractor with a CNHi approved Lynx Engineering mowing deck and successfully used it for two mowing seasons. However, during the end of the second season, the gearbox suffered a catastrophic failure and then was operated further, which unfortunately exacerbated the damage.

2. Upon receiving the damaged parts, we attempted to source replacements. Unfortunately, we discovered that the original parts supplier had gone into liquidation. We escalated the matter to the parts manufacturer, only to find that they too had entered receivership, making replacement parts unobtainable through conventional channels.

3. As a solution, we offered to involve a specialist engineer to assess and machine replacement components from the existing damaged parts. We were clear in advising this would not last the lifetime of the unit, but a practical solution potentially extending usability for another two seasons. You agreed to proceed, fully informed that the process could take some time.

4. More recently, you decided not to go ahead with the engineering solution and instead requested the return of your parts, with a view to exploring a trade-in for a new unit. We retrieved your parts from the engineer for your collection.

5. Regrettably, when you came to collect the parts, you arrived in a state of considerable distress. The manner in which you conducted yourself, including driving through our premises at high speed, created concern for the safety of our staff and other customers.

We are especially disappointed that at no stage did you request to speak with our branch manager, who was not in on the day of your visit but has since reviewed the situation and would have been more than willing to assist.

We sincerely hope you will consider reaching out to him directly so we can discuss this matter further and, if possible, find a more positive path forward. We value all our customers and remain committed to providing the highest level of service and support.

I took it to Earnst Doe and they sorted it out for me. They explained what had been wrong, what they had done to fix it and how to try and keep it running at its best in the future. And it didn't break the bank

Tried here due to being a well known brand name and they certainly delivered, not just a great mower, but nice people. Happy to listen and good after sale, they service too, not needed yet but am confident they will be as helpful when the time comes. Thank you very much to the time for being professional but genuine. Very quick and efficient turn around of online order

I thought I write this as I was really happy with my purchase from Ernest Doe & Sons.
I found some waterproof boots on offer on their website and as I had never bought there before, looked at the reviews on Trustpilot - leaving me a little worried. But the sales offer was very good, so I ordered the boots in the end.
Confirmation of purchase and processing arrived by email on the very same day and my shoes arrived perfectly packaged the next day! Absolutely no issues at all and a very positive shopping experience.

So pleased now to have my own Stihl chain sharpening set after bad service from this branch.Wife went to collect chainsaw after supposed sharpening and charged her double what I was quoted.Hardly sharpened at all.Feel fleeced especially as I had purchased saw and accessories from them at an earlier date.No more custom from us!

Ernest Doe Wymondham should be avoided…

Ernest Doe Wymondham should be avoided at all costs. We took our Strimmer in to be fixed, it took 1 1/2 weeks for a call to say that they could fix it which was great. 3 weeks later, 5 failed phone calls we got through to be told the fix was with someone who had gone back to college hence the delay. We then had a call to say actually they couldn't fix it. We then got charged for the inspection despite wasting 3 weeks of our time. This is on top of the fact they "fixed" our John Deere which actually wasn't and we had to get someone else out to sort. The service now is a joke!!!

The reply below from Ernest Doe is untrue, we didn't get contacted after the inspection.

We are saddened to hear about your recent experience with us. We strive to provide the highest levels of customer service and, on receipt of your review, have carried out our own internal investigation. Our findings are as follows:
You brought in your Tanaka brushcutter because it was not starting. Our service advisor explained that there would be a £37.50 inspection fee, which you agreed to proceed with. After the inspection, we suggested a sonic clean, explaining that it might not be successful. You agreed to proceed with this as well.
Unfortunately, the clean did not resolve the issue, and a new carburettor was identified as the next course of action. We contacted you to gain agreement to proceed with this part replacement. However, the incorrect part was sent to us, and during the re-ordering process, we discovered that the carburettor was obsolete. Despite trying every available source, we were unable to obtain the part and promptly informed you of this.
We understand that at this stage you were not happy and, as a gesture of goodwill, we discounted the inspection fee to £24.00 for all the work carried out. While many aspects of your experience were beyond our control, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and hope that you will consider using Ernest Doe again in the future.
