I am very disappointed with the service I received from Ede & Ravenscroft regarding the purchase of an Aberystwyth University graduation hood.
Before my graduation, I already knew that I wanted to purchase my hood rather than rent it. I regularly perform as part of a cathedral choir, where the wearing of academic hoods is encouraged, so this was not intended to be a one-off item for me.
However, before graduation, the hood was not available to purchase. I contacted support and was told that it would be available soon. I waited as long as I reasonably could, right up until the deadline, but eventually had no option but to rent the full set instead.
After graduation, I continued to wait for the hood to become available to purchase. Over the following ten months, I contacted Ede & Ravenscroft several times and repeatedly received essentially the same response: that it would be available soon. It never was.
In the end, I had to concede and purchase a hood from a private bespoke seller. The quality of that hood is, incidentally, better than the one I wore at graduation, but the wider issue is that I should not have had to look elsewhere in the first place.
This is especially frustrating given that hoods for other universities, such as Durham, Cambridge and Oxford, appear to be readily available. It gives the impression that students and graduates from less prominent institutions receive a lower standard of service, despite Ede & Ravenscroft occupying such a dominant position in the graduation market.
The most frustrating part is that I actively wanted to give Ede & Ravenscroft my money. I wanted to buy the hood through the official supplier. Yet they simply did not provide a way for me to do so, either before graduation or for many months afterwards.
Overall, this has been a poor and disappointing experience. For a company so closely associated with graduations, I would expect far better availability, clearer communication, and more equal treatment across universities.

I have hired 3 graduation gowns in the past, this is my first time using Ede & Ravenscroft. Not only was the hire significantly cheaper than other organisations but the quality was better. What really stands out though is how prepared staff were, getting gowned up, I pleasantly found they had come prepared with hair grips for the mirror board and the staff were as excited as the graduates! They also attended the ceremony to ensure all academic dress was perfect before crossing the stage. I wish every university used these as their academic dress hire!

The service I received when obtaining my gown etc for my graduation was excellent. The staff were concerned to ensure everything was correct and fitted well. The return of the hired outfit was also smooth.
My only beef is that it is all a bit of a stitch-up between the University and the company, so the company is essentially a monopoly supplier to graduates at my institution, with therefore no price competition and you have to pay what they demand. I have not however let this context affect my grading of the service received.

What a splendid shop, full of high quality clothing. I was delighted to find shirts made from genuine West Indian Sea Island cotton, in different colours. Only very few shirtmakers sell this genuinely rare material(most shops sell "sea island quality" - not nearly as nice), but Ede and Ravenscroft sell the real thing. Very good for reasonably priced raincoats and jackets too

4th time of using and received the worst graduation photograph ever, daughter is bright orange, looks a lot larger than her size 8 frame which could have body dysmorphic implications, cap at a very weird angle should be flat, hair is on face photographer should have asked for it to be checked and moved, colour of hair is totally wrong , angle used is appalling for a photograph and yes we have complained to Connor at the company but feel that our complaints are not being taken seriously and are being stonewalled in our requests. Photographer did not ask for photo to be reviewed before daughter left. Very disappointed and upset by the photograph received, quality and professionalism of the photographer. My own iPhone photographs are much better than the professional ones that we paid a lot of money for. Customer service has been poor too.

Today I spoke with Mia from Ede & Ravenscroft, and I can’t thank her enough. She helped restore my digital graduation photos and was incredibly sweet, kind, and patient throughout the entire process, even with my multiple calls. I had a very poor experience with Ede & Ravenscroft when ordering my graduation photographs.
Despite providing the correct delivery address at the time of order (clearly shown in their own shipping confirmation), my parcel was dispatched to the wrong address. Royal Mail confirmed delivery with photographic proof, which showed a different house number. I checked with neighbouring properties and the parcel was not received.
I contacted the company immediately, as personal photographs had effectively been delivered to a third party. After two weeks with no response to my initial email, I was later told the issue was Royal Mail’s fault. This was incorrect. I subsequently recovered the parcel by chance and confirmed the error was due to the address being entered incorrectly by them at dispatch.
When I raised this and asked for an explanation or accountability, the responses were dismissive and failed to properly acknowledge the mistake or the inconvenience caused. I should not have had to spend two weeks tracking down my own parcel due to an internal error.
Overall, poor communication, lack of accountability, and an unacceptable handling of personal data. This experience unfortunately turned what should have been a positive and momentous occasion; receiving my PhD graduation photographs to share with family, into a stressful and negative one.
In addition, the photography experience itself felt rushed and impersonal. Posing was awkward, limited guidance was given, and there was little opportunity to take time or make adjustments. Overall, the service felt like a production line rather than a professional photography session.
Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend using a local photographer where more time, care, and attention can be given, and where communication and accountability are better handled.

I pre-booked my graduation photography for my graduation in October. Despite arriving at the time I was supposed to, I was still in queue for photography 10mins before my ceremony. The photographer commented that this was not enough time to take the photos. I asked if I could come back after the ceremony (there were still people behind us in the queue who I assumed would also come back) and was told no.
I received multiple ‘proof’ images and it was clear that the photographer rushed. Of 8-10 proofs, only one had the whole family looking at the camera. The rest had eyes closed or looking to one side. Not the photographers fault that people blink, but if they hadn’t been rushing they surely would have taken more pictures? Families around ours seemed to be having a a much better experience with the photographer checking their photos and retaking them.
Despite begrudgingly confirming which of the proofs I wanted within the timeframe and delivery being promised within 6 weeks, I still have no pictures. I have contacted customer services several times and have received no response past the automated ‘we are very busy’ response.
Really not impressed considering the price of the service.

The service is overpriced.
After paying £15 for delivery, I am still waiting for the pictures to be delivered after more than a month.
The website does not allow you to check the details of the order and would not deliver the digital copy of the pictures but on a memory stick, for which they obviously charge extra money. I regret having used their service.
