Nightmare experience. Moving is stressful enough this company made it worse. Never delivered our pods had to hire movers to take to their facility. STAY AWAY!
I moved from DC to Boston last month and used Door to Door. They dropped off 2 pods, we loaded them, and they picked them back up. They brought them to a storage facility in Massachusetts and then dropped them back off at our place a month later when we moved in to Boston.
It was easy to organize the drop offs and pick ups, even when I had to reschedule.
I have a one-bedroom apartment and 2 pods just barely fit all of our stuff, despite the fact that we were told 1 pod might work. That's the only reason I'm giving them 4 stars. Their price was lower than other companies, but other companies also had much larger storage containers.
We recently used Door-to-Door for a cross country move and had a great experience. Not one item arrived broken, and we were able to talk to people quickly every time we had a question. The only thing that would have made it outstanding would be an online platform to track your shipment or reschedule the drop off and pick up of containers, as that was the only element that was a bit complicated and required a bit of time on the phone. Nothing about our service was ever bad when calling in, but it took a bit of time and a learning curve to understand the buffers that were required on both ends. Anyway, the containers were easy to load and picked up and dropped off just as requested, so we would happily recommend to friends and family!
That's it....cool product but it's expensive and the customer experience is very inflexible.
We ordered 2 DoorToDoor containers for a move from California to Washington. The folks on the phone were helpful and polite. They were unwilling to help with one of the permits we needed, but did tell us who to call to get the permit. The containers were dropped off and were, frankly, atrocious. Exposed nails and screws all over the place. Broken, cracked wood, these things were falling apart! It wasn't square by a long shot and shorter by a few inches than was stated. We spent extra time hammering nails out so that 3 inches worth of nail didn't stab us in the eye or damage our goods. We bought some cheap fabric and lined the whole inside to protect against the busted wood and splinters. Once they picked up the containers we needed to wait a full two-weeks for delivery so, maybe go on vacation and then move in to your new home. The drivers were all experts with their forklifts and got the containers into locations that seemed impossible. We were astounded at their skill and speed.
I probably won't use DoorToDoor again, but I'd try a different wooden container company.

Also, they charge you for rescheduling fees where they don't give enough time in the first place. They don't bother not keeping their pick-up schedule. No a fair deal. Their refund processing is too slow... Too many problems with Door-to-Door!

We booked Door to Door service to move from Virginia to California. We had to work with very tight deadlines, and only had 3 weeks to move! Door to Door worked with us to determine the best way to get our boxes so they are delivered when we needed them. They called us and let us know that we can drop off the boxes ourselves, and that would shorten the delivery time. When it came to delivering the pod to CA, they worked with us to ensure that the delivery date worked for us. They called us back when an earlier date opened up. The driver arrived in the time window indicated by customer representative, and gave us a call when he was arriving. He was very pleasant and worked with us to determine the best place to park.
All of our belongings were intact, with the exception of one picture frame, which cracked. That's amazing considering the pod traveled across the country!
I HIGHLY recommend this company, it really felt like they had our back and made our stressful move so much more pleasant. And their prices are lower than most of other companies. Do not hesitate to work with them. A special shout out to Karen VanBruggen, who went above and beyond to accommodate us and answer our questions. She was very pleasant and seemed to really care about her customers. I wish that everyone in the service industry was more like her.
The sales rep was very helpful with scheduling my storage delevery - he suggest I take 2 units which in them end I used both. Had he not made that recommendation I would have had a horrific move. Thanks for the great service!
Their service is reliable, they are reasonably priced, they usually contract with quality people. I like Door to Door. They have helped me move a few times.
An easy experience. I love the fact that when I did need to get something from my pods they were placed outside for me to conveniently access them with no hassle of finding the location.
There was more damage to contents than we expected and we are very experience at packing & moving. Everything was covered appropriately with blankets and packed TIGHT. Everything else went very smoothly. The whole process was very smooth at the front end, a few minor snags at the unloading stag. Drivers on time and courteous. Christian was absolutely excellent at guiding us through this process. He was always available, patient & knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Door to Door for local and cross country moves
This is a great company with excellent and honest costumer service. Everyone involved was attentive and helpful. They explained my shipping options well and clear and gave me the best rates in the market.
I've used Door to Door multiples times in the past and typically have had great experiences. As a returning customer this time around, service seems to have gone downhill a bit. Poor communication (they used to telephone with appointment reminders, ETA's, and to let you know when they were billing you and for what). Now, most communication is done via email with no advanced notice of what is to come. Book your drop-off appointment way in advance!!! Typically in the past, I'd need only a few days notice but this time Door to Door could not accommodate my drop-off request for another 10 days. I even offered to pay an expedite fee but to no avail. To be fair, may be location specific (LA area).
We enjoyed working with Door to Door storage. I started the process a few months in advance and the sales rep kept in touch as I made my plans. He answered questions honestly and promptly. The storage units were delivered by a friendly guy who worked with us to place them to our satisfaction. And they were picked up promptly on the day we agreed upon. Now they're in storage - so can't comment on that part since we won't open the units for a couple years when we return from our travels.
Worst moving experience ever. They call themselves a moving company, but they would not deliver my boxes to my new address without a $1,000 fee, and would only only deliver on a Saturday even though I gave them three weeks notice. So, I had to rent a truck and go to their warehouse and unload all of the boxes into a rental truck and bring them to my place myself. DO NOT use Door to Door!!

My customer ID is 165627. Megan in the call center has been assisting me, but I wanted to write a note to discuss my concerns. I dealt with Michael when I made the initial call. When I called to inquiry about the your service, I gave Michael my address of xxxx New Market, MD. It is ~46 miles from your Beltsville Warehouse. With that distance, I was told I would have to pay extra for an extended delivery zone. I said no problem, and the boxes were delivered. I told him we were looking to buy a place, but did not know where. I also asked, what if we moved to Florida, and he said no problem we can deliver there.
Fast forward to now; we have bought a place and the address is xxxx Grasonville, MD which is ~44 miles from your Beltsville Warehouse. I called on June 21 and spoke with Megan. I told her we wanted to have our boxes delivered on July 12 and picked up on July 15. Even though my new house is slightly closer to your warehouse then my old house, I expected to have to pay the same extended delivery fee. Imagine my shock when I was told my new house in not in your service area. I thought this had to be a mistake. You are a door to door moving company and when I click on Maryland on the map on your website, the entire state of MD highlights. I never dreamed that a moving company like your self would not deliver 44 miles away. You will deliver my stuff to Florida, but not to my new home 44 mile away, even though you picked up from my old home 46 miles away? Know where on your website does it show limited delivery areas.
Your service agreement states Door to Door’s standard delivery area typically includes the delivery zip codes within 25 miles of the market’s warehouse facility. Additional Fees and Charges may apply for deliveries that extend beyond Door to Door’s standard delivery areas. I understand this and thats why I paid extra from my old house.
I am hoping this is all a mistake and you will confirm my delivery of my five boxes on July 12.

As requested, I’m following up with you via email to break down the options available.
The first one would be to have the delivery to your new home in zip code 21638, for a total cost of $1,000. This is a delivery/pickup that would have to take place on a Saturday, which would mean overtime hours and is one of the reasons for the higher cost on top of going to an area that is not serviced.
The second option is docking out at the warehouse. The cost for this would be $100 and can be done any time Monday-Friday between 10am-4pm or Saturdays between 8-11:30am.
So, they had no problem driving 46 miles to pick up my stuff, but would not drive 44 miles to drop it off.
