being over charged for what i ordered
My initial experience started with seeing they had charged my credit card for $322.29, when I had ordered the basic test for $129.26. They had added on additional tests. I wrote that I wanted those removed. They did that, but it took several emails to convince them I meant what I said. Then when the test swabs were sent, they included another kit, and were charging me for it, if used. I wrote I did not intend to use it, was I to send it back, and after a couple of more emails...got it taken off my acct. We used the swabs we wanted tested, and paid extra for fast results . This came back in a month's time, and was just an email on line, with some arrows on several countries and some percentages.
I know family lore can be incorrect, but some heritage facts we were sure of, were not evident in the results, and we feel since we did not give them the clues we were looking for, (that they asked for) so they couldn't use them and we would get a true list of results, we are confused as to the genuine results. I guess you get what you pay for, but a months worth of emails amounting to about 8 or more....I have to say I definitely do not recommend this company and if I'd read the other reviews first, would not have wasted my money.
This was a Birthday present for my husband.
Rating their customer service is difficult as they responded rapidly , full of sugar and pep talk, but did not seem to be connected to the real research going on, but was located countries away, at least the persons I spoke had various accents and the connections were poor. I just feel this whole thing was a big waste of time and money....do not use them to get true results and get pressured to buy upgraded tests that might not even be true.

Regarding the ancestry results, genetics and genealogy are related but not always identical. Genealogy is based on family records and known ancestry, while genetics analyzes inherited DNA segments. Because DNA inheritance is random, some known family backgrounds may appear in smaller percentages or may not appear prominently in ethnicity estimates.
Results can also vary between companies due to differences in databases and regional classifications. Additionally, not every ancestor passes down detectable DNA over generations, even when there is documented family history from a specific region.

Theircresults are incorrect and their customer support is insulting
Their results did not match other tests I had run nor did their results match my genealogy research. The results were so off-base that I seriously think I gave me else's results. (For instance, the other tests and my research indicated more than 60% of my ancestors come from one country; CRI says I have no DNA from there.) When I questioned them, they told me they don't make mistakes. After multiple questions, they agreed to look into it. That was three-months ago and there has been no follow up nor have they responded to my requests for updates.
This is not a trustworthy company.

Genealogy follows documented family history, such as names, locations, and family records, while genetic ancestry estimates are based on inherited DNA patterns and statistical comparisons to reference populations. Because of this, it is possible for DNA results to differ from known family history or from other testing companies, especially since each company uses different databases, population samples, and interpretation methods.
For example, a family line associated with one country through records and identity may genetically overlap with neighboring populations due to centuries of migration, border changes, and population mixing. Different companies may categorize those same DNA markers differently.

Waste of money.
First of all I was very disappointed I had to pay import fees on this - I did not realize it wasn't Canadian. Second - I had to request the return label as my kit did come with one. I paid extra to have the report expedited and now my dashboard says it could take 30 - 60 days to get any Relative Finder matches.
The report I received has no personal information, I already know what colour my eyes are and what shape my nose is. The ancestry information is extremely vague and I quite disagree with it knowing my own ancestry quite well. I feel this was a waste of time and money.
The only positive comment I have is that when I needed to contact customer service in the beginning they were very prompt and helpful.

Do not buy from this company
When you buy the genetic test, just know that you will then have to pay even more than you paid for the test to actually access the data you are after. It is a bait and switch tactic.
If you do end up spending the extra $169 for the health data, just know that it is laid out in an incredibly unintuitive fashion, and finding actual information vs derived nonsense is extraordinarily difficult.
I do not recommend this company.

Ansestery report was good
I got my report faster than anticipated. I learned I'm mostly German, which I did NOT know & several other ansestery suprizes BUT I was not impressed with the "Health reports" . They seemed to test for silly things & things that are obvious that I didn't need to pay extra for like if I have blue or brown eyes, if I am likely to smell asparagus in urine.. I wish the health report told me more serious health concerns that really matter. I was happy with the ansestery reports but I don't think the silly things it tells you about your "health" was worth it.

So far, I am satisfied with my experience. Very informative and results were surprising. I haven't had the chance to really explore my membership yet so theres much more to investigate.
Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting more than just a typical "pie chart" background story. CRI Genetics was the right choice for me.

Do not use CRI Genetics! I felt totally ripped off. The results were inaccurate, the database is severely limited, and they trick you into buying 'credits' ($20 each) to unlock results after already paying a high upfront cost. No raw data download for other platforms, and no real customer support. A total bait-and-switch operation.

Our reports are based on DNA comparisons with global reference populations and are designed to reflect genetic lineage, not cultural or personal identity narratives. We’re committed to providing accurate, science-based results.
At this time, DNA testing is not able to identify specific tribes. This is because current genetic science cannot reliably distinguish between individual Native American tribes at that level of detail.
We are continuously improving our research, and if future scientific developments make it possible to identify tribal-level ancestry with confidence, we do plan to include those updates in your results.

We've had nothing but problems even…
We've had nothing but problems even getting our tests to wherever they go to be tested. Stupid me never thought that there would be problems getting our tests back across the boarder into the USA. I know this isn't a CRI issue but it is worth considering if you live outside of the States. Although all the customer service people were fine to deal with, we have had so much trouble getting new kits plus paperwork. Finally, we thought everything was going OK, but one test is being returned again. It's nearly 3 months since I ordered the kits! I have a feeling that I wasted my money on this company.
Update. We requested our money back and within a week we were refunded.

Did they really run my DNA?
First of all my results were totally wrong. I've had my DNA tested twice before. With this kit, I was told my estimated time was 6 to 8 weeks for results. I mailed in my kit and received the email that they had received it and would start working on it. One week later my results were in. One week? They either have no business and no kits too process, they did not test my DNA or have a secret way of processing DNA that the FBI and other agencies don't know about that speeds up the process. I really feel like I was scammed. The reports you get for the original amount you pay are very limited and very generic. Then you have to pay more to get a membership and buy credits to get the other important or interesting reports. Very bad business practice. Not upfront about what reports you actually get without paying more and the fact my results and the time it took to get them was very suspicious. Find a different place to buy a kit and test your DNA.

Once your sample is received in the lab, the actual processing time can vary depending on lab capacity, batching of samples, and the progress when your kit arrives. It will also depend on how complex your DNA samples are, which can result in faster-than-expected turnaround times than the 6-8 week timeframe being given. This does not mean the sample was not tested.
As for your concern about the reports and pricing structure, we understand your frustration. The initial report includes core ancestry insights, while additional reports (such as more detailed traits and health-related insights) are optional enhancements that some customers choose to unlock.
