We had an absolutely terrible experience on our move day and after with Cornerstone Removals.

We paid for the full packing service, as well as moving. The packing team, Liliana and another lady, were pleasant and efficient, but, when we came to unpack, even though they had labelled boxes, they clearly just threw anything and everything into any old box and closed it. To give just one example, the kettle was in one box and its stand / plug in a completely different one, not even labelled as “kitchen”. Total nightmare to unpack, couldn’t find anything easily and there were lots of small items that hadn’t been packed with care and are therefore broken or damaged.

We were unfortunate to have Paulo and his team for the actual move. One of the first things Paulo said to us was that he was super hungover from drinking too much cachaca (a Brazilian liquor) the night before. This was very alarming, especially as they had just driven over 3 hours to reach us, so were, most likely, still over the legal drink drive limit in terms of alcohol whilst driving.

Paulo left most of the work to his, inexperienced (his words) assistants. In fact, I went to check that everything had been packed from the office in our old house and found Paulo laying on the floor taking a nap. He didn’t even get up when I left the room.

By the time we got to the new house, Paulo was feeling really unwell (his words, he said he wondered if he had covid and not just a hangover) so did virtually nothing, whilst leaving the inexperienced assistants to it. Paulo actually went and sat in one of the vans to have a nap (again).

It took them a long time to assemble our wardrobes in the new house (they dismantled them to transport) and they didn’t follow our instructions as to where we wanted them, but once constructed they were too heavy to move, so we’ve just had to live with that, which is far from ideal.

The team brought the boxes into the house with absolutely no regard for the labelling on them (not that that meant much, as it turns out). They also gave no thought as to how we might be able to move around the house once they left - it was virtually impossible because they had just dumped boxes anywhere and everywhere.

About 30 mins before they finished unloading, Paulo woke up and actually had the audacity to ask us if he could stay the night at our new house, as he didn’t feel up to driving back. Naturally, we said no, which didn’t seem to go down too well, but the whole thing made us feel very uncomfortable.

The following day, 24th November 2023, we found that our microwave was missing and immediately contacted Paulo directly (as we had his number from the day before) who confirmed he had our microwave and it had been missed because it was in the cabin of the van, not the back of the vans that we were shown empty at the end of the moving day. Paulo then said he would buy us a new microwave and asked for us to send options to him. He clearly found the options we sent to be too expensive, so said he would bring the microwave back and did in fact do so on 25th November 2023, along with 2 doormats he also found of ours in the cabin.

Finally, it was on 28th November 2023 when we were unpacking that we discovered they had seriously damaged an expensive musical instrument of mine. What’s more, they had clearly tried to cover this up, as they had put a part of the musical instrument (that had clearly fallen out of the case when they dropped it) into a different bag that had clothes in. As well as emailing Cornerstone Removals directly, we contacted Paulo via audio message to let him know about the issue, at which point he called me directly and apologised profusely for this and said he had spoken with his team to find out what happened and told them they should have told us on the day that this had happened.

However, since then, I have been unable to get hold of Cornerstone Removals on the phone (they just don’t pick up) and they only responded to my email over 2 weeks later (when we threatened legal action) on 14th December 2023. They have since denied all responsibility, saying they spoke with the removal team and they say they didn’t move that item (which they clearly did, and I’ve asked them to provide proof they didn’t - needless to say, no further response).

As such, I will be pursuing legal action against them to recover compensation for the significant damage to this instrument.

Also, just to warn people, Paulo is in the process of setting up his own removal company called Macho Removals. I can see they have appeared on Instagram in recent days - he gave us his card so we could recommend him, which we obviously won’t be doing! So, I would be very wary of using Macho Removals if you are ever looking for removals as well, as I am sure he and his team won’t be any different to this experience!

Fantastic team, very helpful, efficient and tidy. They packed and unpacked everything in a very short period of time, they were very careful with our things and were really helpful the times we had yo ask to put a chest of drawers in a different room due to miscommunication. Highly recommended

Where to begin.
THEY were supposed to uninstall remove my washing machine and dishwasher, and re install them in the new house, they broke the plastic part which caps the water off, and if I hadn't have used the sink to fill up the mop bucket I would not have known and would have been liable for major water damage caused by this, I have had to pay a plumber to sort it out and fix it, they also did not install them in the new home, just came up with a feable excuse of not having all the parts to do this, again I had a plumber also do this for me. They took advantage of the fact I am single with 2 children and I felt pressured to sign thier phone to say I was satisfied which I definitely am not, they were supposed to have disposed of a chest of drawers from the garage but they made excuses about not doing that so I had no choice but to reluctantly agree to load up extra boxes instead! they had items from a previous customer also already in the van that they hadn't disposed of which took up my allotted space. I have emailed them to complain and they clearly don't want to know, I am still waiting for a response. They are by far the worst removals company I have ever come across.

The company was incredibly flexible when we had issues with our move and very kind. The guys doing the move were incredibly considerate and efficient, would 100% recommend them to anyone

Thanks to being mucked about by our buyers, we were left trying to find removals at last minute and picked this firm from the glowing reviews. The survey was done by phone. We asked for a full packing service and explained we had a lot of stuff.
Liliana was like a whirlwind and packed most of the house on her own, including all our shoes and my daughter's school blazer she needed for the next day with her mobile phone in the pocket.
Four removers didn't arrive until 9am in two tiny vans and were already sitting outside on their first break before 10am. They didn't seem to know where to start and were unaware they were supposed to finish the packing. I called the office to say there was no way everything would fit, and they sent a supervisor and mate, which speeded up proceedings.
In the meantime the accountant called to shout at me because we hadn't paid in advance, although we'd told them the wifi was turned off the day before, and tried to charge us more money for the supervisor's extra van.
The movers took no care at all, bashing our furniture on walls and bannisters. One dropped a box coming into the new house and they all laughed, making no effort to pick up the contents.
The supervisor was helpful with placement of furniture in the new house and plumbed in the washing machine.
Clearing the old house took longer than expected, probably due to the huge number of breaks they all took, and they left stuff in every room. Instead of clearing one room completely so we could clean it they took bits out of every room at the same time. It took my husband until midnight to clean behind them.
Once they'd unloaded the vans they all sat underneath the front window of our new house and lit up. So rude and disrespectful.
It wasn't until the next day that we realised they had left behind £1k of catio and most of the contents of the shed, all of which were on the inventory and too big to fit in a car.
A developer bought our old house and immediately put up security fencing, so we couldn't retrieve anything from the garden and they destroyed everything that was left behind while we were trying to contact the Estate Agent.
Many calls and emails to Cornerstone were just ignored, so we have been left hugely out of pocket. No wonder they want the money up front. I didn't realise this firm used sub contractors. We would have been better off grabbing 4 people out of the local pub and chucking them £500 each to move us. I am so angry that we paid for a professional removal service and that was not what we got.

Avoid this company. They are incompetent, careless, and flagrantly dishonest.

To list the events of my move:

Their (sub) contractors nearly came to blows with each other, and spent most of the time yelling obscenities at each other.

They smashed the screen of my television - as well as other incidents of lesser damage to other items.

They offered a paltry amount in compensation, which they took over two months to pay.

They do not return enquiry calls.

Shocking experience, paid additional insurance cover as we have very valuable items. However if you have a damaged item it isn't covered unless their subcontractors admit to breaking it. Even though it was stated that the item was for them to protect it as an individual item in transit. Yet they did not unwrap it to check!

1. They use SUBCONTRACTORS with sub standard vehicles and protection. One vehicle had no tail lift, using a tire as a step.
2. Stated that THEY would box a 65" telly at survey, then wrapped it in bubble wrap and said that's acceptable.
3. They do NOT disclose that the moving teams are subcontract! Or we would not have used them!

The TV got damaged as it was wafer thin, it wasn't seen till unwrapped as they did not unwrap for the liability of them protecting it. So a £2800 telly was not covered apparently and we got offered £150 compensation.

If you want to move a box fill your boots, if you have anything valuable at all AVOID the subcontract route and go with a professional team.
