Our family feel completely let down through our experience with Compass over the last few months.

We paid thousands of pounds to apply for CHC for our 90 year old Mother. My Mother is bedridden unless she is hoisted into her chair. My Mother hasn't been able to walk for two years and relies on nursing/care staff for absolutely everything, in order to just survive on a daily basis. However, because my Mother hasn't got dementia and can make a choice, we felt that our Mother's case was somewhat penalised because of this. My Mother's case didn't even pass through the first stage of the meeting which was the criteria/check list.

During this meeting, the Compass professional who was representing my Mother's case, wasn't even there in person. So bearing this in mind, most of the difficult challenging on behalf of my Mother was from myself and my two brothers. In fact, the Compass representative agreed with every decision that the ICB Senior Nurse was making. There was absolutely no challenge against any criteria decision made by the ICB nurse from this particular Compass representative. Also, there were two criteria that left my brothers and I totally unprepared as we weren't made aware of certain information. This made us feel blindsided and uncomfortable.

One of my brothers put in a written complaint to Compass with our many grievances. In fairness to Compass, they offered to have another professional to represent my Mother's case in a further meeting for no added cost. However, we declined as we feel no confidence in the competence that Compass have displayed up to this point. Therefore, it was an easy decision for us to decline and walk away from any further representation in the future.

We are due a small refund but we have still paid out thousands of pounds for a poor service.

It's terrible when people have dementia and aggressive behaviour and my heart goes out to all these families but we feel that because my Mother is a compliant and softly spoken individual, this has been held against her. Even though my Mother is totally dependent on staff for daily survival and on antidepressants for depression, this hasn't helped my Mother's case because my Mother is lucid.

Regardless of the excuses, after your investigation into this matter with my mother, the decision by the powers above have said that she doesn't qualify because she has been means tested and she has too much money saved.

Compass CHC were there to help and their back-up was amazing. Getting CHC is very difficult to navigate and deal with if you do not know what the assessors are looking for. Noah was very good at explaining the process prior to the checklist so I knew what to expect. Really worth employing Compass.

I have found the company to be extremely thorough in their preparation, leaving no stone unturned. I could never have put together such a detailed and knowledgeable case myself, having neither the ability, nor the time.
I am grateful to my advocate for her calm and measured approach in the DST meeting, and the Appeals meeting. Again, I would not have been able to handle the process myself. Whether or not the appeal is successful, I consider the service that I have received to be excellent, from the work put into researching the case, the very good communications all the way along the line, and the representation at the meetings.

Today an assessment took place on a family member. The Compass CHC advocate , Faith Onwuzuruike, telephoned me prior to the meeting to discuss our family member. During the meeting, Faith was very helpful and understanding of the sensitive nature of the information being relayed. After the meeting a follow up call was made by Faith to ensure that everything had been understood by myself and of the next steps in the process.

The process started positively. My questions were answered and I felt confident that the result would be positive. I agreed to go ahead and waited quite a few months for anything to happen.i was expected to do a lot of the preliminary work myself. As we got closer to the DST it became harder to get through. In the end phone calls weren’t answered and I felt unsupported. I was left with the sense that I’d wasted my money. The free advice from a company that is recommended by Parkinson’s UK was far more useful. When I queried the statistics presented by compass they could not verify them. I advise people to steer clear of compass.

Compass CHC explained clearly how the process would work and responded quickly to any emails.
Madison Turner , the supporting advocate, explained the process well and during the checklist assessment provided further information to complement the final decision.

Our Advocate has given us excellent service with good communications throughout the application and has been very efficient and respectful.

I felt that there was a person there to help me through the minefield of questions from the Continuing healthcare people, I found that if I did not understand what I was being asked, they stepped in to help.
They phoned me after all the questions, A. To see if I was Ok, and B. to talk about the answers I gave.
I felt with Compass there with me, I could answer the questions to the best of my ability.
They are a great Company to go to, for help and advice.
They talk you through everything, and do not talk down to you like some firms do. I would recommend anyone who needs help and advice like I did, to phone them.
The Staff are helpful, know how to make it easier for you, and their Service is excellent.

I want people to be aware they are paying Compass just under £8,000 for a written report only. You pay it before the report is released, too, and £4,000 of it as an initial downpayment. If you want further help arguing your case, that costs thousands more. The people on the phone are absolutely charming but I don't think they made this last point clear enough.

In my case, the report contained the name of another person and I had to go through and correct it!

But in the end the report made no difference to the judgement anyway. My dad still doesn't qualify for financial help.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Compass CHC for the support, guidance and professionalism they have shown while helping me pursue NHS Continuing Healthcare funding for my brother, who is living with advanced dementia and increasingly complex care needs.

Research the internet as there are many companies who do no win no fee arrangements.

Compass have been very helpful and professional in all of our correspondence thus far. I recently had a teams meeting during which I found Kennedi to be very helpful and knowledgeable in all areas. She made me feel comfortable and at ease which I feel is important during these difficult situations.

It was a difficult meeting but we felt totally supported by the advocate present. He challenged and questioned when I felt like we were being pushed into making rash decisions to agree with her interpretation of what she understood my mother’s capabilities were. Given that she had only just met my mother I felt at time she was quick to dismiss and silence us. Amin was able to challenge appropriately and ensure ours and the carers voices were heard. Amin tried to seek clarity on some of the answers but the representative was not willing to discuss or share her opinion.

It was difficult not to become angry with how we were spoken to but Amin kept the situation calm I was so grateful for his support.
