Hi I am about to go go off work on long term sick for an operation. On letting my company know they said I only x amount off sick pay which I thought was wrong as should be back to full entitlement. Asked them to check again same answer. I am in the union so contact Paul Thomas and had a chat with him. Paul said leave with him in two hours got a phone call back all sick pay back to full entitlement.
Could have cost me a lot money and financial difficulties with bills.

Had an issue at work, I was a community member so contacted them they were great. I was backed up and helped from the 1st contact. The rates on the membership are low and its the feeling of support that helps in stressful situations . Darryl was brilliant polite Informative and was with me all the way, can't thank them enough.

I am extremely disappointed with this union. After we were made redundant last year, they promised to help us apply for a protective award claim, but they have done absolutely nothing. The redundancy was just announced via a cold email, and since then, we’ve been left entirely on our own. They keep sending us vague updates every four or five months, claiming they’re waiting for approval, but the last email we received was back in February. It’s now been over a year, and we still haven’t received any concrete updates or help. This has been a complete waste of time—avoid this union if you need real support." Last email received from Paul Warren on 10 February since then nothing still waiting for a year i am 100% sure this company is a SCAM and only takes money from people

Absolutely rubbish. They are not interested in supporting you and advising you on how to proceed in any employment issues you may have. They are happy to take your premiums but give you the very basic attention in return.
They will try to avoid anything in your claim that may create a financial expense for them.
Some staff seem inexperienced and not really interested in supporting you. I had to ask to change to another advisor as I felt I wasn't being supported properly.
You are better off cancelling your subscription and using a free legal advice line connected to one of your insurances like home or car etc or use Citizens Advice instead.

Thankfully the solicitors I contacted through my insurance company thought my case was solid and were more than happy to take on my claim against my previous employer when Community Union refused to.

This company offers very basic support/advice and will abandon you when you need them the most.

I have had the pleasure of working alongside Deena and Sayid for the past few months and can't sing their praises enough, they have been attentive, detail oriented, organised and helpful even outside of work hours, always going the extra mile to ensure people like me get the best possible experience through using them. Will recommend to anyone wondering whether its worth joining :)

My union representative Richard was amazing! He provided me with so much comfort and knowledge about my predicament with work. I am extremely greatful for his support and was extremely happy with the outcome of my meeting today. Thank you Richard.

Helpful calm and caring. He asked questions to him understand the problem and reasurred me. He got in touch by phone and email as well as after his working hours. He came to my meetings was very patient with me and knowledgeable. Couldn't have asked for more have recommended the union to colleagues. His name was John Roy, I couldn't have done it without his help.
He's a great representative of the union i felt like he cared and had my best interests at heart. He increased my confidence in the union especially when collegues at work that use other unions have struggled to gain representation and in person support.
Couldn't ask for more from this union and the team I even sent chocolates as thank you.

I had a great experience being supported by my Community Union representative Darren. Darren was empathetic, supportive, and gave me some good advice too, which is all I could have wished for during a very challenging and upsetting situation I was facing at work. Community Union responded to my queries immediately and despite it being quite late notice, Darren came along to support me. I don't know how I would have coped without his support, it really felt like some had my back and was on my side in what would otherwise have been a very lonely experience. I'd advise everyone to join, it's absolutely worth it. Thank you!

Community Union organised training on Interviews skills. The training was to the point with an easy to follow structure, with practical insights and tips to use.

I have not long attended a few training Courses Run by Kate Allen.
Absolutely Amazing & so very Informative.
It keeps me up to date with all the latest Updates to continue to do my job properly.

I've just attended an excellent online workshop on Bid Writing at which I learned about Community's own grants for local project.

I'm looking forward to future events.

Absolute brilliant from start to finish - helped me get onto a course which all in all was about 2 weeks. So helpful at all times and regular contact. Cannot speak highly enough.

I joined Community in October 2025. I was accompanied by Matt to a meeting with management. He was very professional, communicated well with me prior to the meeting, reassured me during the meeting and was extremely knowledgeable in employment law.
If you are not a member and considering, please join as soon as possible. We hope that our managers understand employment law but more often than not they simply don't.
Don't put yourself in a position of fighting your employer alone, make sure you have union representation on your side. You absolutely will not regret it.

Darren was very proffesional and helpfull he discussed my issuss with me and took notes and adviced me what to do and then in the meeting spoke excellently and represented me in the best way much appreciated

Nico was brilliant, he helped me through a very difficult disciplinary process and aided in bringing the best possible outcome of a very bad situation. He's a lovely, personable and empathetic bloke and the perfect person for the job.

I joined Community for their values, and have to say that I couldn't be more glad to be with them. I recently had a situation I needed help with, and the support I was given went more than above and beyond even though I joined only 6 months ago. Sam Williams deserves the shout-out especially for being committed and providing clear and timely communication. He spotted inconsistencies I missed completely. The outcome we fought for was confirmed today and I don't think this would've happened without his help.
It's inspiring because this makes me want to continue to fight for a better work life not just for me but for colleagues like me who don't get the support we really need at work. I will look into more ways to engage within the union, because seeing the possibility of change firsthand really impressed me.

I recently had a serious disciplinary hearing with my employer. I was ably represented by Richard Holmes my area representative and reminded me of the value of Union representation. I would recommend that if you’re seeking a Union to join then Community would be a good choice as they are open to all .

I joined Community Union hoping to receive advice and support if any issues arose with my job. However, after paying membership fees for around a year and a half, I was made redundant while on maternity leave. I contacted Community immediately and requested several call backs, but unfortunately none were returned.
The response I received was by email and mainly contained information that appeared to be taken directly from the government website. While I appreciate being pointed to relevant resources, I had expected more personalised advice and support given the circumstances. The communication also felt quite impersonal, and responses were slow, which made it difficult to keep up with the timeline set by my former employer.
It also became clear during the process that there was very little the union could actually do to assist in my situation. Overall, the support I received did not meet my expectations, and in the end I felt I had to deal with the situation on my own. Based on my experience, it may be worth considering other forms of protection, such as unemployment insurance instead of union membership.

I’m very glad I joined Community Union because they helped me a lot from the very first moment I had problems with the company I work for. There are many unions out there, but Community really stood out to me because, unlike some others, they sent a representative to support me in person whenever I needed help with my case.

Later on, my case became more complicated, and Fahima became my solicitor. She helped me a lot, and all the legal documents went through her. If you don’t have legal knowledge, having someone experienced handling the legal side of things can be extremely helpful.

For me, being part of a union made a real difference.
