Hopton Blood Donation
Arrived at Hopton on time to be met with belligerent nurse who barked at us, then complained we didn’t have paperwork although nhs blood hadn’t sent any out, said couldn’t wait in their seating unless giving blood and generally made us feel unwelcome. If nhs want blood donors they need to show common courtesy…. don’t go to Hopton!
Should be some leniency in appointment time.
Husband went to give blood today at Hereford racecourse. He arrived only half an hour early due to a family committment and was not allowed to donate. As NHS are desperate for blood at this time, some leniency should be applied.
Typical NHS service of poorly organised…
Typical NHS service of poorly organised time and money wasting !
Signed up couple of years ago and I get phoned up and asked to give blood every few months. I’ve not actually been able to give blood yet as 4x in a row they have cancelled my appointment two hours before.
Not giving again
Poorly trained
The first-time I gave blood the closest centre was Birmingham so I booked it for my day off and although something new to me went off without too much hassle (the hardest thing was gaining entry to the building)
My second time in Wolverhampton however was really rather unpleasant. I attended the venue early and it reminded me somewhat of a jumble sale, I had to wait 30mins past my appointment time before the phlebotomist came for me. Paperwork and test completed I get settled in the chair, the "blood flow" was slow he thought I was clotting and needed to adjust the needle he asked me to keep clenching my fist while he did so, the nurse came over and told me I shouldn't be doing that. She told him to stop to process, what neither of the caught onto was the fact the blood flow was slow because he'd left the cuff inflated restricting blood flow...
I've a huge bruise on the inside of my arm which I didn't experience my first time visiting and honestly has quite put me off. IF I do go back it won't be Wolverhampton despite how close it is.
I am more than happy to donate.
I am more than happy to donate.
One would think that given we donate it for free, they will have sufficient funds to sponsor their operations giving more flexibility to people who have busy life and work with venues and times available.
Unfortunately this is not the case...
Venues are far apart, often getting cancelled, times available are 2-3 months in advance only.... If you do get to come - you can tell that the whole operation is understaffed as well as not fully trained on occasions, giving me impressions that front staff are young volunteers who again - are not paid to do what they do.
Only place they have invested in, are call centers, who will set your phone on fire with calls being done ever other week....even if you already donated and have your appointment scheduled...
Jo Farrar has done nothing since he become CEO 1,5 year ago and should be let go....
Bring someone who is really passionate to bring the good cause to its excellence.
For me, based on my experience and others that I read, impressions are - its a failure not of lack of blood available for donations, but the infrastructure that has been failing for years and not providing real opportunities for people to do Good
A review of the NHS Blood Donation system - Poorly Implemented
One fully believes in the cause to donate blood and the reasons behind it. They always claim that blood levels are low and that we should go and donate. I am more than willing and happy to. However, it is not well implemented. In many locations one cannot get appointments to donate blood until three months time. When donors often have busy schedules and do not know what they will be doing in three months time with higher priorities. Then when one does get an appointment the staff refuse to take blood from donors simply because they can’t find the blood. This is inexcusable, raising the question do they really have low levels of blood, if they did they would easily find the blood in donors. This is simply a waste of resources both for the donors and the Service and it’s staff.
Im a 0- negative blood donor
Im a 0- negative blood donor, I like to donate regularly, however it would seem the NHS don’t want my blood.
It’s been twice off the trot now where I have booked my donation slot at the only nearest venue local to me just for the NHS to go and cancel the venue.
If that’s not bad enough the NHS then pester me on the phone at home to book an appointment to donate, the lady said it was the venue that cancelled and not the NHS.
This was not true as I had already spoken with the venue who said it was the NHS who had cancelled.
I am unable to attend any other venue further a field due to constraints on my time being as I’m a carer for both my elderly parents.
NHS if your going to cancel my appointment please don’t then hassle me on the phone at home to book to go elsewhere.
I’ve booked it’s you who keep cancelling.
I’m trying my best to do the right thing, you ask for O- donors but then cancel their appointments 😡
Why I'm no longer a donor
Further to my review in July, its happened again. I was booked to donate today and for the third time in less than 6 months I received a text message cancelling the session. It's not good enough and so I intend to stop being a donor. If the blood service stopped sending so many communications in the post, on email, by text and phone calls, and put resources into actually delivering blood donation sessions then they might actually improve blood stocks.
Ridiculous reason given for not being able to give blood
I used to give blood years ago then was stopped in 2004 because I had taken a fertility drug (gave many donations in between time that were not queried) Because I am O RH Positive and adverts are out for donors I contacted the BTS and was told that 20 YEARS LATER I still can't give blood-how ridiculous just goes to show that at 61years old I am supposedly still a "fertility" risk (having gone through the menopause years ago this is clearly not the case) Shows that the service is not serious about wanting blood.
Straightforward donation, terrible issue trying to book appointments to donate.
The actual blood donation issue is very straightforward however the website to actually try and book an appointment is dreadful. Crashes all the time so how many people willing to donate give up. Wales is the country where I am trying to donate.
Near impossible to get an appointment
Near impossible to get an appointment.
Overcrowded session - what is the point in having an appointment if you over subscribe and don't provide enough resources.
Donate in Wales if you can it's much better
No idea why this site has bad reviews!
No idea why this site has bad reviews!
I am a regular blood donor and I am always extremely happy with the donation process. I hope more people choose to donate as we need a huge amount for many reasons in the country and it is super easy to do. You also get a choccy bar or two ;)
Larbert give blood
Staff incompetent and lack common sense. Have heartburn apparently not severe enough to see a specialist or have followup by NHS. So decided to go private as I want to know what causes the heartburn and its impossible to get anywhere with the NHS. Now because I've went private off my own back I'm apparently under investigation and can't give blood. I asked why and explained your own NHS aren't interested so surly that means I'm good to give blood. And asked can you give blood with acid reflux condition and they said yes so what's the difference just got a stupid blank expression back. Wasted 45min for nothing
Extremely bad experience twice for incompetence
Extremely bad experience twice for booking an appointment at Norfolk house Manchester. My blood donation could not proceed despite falling in the category of all right things only but the veins are said to be smaller and thin. I was hydrated with more than 1.5ltrs water and have good body weight. My structure is athletic and I play recreational. The nurses here could not put a rubber band to pop the veins. They only work like robots through the process and very much lacking skills. I had to wait an hour for my two appointments and the nurses only know how to fill out forms rather than put effort to find veins.
Absolutely fantastic experience!
Absolutely fantastic experience, giving blood yesterday at Brixton Town Hall. Lovely staff. Very attentive to detail. Very caring. Extremely hygienic. Expert needle insertion. Painless and easy donation of my blood. No bruising afterwards. The staff were very friendly and caring. Thank you!
Poor communication
Visited the Leicester Donor Centre today for a 12.25 appointment.
At 13.00 I asked the receptionist how much longer I would be waiting as I had an appointment elsewhere at 14.00.
The receptionist was at best defensive & at worst outright argumentative snapping I should have read the sign advising it can take up to an hour to give blood, she then ignored me.
Miraculously 30 seconds later I was called through by a very pleasant very apologetic worker who explained they were short staffed that day (obvious by the empty donor chairs)
All myself & the other people waiting & regularly checking the clock needed was the receptionist to let us know the reason for the delay
Super friendly staff at the nottingham…
Super friendly staff at the nottingham blood bank all the staff/ nurses very friendly and professional and a true asset the NHS and worth every thing they deserve.
This is my 3rd appointment being…
This is my 3rd appointment being cancelled because of unforseen circumstances in Twickenham! What a waste of time and disrespect towards donors!
And yet, I am keep on getting messages asking me to donate blood! I have got 30 credits and think that's the end of my journey with donating blood- feel ignored and disrespected by the NHS!
Used to be a simple walk in system
Used to be a simple walk in system, now you have to book 3 months in advance, in addition when I did donate no parking was available at derriford hospital so I paid and after an hour or so they still hadn’t validated my parking. Also I got very sick directly after donating and I did think the place was a little dirty. Don’t think I’ll do it anymore after the last poor effort on their part.
NHS Nurses.....It's Very Sad
My Appointment was 13.55 28/10/23 at Baginton United Reformed Church CV3 6FP.
Arrived at church but saw it closed, waited and walked to side tried another door which was also closed...was about to leave then saw a Blood Donation lorry right at the Far End..
On entering explained to 6-7 nurses around a table enjoying tea that they need to put a sign on church door to inform people...
They looked at me liked I was from Planet Mars..after explaining one nurse said 'ill go and put a note on the church door'..
Immediately I arrived & was at the front of queue, subsequently 3 people had arrived and the receptionist then told me to get to the back !
I left immediately and wil not be attempting to donate again.
Wonderful NHS !
