I went down to Otley Garden Centre earlier today for 3 bags of compost and really wanted more but being almost 79 years old and having had 8 knee operations and a dislocated hip, I felt lifting 3 bags into my car was as much as I could manage to lift onto the trolley and then into my car, but an employee named Dean saw that I was struggling and kindly offered to help, as a result of which I was able to buy 8 bags, which he loaded onto my trolley and accompanied me to the till, before lifting the compost into my car (I managed one bag myself). Whilst Dean was younger than me, he wasn't a youngster himself but couldn't have helped me more than he did. He also had a nice friendly manner about him and is an asset to Otley Garden Center and when I next go there for for more compost or to buy anything heavy, I shall be hoping that he will be working on the day to help me. Two online orders placed, one for a BBQ and one for a garden dining set. First one was delivered on a pallet with no notice, but fortunately we were in. The second item came on the expected day following some confusion because the item was two big for the original van. The reason for this was that the dining set(4chairs, table, parosol and base) had been stacked on top of one another and cling filmed to fit on a single pallet. The delivery was so tall it would not go in the garage and had to be left on the drive until my husband arrived home and we could separate the boxes. No information is provided on ordering that the items will be delivered on a pallet, causing problems and leaving you with pallets to get rid of. Emailed YGC with feedback but no response.

Very very disappointing I will never step foot in one of their stores again.
On 22nd may I wanted to purchase a lovely water feature from tong (£429.99) as a present to my wife for her 60th birthday on the 24th, unfortunately they only had a display item but informed me the item was in stock at Tingley so I asked for them to put the item to one side for me to pick up the next day. I went over to Tingley on Friday 23rd May and purchased the water feature. Once I returned home I opened the box containing the pump and found the hose that connects the pump to the top plate to be missing. By this time it is 10:30 and we are catching a train to Leeds to celebrate my wife’s birthday with friends so I do not have the time to return to the store to collect the hose ready for my wife’s birthday the following day.
I called the store immediately and spoke to the store manager explaining the predicament and asked for the hose to be sent over as it was not my fault that the part was missing. The supposed store manager (they might think to send on a customer relations course!) Was less than helpful and told me it was not his problem I would have to come and collect the missing part myself!! After much explanation and education in customer relations he still insisted this was not his problem and I would have to collect it myself if I wanted the said water feature to be ready and working for my wife’s birthday the following day!
So as the store manager was so unhelpful, at great expense to myself (£42) I had to send a taxi to collect the essential missing part for the water feature.
I sent the company a letter of complaint and received a reply from an area manager stating they stand by their store manager.
Unbelievable!

Very poor customer service. On 23 April 2025 I ordered and paid for a Leyburn Bistro Set with a delivery date of 4th June. We ordered the set to match a 4 seater Leyburn table and chairs which we had ordered a week or so before.
On 2nd June I was advised that the Bistro Set would not be delivered as there were no sets in stock, nor would any be available in the future. The person I spoke with wasn’t even apologetic. I have since sent an email to the company to complain but haven’t had the courtesy of a reply. This really is appalling service and a great way to lose a customer.

I went with my mum to have a look around Yorkshire Garden Centre at their Otley branch as we were looking for something specific. I suggested afterwards that we went into Hattie`s as I had a free drink through their Green Card loyalty.
I went to the counter and ordered 2 x regular hot chocolates at £4.15, knowing that it should be £4.15 with the free drink. When Operator 797 quoted £4.79 I said no, it`s £4.15 for a regular and she said it`s coming up at the till as 4.79.
Looking at the menu, I was charged for a luxury hot chocolate which I DID NOT request. I was waiting for the manager to appear after I had finished the drink but she never appeared.

If you look at my account you will see that I have a record of buying hot chocolates at the regular price of 4.15. I`ve had a welcome freebie of a luxury hot chocolate when green card started and that came with marshmallows and cream piled on top. This was just an over priced regular that I did`nt ask for.

The prices are clearly marked on the menus so staff should listen to what the customer asks for !!
