I booked through Volunteer World to go to the Tenerife Animal Sanctuary. From the deposit invoice I thought they were taking 5%. In effect, I found out then I got to the sanctuary that they were taking 25% (more than booking.com!!!!!)

Absolutely shameful and by complaints to them about this not being clear on their website have been stonewalled.

I'm a former professional humanitarian nurse and psychotherapist today.
At the end of the year I've decided - wanting to go back to Africa but not as a tourist - to join both ideas for my holidays.
I had the chance to find Volunteer World first thing on the internet. Also, I found the mission of my dreams and according to my professional experiences straight away and contact and communication started within 2 days...
Contact by mail, visio with the future working place - answers straight away, any time and efficient.
I must say that NEVER in my long professional life I had met wonderful and competent people like this team . Never!
They know their profession but with heart, humanity understanding and flexibility.
We are now discussing the date of my leaving which depends on their but also my disponibilities since I am still working.
The project, the contact, the humanity, professional side and "simplicity" made me happy from the first moment on and I give them my whole confidence.(having worked in hospitals and for NGOs you find out the difference ... :)

As a parent, the idea of a gap year was honestly quite frightening. Letting go of my fears and allowing my child to travel so far on his own wasn’t easy. I worried about what could happen and whether he was ready. At the same time, I knew deep down that he needed this experience to grow.

Discovering Volunteer World changed everything. It gave him the opportunity to explore the world while helping others, learning, caring, and maturing — and it gave me real peace of mind. It felt like the perfect balance.

We booked four volunteer assignments, each more exciting than the next. When he comes home, he won’t just return with incredible life experiences, but also with a stronger CV and a deeper sense of responsibility. I couldn’t be more grateful. The process is simple and the assignments look incredible (I am seriously thinking of booking one for me and my husband) - I'll post back when he will have completed them all....
