Home from home
This was my fifth stay in Manchester this year and although there are a number of highly rated hotels to choose from, I keep returning to The Midland.
The hotel is beautiful and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Many of the staff recognise me from my stays here and find the time to speak with me.
The Guest Relations team have always welcomed me personally on arrival and Jade was quick to make sure that I knew that she was available if I needed anything.
Each and every stay that I have here leaves me feeling relaxed and comfortable. I have stayed here on many occasions and it feels like a home from home.
I have already booked to stay here the weekend of the Grand National when I get the train into Liverpool for the races.
Diabolical service and attitude
Diabolical service and attitude. Was taken for cocktails and pre theatre supper. Arrived and was told to find a seat...., we got a drinks menu and eventually a guy came over to ask what we wanted. There were only 2 other people in the bar. I ordered a grapefruit gin with a fevertree tonic. When the drinks arrive a different tonic. Questioned the waiter who told me they didn't sell fevertree tonic!! pointed out that the menu said fevertree to which he replied it was a typing error!!! in The Midland Hotel really. The waitress then came for our food choices we wanted Cod. Unfortunately no Cod. We really didn't fancy the other 2 options. We were told that the fish was available at 6.30. So we decided to go to the Art exhibition and come back. After saying yes she then came back and said NO. we left.
I called on Saturday to complain and was told the restaurant manager would call. Failed. Monday I tried again. Was left hanging on for 15mins so tried again today. Spoke to another guy who told me the manager Katie would call. NO. what a terrible state of affairs. If I had shares in
the Midland Id want to know what was happening there.
Food not worth the money
Went to mount Street restaurant in midland hotel for 21 birthday party of 9 was told to be sat for 7 o'clock to order did not take it till late did not get food till 8/15 fish cake £20 small 8 Oz steak £40 no veg unless orded separate chip extra small tiny pepper sauce £4 so bad food for 2 people £110.00 so bad .no pound sign on menu..wish l had read other reviews would not have gone as reviews from 12 months ago just as bad as are experience this year so in a year no improvement.
Never Again!
Never ever will I stay here again!
£180 for a 1 night stay in room 235
Whilst everything about the hotel decor is lovely, I write this after a LONG sleepless night, as the outside noise is horrendous- this room has no features to prevent sound - sirens wailing all night, people in discussion walking by and you can hear every word, then heavy wagons collecting and tipping glass bottles at 3:00am and 6:00am, and so it goes on - maybe 1.5 hours sleep all night!
Then to top it all off go for breakfast at 09:00 to find the buffet is cold and needed to get someone to microwave it to make it edible!
Reception informed upon checkout and the expected ‘I’m sorry’ responses but what will really be done - absolutely nothing!
One thing is certain, I will never return - you have been warned!
What shocking customer service
What shocking customer service! I have a £300 gift voucher and struggling to book since June!! you can’t use them online so when you ring you either get no response or the staff say they can’t book rooms & spa together and ask you to ring someone else. Then when the person said they could they quoted considerably more than the online price. We have liaised with customer service in the hope they would rectify this, after them asking for the gift card vouchers and evidence their response was to call reservations. What a joke! I strongly advise to try another spa / hotel in Manchester.
Staying in the hotel for a conference…
Staying in the hotel for a conference the next day.
Loud music started playing around 9pm, very loud. At 10 pm I asked how long it was going on for and told 1am !
We were on the first floor so directly above it.
We wanted a restful night. What a joke. We would have been better off at the premier inn and cheaper.
We were not warned that this music was going to be this loud or going on on so late! Very, very disappointed and management were not interested in our complaint and said we should expect it !
Terrible hotel stay
Bad hotel stay! Paid £700 for 3 nights incl brekkie. Food was lovely and the hotel interior is beautiful. Well that’s where it ends. On arrival we were asked if we wanted our room cleaned on both days and we said yes. Room wasn’t cleaned once, had no toilet roll, no clean towels, carpet was heavily stained, bed not made and pillows like rock, fridge broke and air con did not work. Complained to reception and the miserable unfriendly staff did nothing on the Sunday morning. A Member of staff tried entering our room on the second night at 11pm without knocking or calling our room, when I got up and approached the man in the hall he just shrugged and walked off, complained to management about this and have had no explanation about it. Wait time for breakfast was about 20mins on 2 occasions and the staff are unfriendly and rude. We were refunded half the money for our stay by a lovely manager but it ruined our weekend after saving and travelling from London. Do not book this overpriced hotel. I wasn’t going to write a review but I am more angry the more I think about it, fancy being woken up in the middle of the night by their staff without reason and no one at the hotel gives a damn. Refund and a complimentary bottle of drink doesn’t make up for a ruined stay sorry, wife’s birthday weekend and she was in tears. Not good midland hotel, do better! Will be taking to complaint about staff trying to enter room much further!
We will be returning
Had a Business event here a couple of weeks ago, the staff are great to deal with, the rooms are spacious & very clean. Me & my Mrs ended up staying the full weekend, really enjoyed the breakfast, and the relaxing spa day. Will defiantly be returning.
It’s a real shame about this hotel
It’s a real shame about this hotel. It is a fantastic building and great facilities but the service for drinks is lousy, due to the perennial problem of too few staff creating long waiting times. It’s been like this for years.
Went for afternoon tea DISASTER
Went for afternoon tea with my family, one of which is a celiac. Firstly tea was not served, only sandwiches and cakes. You have to order separate! Scones were not fresh, and cakes were dry and also not fresh either. Our celiac member who ordered the gluten-free option fell ill with contamination symptoms, so we reported it with no concern at-all. We had to leave due to this, and upon emailing the Midland with our concerns we have had no reply. Have been going for years for meals and teas, but we wont go again - very poor and unprofessional, tardy, very young staff, well below standard.
Sebastian Wood was a brilliant…
Sebastian Wood was a brilliant bartender. He was really friendly and talked us through the different wines without being impatient. The room is excellent and all staff were lovely. Would definitely recommend.
This time we're very disappointed
This time we're very disappointed. We left the room at 11 pm and hung "pls service my room" and the room wasn't serviced when we return at 2 pm so we left the room again and asked the reception to arrange servicing. He said he would ask them to come to clean, so we left again for nearly two hours. Dissapointed again when we returned as a room still not cleaned. We had another night to stay and I was very tired wanting to relaxing in my room when I got back, which was not possible. Well...we often stay here on this occasion they didn't live up to their star rating.
Birthday gift
Last weekend my Fiancé surprised me with a night away in this beautiful hotel for my birthday. The service from the second we walked through the marvellous doors was impeccable, we were greeted numerous times and made to feel so welcome, check in was seamless and we had an amazing room! We stayed in room 642 and it was absolutely beautiful, the staff had gone above and beyond to make it extra special after my fiancé informed them it was my birthday, they went the extra mile in everything they did and it was the most amazing stay. The breakfast the next morning was delicious and plentiful, I could not have asked her for a better gift and we will most definitely be back in the future after this experience! I would like to thank Claudia especially for helping my partner set this all up and making sure that the room was absolutely perfect for us, we really cannot thank you enough, our jaws dropped when we entered the room! From Callum and Tori
Amazing food, great location.
Stayed here for work and would definitely recommend. Lovely staff and amazing food. Great location too.
Superb customer Service
What a gesture by The Midland hotel in Manchester. While attending a conference there, I was looking to pray somewhere. Joe Marriott, guest relation manager, offered me an empty room which they usually charge per night, for free, to pray. Loved the customer service.
Disgusting behaviour from a supposedly premium hotel
I stayed at the midland hotel last year and left a toiletry bag at the hotel containing my passport and my personal valuables.
I immediately contacted the hotel and was told they had found my belongings. They said they didn’t want to post my belongings as it contained my passport, and they didn’t want to be responsible for losing it if it wen’t missing in the Mail.
I arranged with them to pick up my belongings the next time I was in Manchester for work.
So.. the next time I had work in Manchester, I booked at the midland again and notified them I had arrived and would like to collect my belongings the next day when housekeeping was open, (as they had asked me to give them a day notice for them to be able to get the belongings out of a locked room.
I was then told the next day that my bag and passport had been disposed of.
I am absolutely fuming, they stated it was company policy to dispose of said items.
I choose not to stay in cheap hotels as I like to experience hospitality.
To dispose of someone’s items, who has arranged to collect, they had access to my email and phone number when I contacted them about this issue and they proceeded to through away my PASSPORT, jewelllery, aftershaves, amongst other items.
Absolutely disgusting behaviour from a premium hotel, I am over £1000 out of pocket, and after speaking with the staff at the hotel for over twenty minutes, I had to inform them they have yet to even apologise to me. Each member of staff took it in turns to state “it wasn’t me who threw your items away.
I was in absolute shock and disbelief at their attempt to shift blame, and not take accountability for their mistake.
AWFUL SERVICE, awful behaviour and the hotel have point blank refused to come to any sort of conclusion.
AVOID
Charged twice for my stay and broken fridge…
I originally was not going to feedback but I feel I need to. When I checked in for 2 nights at the Midland Manchester on 23/1/23, I was charged twice (£198 x2) for my stay. I consequently had to make several inquiries at the desk and made several telephone calls following this to rectify the situation. It did cause me distress as at the desk the staff kept insisting they had only taken one payment. If I hadn’t checked my bank account at the time, this error would have gone unnoticed. I was reimbursed on 26/1/23 after an Accounts Assistant contacted me.
Also, the fridge in my room was faulty. It froze all the food I had placed in there leaving me with no lunch or dinner. This came to a cost for me. They should go ahead and put something in the fridge and they will discover the same problem. Whether other guests have reported the problem, I don’t know. For the sake of other guests, they need to check these things and and get them fixed.

Lovely staff ,friendly atmosphere with great entertainment highly recommend. The DJ's amazing. The new place to go for me.
Superb service from Amira, Louise, Anthony & Kailum
Superb service from Amira & Louise (i hope i remembered thier names correctly) for afternoon tea! Both were so helpful and friendly!
Unfortunately not everybody was as smiley and friendly as these two but both and even though the afternoon tea was already paid for there seemed an issue with a member of our group (who is autistic) having the children's afternoon tea! However we were accommodated with different sandwiches and Amira and Louise made the experience enjoyable!
We went and had a few drinks at the bar afterwards where we were greeted by Anthony & Kailum, both were also very friendly and the drinks were lovely!
I am visiting again soon over the Christmas period, hopefully everyone will be as friendly and helpful as the four people mentioned in this review as they went above and beyond to make it a nice experience!
Thanks
We stayed for two nights
We stayed for two nights. The building, check in staff and bar were very efficient. Our problem was with the restaurant Maitre’d. We booked a table. No waitress took our order, no one was around to call. We had to get up and ask the Maitre’d to send someone. They took our order, after 40 minutes another waitress told us it had not been processed. We still waited and losing the will to live approached the Maitre’d’ again. Our food eventually arrived well over an hour after order. It was obvious from the very efficient waitress who tried to cover for the others mistakes that the Maitre’d was the problem. They would not charge the meal to the room. The Maitre’d had a massive tantrum and told us to walk out of the restaurant and not pay as he didn’t care. Obviously we paid. But the whole experience which cost £75.00 was the first I have every experienced. We are not naturally complainers and always very polite. The lift smelt strongly of cannibus, the mini fudge was unstocked, the duvet thick enough for the artic and the whole place seemed to be filled with wannabe wags.
Good…. quiet on the 6 floor, sir con good, very central, close to parking and worth it for my daughters wedding. More like a 3* on this occasion.
