Terrible customer service
Accidentally left a free trial going and forgot to cancel, contacted them after I got charged and they refused to refund even though I ever only read 1 article on there and all their emails have been going to my junk inbox unread. All other subscriptions always give you a refund during this grace period however they refused despite their website stating theres a 14 day refund after payment.
Slammed for £199
I was one that took the offer of £29 to read the Telegraph online for a year. It seemed a bargain compared to the paper price, so I accepted. There was no mention of any subscription. One year on, checking my bank, I find I was slammed for £199. Luckyily, I paid the initial £29 pounds via Paypal. Today is day twelve of a raised Paypal dispute, which of course has been ignored by the Telegraph, so will be fefunded later today. My advice to everyone is use Paypay, it makes a dispute much easier.
Very easy to find your self with money coming out of your account
Some how I accidentally joined a digital version of the telegraph when trying to read an article a few moths ago. This was clearly my mistake but I was shocked when suddenly £14.99 started coming on of my account on a monthly basis and it was very difficult to get rid off. A very expensive single article read a couple of moths ago, please be careful when reading the telegraph article’s online!
Thank you Simon.
I have just had my telephone subscription problem sorted out by Simon, a member of The Telegraph’s ‘digital team’ whose patience and understanding resolved my billing issue. I am very happy that I got him, when I called your help line and despite the complexities of my call, he managed to resolve my issues.
Thank you, Simon.

Sneaky Subscribing Tactics
Will not let you cancel by app, only by phoning in. I was 26th in the queue. They waste your time, asking you to enter you sub number when you call and then ask again in the call itself.
Auto renewed at full price without…
Auto renewed at full price without consent. seems they do this often. cancelled my subscription. £269 existing customer, £39 new customer, so much for loyalty.
The Telegraph is losing subscribers due…
The Telegraph is losing subscribers due to their own stupidity as their subscription prices at renewal are ridiculous and after many years of being a digital subscriber I gave up. This was at the end of 2025. Subsequently I took out a free years subscription to puzzles even though I hate puzzles , this was for my husband. Recently I decided to resubscribe to a digital subscription but this is no longer possible due to being subscribed to puzzles. Even after I unsubscribed to puzzles I still cannot get a full digital subscription as I still get puzzles for a year despite unsubscribing so that when I try to take out a full subscription I am told I am already a subscriber and to log in but logging in only gives me access to the puzzles - a nightmare mess up by the Telegraph and even though I emailed them about it today I got zero response. No wonder they have problems.
Positive resolution of subscription issue
My digital renewal went through on auto-renew (my mistake!) and the price rose from £29 to £199. I called the next day and spoke to an extremely pleasant and efficient customer services representative who told me I could have a full refund as it was within the 14 day cooling off period, and in fact then offered me a year for £39 (which I happily took). Five star response but four star review as it was a bit crazy increasing by more than six-fold!!
No prior notification for subscription charge
I signed up for a free trial and expected to receive a reminder email before the subscription converted to a paid plan, as most companies do! Unfortunately, no reminder was sent, and I was charged without any prior notification.
As soon as I noticed the payment, I contacted customer support straight away to explain the situation and request a refund. My request was rejected, which was very disappointing.
Afterwards, I just checked reviews here and saw that many other customers have experienced the exact same issue, and it seems they don't care.
Would not recommend based on this experience.
Utterly appalling
Utterly appalling. Joined for the free 3 months subscription. Tried to cancel, mis pressed a button and i ended up with an annual subscription wiry no way to cancel. Had to call customer services. The first number didn't work.
The 1 star is for Miriam the Asian Customer rep I spoke to who resolved it. But I shouldn't have had to call and wait to cancel.
Absolutely awful subscription service
Absolutely awful subscription service. It seems to be designed specifically to exploit and deceive its customers. The content is good but the commercial/business side is criminal. Devoid of ethics. 👎👎👎
Gutter Press
I took out a trail subscription as I thought there could be intelligent journalism to be had. How utterly disappointing it turned out to be.
With exceptions, the standard of writing is extremely poor, inconsiderate and biased to the extreme.
I would liken each article to a freshly laid turd over which the flies swarm in on the comments. Each day, a different variety of topics, are repeated, all with the same comments.
The agenda is clear and simple and profoundly nauseating. The backlash to this tabloid rag will come, but only when people realise that Reform will not work in Britain. The lies needed to sell this vision will come back to them. The disaster of Brexit will be repeated again and these boys writing will understand one day. If AI doesn't take their jobs. It could do no worse.
Stay clear of The Telegraph
Apparently i signed up for a subscription, which I didn't ! They started taking money which I've stopped and never logged into the paper. refusing to refund the first charge and I really don't care about the amount it's the principle that I didn't do this. I'll investigate with Apple, but just rubbish service and attitude
Shame on your so called jurnalism.....
Shame on you so called" jurnalism" .....more like bulling don't know how exactly are your "sponsors",but every day you publish something attacking diasabled people or children or about SEN family's or schools....do you not think people like us have enough to deal with...how you would feel one day you or your loved one get in same situation .....hope than you get the same judgemental treatment.....you attacking children and people how dont have voice and can't defend themselves..utterly disgusting
If I could give a zero for the…
If I could give a zero for the subscription service I would. I had an offer and the subscription said I could cancel whenever I wanted. Well that means if I go onto their website investigate how I can cancel and finally see that I have to ring a number. I am no 12 in queue. When I finally get to speak to someone they ask me they argue with me about how often I read it. When making it very clear I have no intention of renewing (mainly because their lack of support for people with disabilities and not researching the facts and also of the problem with cancelling it) they said they have to go through all the questions. I said whatever you say I want to cancel. I had to stay on the line for ten mins in total before I could leave and my blood pressure was worse for wear. Thanks Telegraph - never again will I pay you to read your words.
** additional. Telegraph reached out to me to Investigate this complaint and came back to me to say that it hadn’t been handled well. Although I have not renewed a subscription I have to give credit to a company that investigates and hold their hands up.

Relying on auto renewal to increase my subscription from £59 to £329. And not making it easy to cancel
Exemplary Customer Service
My experience of The Telegraph digital subscription customer service on only a few occasions necessary over the last ten years or so has been genuinely exemplary. My most recent contact on 9/2/26 and a shout out to Noralie and David for their understanding, patience and great help in mutually resolving a renewal issue resulting from operating subscriptions under two different email accounts, at no fault of the Telegraph.
The UK based staff are always polite, listen carefully, professional and have a friendly manner in mutually resolving issues. Just a piece of advice. If you are taking advantage of an introductory discounted subscription offer, once the account is activated, immediately turn off the subscription auto-renewal which is a default setting. However you can do this at anytime up to the renewal date. I have several digital media subscriptions and most operate this way. Also look out for the advance email notifying of the renewal date and new subscription charge. Obviously if you don’t accept that, just simply cancel on your account before the renewal due date to avoid any possible increase and auto-charging disputes down the line. Highly recommended, Unsolicited review.

I’ve been trying to cancel supposed free trial for weeks
I foolishly took out an online trial and cancelled it well within the cancellation period. To my surprise, I was still charged £14.99 per month and this charge is ongoing. They inform me that I had a parallel direct subscription with them, whereas the cancelled subscription was apparently taken out via Apple. I took out only one subscription, and as far as I am concerned, I cancelled it correctly. They also say that they will not resolve these matters by email, forcing me to spend unnecessary time on this matter. Trading standards, if they still exist, should be looking into these shady practices.
This is the reference: TS4010295. They have refused to refund the payment that I say was incorrectly taken after I had cancelled my trial.

I wonder if I can give a rating lower than 1. As noted by many it’s a subscription trap but I’d pay a penny if the news was well researched and true. The nail on the coffin was the complete misrepresentation of the Epstein files. This is worse than tabloids in fancy fonts!
If I could give zero stars I would
If I could give zero stars I would. Got an email to say annual subscription was increasing from £29 to £199!
Had to ring customer service to cancel my digital subscription. In 2026 how does Telegraph not have it set up for online cancellation.
I told the customer service rep repeatedly that I wanted to cancel and was not interested in any offers just process the cancellation. He then told me I was eligible for £39.99 renewal. I said I still wasn't interested please continue with the cancellation. He then argued with me about why I wasn't renewing. If I'd had any doubts about cancelling he made them disappear.
