Warning to Customers and Buyers About Spoonflower’s Traditional Wallpaper

As the owner of a wallpaper installation company, I want to leave an important warning: do not buy Spoonflower’s traditional (unpasted) wallpaper. Choose pre-pasted or adhesive wallpaper, but avoid the traditional one at all costs.

It’s astonishing how such a big brand does not conduct proper studies on the materials they choose to print their designs. I have a degree in advertising, and one of the basic subjects is understanding different types of paper before using them. And I can say with absolute certainty: Spoonflower’s traditional wallpaper is not suitable for applying with paste to walls.

Issues with the Material

First of all, this “paper” is not actual wallpaper. It contains fibers and certainly plastic in its composition, making it unsuitable for wallpaper application. Before selling a product, the company should test it properly to ensure it functions as intended.

The process of installing traditional wallpaper should be smooth. Normally, there are two proper methods:
1. Applying paste directly to the wall and then installing the wallpaper.
2. Applying paste to the wallpaper and waiting 3 to 5 minutes before installation.

However, Spoonflower’s manual instructs installers to wait 30 minutes per sheet! This is absurd. The excessive waiting time only leads to countless air bubbles and makes the process extremely frustrating, resulting in a terrible final outcome.

Conclusion

Spoonflower’s traditional wallpaper does not work. If you want a professional finish and a hassle-free installation process, choose pre-pasted or adhesive wallpaper. Do not waste your money on Spoonflower’s traditional wallpaper.

Being a first time peel and stick wallpaper user I reached out to Spoonflower when my wallpaper rolls developed some creasing at the inner end of the rolls when I unrolled them. It probably wouldn't have affected the paper, but I wanted to be guaranteed of that. Spoonflower responded to my email promptly and I had all new wallpaper in a week. I felt that they worked hard to make my experience a good one. Their product is amazing. I wanted to give them the credit they deserve because I feel people that have good experiences are less likely to review products and service, myself included.

Poor quality control. Worse customer service. Would not recommend this company to anyone. Despite Spoonflower's claims it was "outside their return window" this was not a return. This was asking them to fix their printing error which I was well within my time line to ask for under consumer protection laws and a dispute with the bank was found in my favor. Spoonflower was in the wrong and still refuses to take any sort of accountability for their mistake.

This was also not the only printing error I've experienced with this company. The quality control is absolutely awful.

Addressing Spoonflower's Response - As stated previously in my review, the bank found in my favor. Your "policies" cannot violate consumer protection laws or the policies you agree to when you accept that company's card as a payment method. You are obligated, by law, to provide the item as described, free of defect or damage and you failed to do so. You can keep making excuses all you want, but that doesn't change the law. This was not me wanting to return something because I just didn't like it, this was you providing a defective product.

If anyone else encounters this same problem, file a chargeback with your bank ASAP. Don't bother trying to work with Spoonflower.

They've been going downhill ever since they were bought out by Shutterfly. Communications have gotten worse, shipping times and price have both increased, their new design editor for artists is clunky and slow, and the new Plus membership is more expensive for less benefits.

I need a response to two emails sent on February 20th to Tyler B (Spoonflower help), where I asked several questions about my designs that are on Spoonflower and were later also placed on Shutterfly. I am still waiting.

I’d love to report that I love what came in my order (placed 2/6/25) but I’m still waiting for it to arrive despite the status saying it would be here 2/18/25. VERY DISAPPOINTED

Spoonflower have been my to go ‘Lead’ fabric for my quilt since 2020. I learn quilting while volunteering for a group of quilters who have been making quilt from re-purposed bedsheets, clothings etc. I was very interested and wanted to make quilt for my grand children. After much searching on line (not re purpose), I came across Spoonflower. I was very happy with my first order, the print is as showed. Spoonflower have varies fabric choices, colours, pattern/prints and suggestion for different projects. I was able to find print for the individual personality. The fabric is printed by order. I was very please and happy with the product. I am also very pleased with the services and quick response and resolution when there is an issue. Thank you and you can count on me as your regular customer.

Loads of emails but no mention of shipment.

This was my first experience with Spoonflower and I was doing a large one-off print that would be turned into a flag for a gift. Pre-printing help was great...everyone was helpful and very patient with my many questions and concerns. Best of all, the final printed piece was beautiful!

Unique design options. Delivered when promised. Would definitely buy from them again.

I love the amazing design offerings as well as the top-notch quality of the wallpaper. I've ordered 3 times now and have been pleased with the final results every time.

The quoted price for those outside of the US is not accurate. UPS adds on large extra fees for shipping and customs, in my case about 30% extra to the original price. Would not use again.

Spoonflower is making false claims about one of their fabrics. Over 18 months I bought many meters of Sports Pique fabric and made a wardrobe of travelling clothes. Spoonflower touts this fabric as athletic, moisture wicking, with soil-release finish for enhanced laundering. Plus a top rating of 5 to colourfastness and perspiration staining - meaning no perspiration staining. This is a lie. For example - I made a loose kaftan dress where the fabric only touches my skin at the neck and upper chest and lower arms. After wearing this dress 5 times it is stained brown on those areas and NOTHING CAN WASH IT OFF. All the light-coloured fabrics and clothes I made up are filthy brown with the staining bleeding through to the front of the fabric. 38 meters of light-coloured clothing is already ruined or will be after 5-6 wears of each item. - that cost me USD $961 plus freight from USA to Australia about USD $600 or more Plus the cost for s dressmaker who made half the clothes AUD $480.
They have offered me $111.32 compensation - they say its all their 'happiness ' policy will allow. They are continuing to sell this fabric with its utterly false claims.

The fabric design was a much larger scale than I expected from image shown. Print looks mediocre because of scale, which makes it very expensive, took longer for delivery than stated.

Spoonflower does not offer respond to my requests for a refund on very poor quality wallpaper swatches. I spent $45 on 5 swatches, expecting to like at least one and then order the wallpaper. Very poor print quality! No phone number for service. Forced to use chat bot or email. Very unhelpful with canned responses. DO NOT ORDER FROM SPOONFLOWER!

I ordered 5 wallpaper swatches in good faith that you were shipping me burlap and jute wallpaper swatches. Nowhere in your wallpaper web copy does it indicate that these are artist renditions of what textured wallpaper resembles. You sent me flat, low-quality, low-resolution color copies of what actual burlap and jute may resemble. Here are the Spoonflower website descriptions that misled me:

I am thoroughly unhappy with how your website deliberately misleads web visitors to believe they are ordering burlap and jute wallpaper samples. Instead, I paid $44.53 for five poor-color copies. I was scammed by Spoonflower.

Do not buy this Temu garbage. This is not a quality product. The fabric is cheap and scratchy, and the pattern isn’t aligned correctly. I wouldn’t wish this overpriced garbage on anyone. They won’t let you return anything, the customer service is awful and the no returns policies are hidden from you until after you purchase. BUYER BE WARE!!!! DO NOT PURCHASE!!

I order wallpaper for my rental in Florida three years ago. After the hurricanes hit this fall, I have to restore our house and in trying to reorder the wallpaper they are saying that cannot ship to my property management company on the island. They are saying their shipping company doesn't have the address as one by USPS. Yet, the buildings have been their since 1967. So, now I am not ordering from them anymore.

As much as I love the designs at
Spoonflower, the wallpaper is of poor quality and very difficult to install. And I am not a newbie at installing wallpaper. This was difficult, even following their specific directions, with correct tools. This paper tore easily and creased constantly and after many attempts the creases could not be eliminated no matter how much I tried resetting it. Given the price I will return to purchasing Graham and Brown, much higher quality and MUCH easier to install - three separate rooms within the past 6 months so I have good experience with it.

I needed a little less than 10 sq ft of vinyl wallpaper for a countertop project and found a beautiful design on spoonflower perfect for it. Because the vinyl wallpaper was only offered on 2'x1' swatches or 2'x27' rolls, I opted for 5 of the swatches, as the roll is expensive. The swatch quality appears great - the vinyl is thick and color/print was high quality and as expected. They were also rolled and shipped well protected, though they'll need flattening before use as they took a set to the roll. My only complaint being that the swatches do not line up vertically - as in each swatches is the exact same and the tops do not match the bottoms. It would be much preferred if the vinyl was offered in sizes in between a swatch and a 27' roll.
