Extremely disappointing and poorly handled rental application
I had a very disappointing experience with Roger Platt in Maidenhead while applying for a rental property.
I viewed the property on Saturday and, as my wife and I were very interested, I immediately asked for an offer form. I was told that it would be sent to me later that afternoon. However, I did not receive it until Monday, when the agent called to apologise and explained that they had been busy. The form was then emailed to me by one of their colleagues, and I completed and returned it almost immediately using “Reply All”.
On Tuesday morning, I received a call from the agency saying that they had received all the other applicants’ offer forms, but not mine. I explained that I had returned it almost immediately. After checking again, they suddenly confirmed that they had found it.
I then waited for an update, believing that the landlord was still considering all the applications. However, by Wednesday evening, I noticed that the property had apparently already been marked as “Let Agreed” on Rightmove since Monday.
This left me with the strong impression that my application may not have been properly considered alongside the other offers, possibly because the agency had initially overlooked my email. I cannot prove exactly what happened internally, but the timeline and the way the matter was handled were extremely concerning.
What disappointed me most was the lack of transparency. Had they simply admitted that the application process had already progressed or that my offer had been missed, I would at least have appreciated the honesty. Instead, I was left waiting for a decision that may already have been made.
The issue is not simply that my offer was unsuccessful. I fully understand that landlords can choose another applicant. The problem is the poor communication, apparent lack of organisation, and the possibility that my completed offer was not presented fairly or in time.
Based on this experience, I would not trust Roger Platt Maidenhead to handle an important rental application properly, and I would not recommend them.
