we had 7 Residence 9 widows fitted with casement windows where one of the pair open and the other is fixed. all the open ones let in so much rain that we have to put towels on the sills. Even washing the windows causes leaks. The suppliers have been back twice to adjust them but they still leak. The fixed ones have been "sealed" with silicone to try to fix the draughts but still whistle in high winds. Have reported them to the supplier again

We had over £25k of Residence R9 windows and doors fitted and everything was fine until we noticed last year our Residence French doors had dropped by appx 1CM. The Firm who installed no longer traded and we therefore contacted Residence for help but were told it was an installation issue and nothing to do with them. We therefore arranged for another Installation Company to look at the doors and they confirmed the install was fine and it was a Residence manufacturing issue. We contacted Residence again and again no help as they contract the manufacture to various firms and basically they didn't want to know. After much investigation over a number of months we traced the Manufacturer who was contracted to Residence and they conducted a full survey on the doors at a cost of appx £100 confirming the installation was fine and there was a fault in the manufacture but it could be repaired at a cost of around £300. Although the installation was in 2017 all Residence products come with a 10 year guarantee (per website) and this was one of the reasons we went for Residence in the first place. We had the work done but Residence will not meet any of the associated cost even though it is a manufacturing issue with one of their products and they advertise a 10 year guarantee. Their response is that the warranty is with the installer ? which is most unhelpful as this is not an installation issue and indeed the installer no longer trades anyway.
We are therefore left with a bill due to a manufacturing issue on a Residence product and the only advice we have from Residence is "claim on your house insurance or bear the costs yourself as general maintenance of the product" !!
As a customer it seems to us that the 'guarantee' is completely worthless and the product quality dubious.

It may be that we have been unlucky but looking at other reviews on here it seems that others have had similar experiences. We certainly would not buy a Residence product again as they are happy to promote, market and sell a product but offer no help at all when something goes wrong.

Had Residence R9 French doors and a single door fitted a few years ago. The French doors are a total disaster. The hinges continually move and the doors become almost impossible to close and lock. The local fitter gave up and didn't want to know. A Residence engineer came out and new hinges were fitted but the problem still remains. We've tried to contact Residence again directly but they don't want to know now. We are now reluctant to use the French doors daily as they are so difficult to close and lock. They are essentially not fit for purpose and we would strongly advise against Residence French doors. We believe they come with a 10 year warranty but that appears to be worthless.

Residence patio doors fitted 2017-had to be replaced in 2020 as they were warped. Since then nothing but problems as needed a central support bar fitting to ensure they closed flush with out it I could push (slightly) on the door & they showed daylight. Now if just closed, they have an incredible draft, if locked 'just' a slight draft. In summer (South facing) very difficult to lock. it was suggested by the fitter that i sprayed cold water on them!!! So in short patio doors that are not draught proof & need cooling in Summer! Steer clear, avoid at all cost!

Do not buy windows from this company window bars keep warping and falling off been complaining constantly for over 3 years and no response Supply their own none standard colours but only supply a limited amount of trim so you have to use other make which doesn't match exactly.

i am here to re-iterate what every one else has said! Do not be fooled by their glossy brochure and flashy website. We built our Georgian Farmhouse with very fussy attention to detail and R9 came very highly recommended. However, the georgian windows and doors are atrocious! The georgian bars move all over the place, the curtains mover with the draught and I can stand upstairs with the windows closed and listen to a conversation happening outside! I love to hear the birds in the morning but with double glazing i expected to have to open my windows first! If you want the greatest quality windows and doors for your money, then my best advice is - DO NOT BUY RESIDENCE 9

Installed R9 cottage style windows. Looked great but the noise from our busy road was appalling. I phoned R9 who said the installer had used the wrong glass. Back to the installer. After a few weeks they agreed to replace the glass for thicker glazing. Big big mistake. They cut the glass out of its frame - frames scratched. Hardly any difference in noise reduction. Now glazing misting up. I called R9 who tell me their glazing is bonded in at the factory and cannot be cut out in the way I described. I now have grey chalk like deposits in the centre of the windows with no way of cleaning it away due I understand to the seals being broken. The installer says it’s not their problem. R9 say it’s not their problem and Fensa aren’t worth the paper their guarantee comes on. Avoid R9 at all cost

Here I am again, a year later from my last bad review of Residence 9 Georgian windows and things haven't changed. More bars have fallen off. Still waiting for the replacement bars which are supposed to be stronger and less likely to warp and fall off when the sun hits them.

Lovely looking windows but because the installation isn't managed by them it's 50/50 when it comes to after care service. Their preferred suppliers still get a credit on their website even if no aftercare was provided. R9 need to take ownership of who's a decent fitter

After much market research I chose Residence R9 windows for a large project, for a new build home.
I first became concerned when delivery became delayed, we understand the challenges of the pandemic but the job has been delivered piecemeal over 5 months and is still incomplete.
Windows were delivered in incorrect sizes and had to be exchanged with many excuses for delay. A number arrived on site without glazing bars which were put on afterwards. The glazing bars are mostly loose and some falling off before the property has even been occupied.
A large balcony window is leaking and has damaged newly laid carpet you can feel air blowing under the window where an airgap has been left.
Of 33 windows almost all have loose glazing bars or some other defect.
Unfortunately at this stage it has been difficult to get meaningful support from Residence to help rectify the situation.
You are caught between Residence the main manufactures of the system who are CWG and the installer. I regret bitterly selecting Residence windows for my new build.

I chose R9 as I was building a kitchen extension and wanted something robust and efficient for the main window. They were fitted by a recommended installer so all good but....
One of the windows had been fabricated incorrectly so that the central vertical bar was offset and the vent cover was missing;
On being replaced the lock broke off;
One other window’s fitting (mouse tail design) started flaking (so not cast iron!).
The installer returned repeatedly as quickly to fix the issues - credit to them - but R9 have a serious quality control issue.
I expect further failures to follow.
In sum avoid the R9 range - unreliable and not worth their considerable cost.

We had all windows and doors replaced in our house at the end of 2017 with R9s. As we’re in a conservation area we went down the path of retaining the property’s character. Several quotes and a lot of research later we settled on R9 given the promise of new technology delivering aesthetic and practical value. Unfortunately they have been nothing but trouble.

First off, there is no responsibility in the chain. R9 claim to only ‘design’ the window system where a manufacture only puts them together to a specification and the installer, who is who us as the end user have our recourse to, only installs them. So when things go wrong who fixes it? In our case it’s still rumbling on.

As with other reviews on here we had a raft of design differences in Windows that required further visits to correct. We also had a raft of failures including faulty glass, rusting hinges, stuck doors, broken handles (these are particularly cheaply made, locking the windows occasionally breaks the lock?!?) and last but not least the ongoing saga of Georgian bars both warping in the sun or coming away from the double sided tape. Some were replaced in 2018. Some were simply turned around so that they could warp upwards (always up to form, ironically, a smile) where some where replaced with gaps now on show. Summer 2019 same if not worse again. Can we get them out to remedy this with a better solution? No. We started our last request for correction in autumn 2019 and got almost nowhere by the time Covid hit. Communication is poor with the installer but I believe the responsibility sits across R9 and the manufacturer given it’s obviously design or materials failing.

Anyway, these are nice from far but far from nice. It’s a real shame as they’re a great solution waiting to happen.

We went for residence light oak french windows,
close up they look like they've just been covered in Fablon sticky back plastic,
and look a bit cheap and tacky, but in other ways they are just like real oak they stick and won't open.
Look at the windows for your selves but don't get talking to the sales person, what they won't tell you is the doors are rubbish.

Despite the industry closing for COVID 19, Residence have gone above and beyond to find a solution that supports our windows being installed prior to the warehouses opening back up. By doing this, it means our rebuild project can continue and more importantly other trades that are reliant on our windows being installed can continue to work and be paid through this trying time in our lives. Hopefully Residence gets their business back and open very soon.

These windows look fabulous on our 1850 Cotswold Stone Cottage. We have really noticed a difference in our heating bills.Our installers Stroud Windows did an amazing job fitting them and we didn't need to redecorate anywhere.

I am so happy I decided to have R9 windows fitted in my house!

I replaced my old wooden windows with Residence 9 and I couldn't be happier. The grained finish makes my windows look indistinguishable from wood and it even fooled my neighbours before I told them (they are also considering getting R9's now).

I also couldn't have been more pleased with the customer service, I didn't know much about windows but after calling their head office they answered all my questions and helped me find a local installer. They went above and beyond by sending me a sample of profile when I said which colour I was interested in. Overall they are a great company!

Fantastic windows! So many people have commented on how much better the house looks and we've already noticed a difference in heat retention from our previous timber windows.

I contacted Residence Collection directly after seeing them at a friend's house and they were really helpful in putting me in contact with a local installer who went through everything step by step. Highly recommend.

Fantastic windows, we had Residence 9 in our last property as we had replaced timber and have now got one of their new systems Residence 7 in our new house as we wanted to replaced ‘normal pvc’ and it made such a difference!

This standard requires that the tested window WILL PASS BUILDING REGULATIONS, my Residence 9 window WILL NOT , but are still a KITEMARKED PRODUCT.

I can confirm that we hold a Kitemark license for our Residence Products, we have tested and passed both PAS24 and BS6375-1/2. All our fabricators have access to our test reports which they are able to provide the details to their installers.
My installation of of 21 windows and two double door sets and side lights, were ordered in june 2018 the fourth set of both double doors were not fitted till october when made, the job cannot be signed off as it will not meet building control, FAKE safety calculations have been issued by Residence 9 / U70 to over come this. What is required ALL windows need replacing and made to the agreed advertised standard, the same standard that was tested to get to the KITEMARK standard. Residence Collection REFUSE to enforce THEIR STANDARDS, This is the standard we all paid such a HIGH PRICE TO PURCHASE. I believe this review is current until my job is complete.

It does not do what it says on the tin. It very clearly looks like plastic on the inside and the detailed chamfering just doesn’t sit flush and there’s loads of awkward joins. The white frame doesn’t sit flush in the joins and we had to get the manufacturers out to replace and fix £40,000 worth of windows bar 3.
Even after replacement and fixings they still just look plastic with lots of gaps for grime to get in to. I’m so utterly disappointed with these windows and the cost!!
The manufacturers have made them look as good as they’re going to get and they have improved them but still, the windows are my one huge regret of this particular refurb project. It’s not the manufacturers fault that the actual product is great in theory but the reality is far from what they are selling.
If you’re going for sash windows... beware. The top and bottom pieces of plastic which create your horizontal lines we’re so far out that some windows had to be replaced all together.
I wish I had gone for VEKA windows which have less detail on the inside but when mechanically jointed, fit together flush and they do look just like wood from the inside and outside. You can get them in the paiswick grey AND they are significantly cheaper AND are conservation friendly!! I had them on another project but this one was a bigger budget.
I thought R9 were the best on the market. They claim to be but the real product is poor and isn’t value for money.
It’s also worth noting that I contacted R9a month or so ago and I have had zero response.
