There was no parking at hospital and this lot had a sign with no information on what to do, so I called the hospital and told me I need to download this app. I options for 1 hour @ $5+ and $10+ for 2 hours. Well, I paid for 2 hours and only got what was left of the last hour which was about 7 minutes, so I got an hour and 7 minutes, which started when I was still in my car making sure everything went though. Since the SCAM parking lot was so far away I could spend 40 minutes with my dying loved one so I could get back to my car before my time expired. THIS APP IS A SCAMMING POS, SHAME ON YOU, YOU MF.

J’ai eu le même souci. Comme je le faisais avant … j’ai mis plus sachant qu’on ne paie que ce que l’on consomme …. Donc 2h.

Paybyphone ist die technisch schlechteste Parkapp/ Anwendung von allen, die ich kenne und nutzte. Das waren bereits einige! Schlecht erreichbar, keine gute Darstellung der Parkvorgänge und auch die Reklamation ist schwierig und die Reaktion unkulant und nicht kundenorientiert.

It is impossible to get any assistance through the chatbot. It continually refuses to connect to a human agent, repeatedly asks for the same information, and then offers no resolution before directing users back to the Help Centre they are already using.

A support system that traps customers in a loop without providing access to an agent and stupid AI!

Edit - Today, 08/09/2026, I received a communication from Trustpilot requesting further information and stating that my review may be removed or marked as false if I do not provide it.

I would like to make it clear that my review is genuine and truthful. I do not see any reason to provide additional personal details, including my telephone number. The information already provided clearly explains the circumstances and should be sufficient.

I parked my car at East Ham a month ago and tried to use the pay by phone app and it kept saying that there is a technical error. I tried calling the pay by phone number which didn’t work. I was able to pay for the parking only after 20 mins after it was parked. I had a PCN notice and I challenged it but no luck. It is because of the technical glitch I ended up paying £160.

The app keeps locking me out. It doesn’t remember the card I have registered to make payment. While trying to enter details the app is obscured by the phone key pad meaning you can’t see what you’re entering. Utterly useless app.

Fascinating to read all the reviews blaming PayByPhone for the prices charged by local councils for parking or for lack of mobile signal.

So far it has always worked for me. The coverage is pretty good as PbF are ipart of the National Parking Platform. The app is clunky to use although some problems with the map can be down to the car park operator providing incorrect coordinates. Even so it can often be easier to walk to a ticket machine to pay with cash or card.

The lack of a shortcut to pick regular locations is annoying but my big complaint is the SMS notifications There is no way to set this as a one off for a particular session. If you set it for one session that becomes the default for all future sessions until you go back to settings to disable it

Die App funktioniert an sich gut, aber wehe man benötigt mal den Support. Wollte meine E-Mail Adresse ändern, aber der Verifikations-Code kommt nicht an (ja, die Adresse ist korrekt geschrieben und funktioniert. Ja, ich habe mehrfach auf "erneut senden" geklickt. Auf der Hilfeseite wird man aufgefordert den Chatbot zu benutzten. Der Chatbot sagt entweder er habe keine Lösung für mein Problem, oder dass er mir leider keinen Kontakt zum Support herstellen kann. Was nutzloseres habe ich schon lange nicht mehr gesehen, und ich komme aus der Branche. Faktisch gibt es also keinen Support. Man stelle sich vor man hat hier ein echtes Problem....

You have designed a system that prevents people getting a refund by obstructing communication.

If you're parking in Liverpool Do Not Use This App! It will restrict your parking making you have to pay multiple times through the day at different locations stating "traffic restrictions". Two different traffic wardens told me it's not true, it's the app and it's rubbish. They advised me to delete it and use JustPark or Ringo. Don't wait until it happens to you, preempt any problems and change now!

downloaded the app that day. I thought I had paid for parking. I received a fine as the payment must have not gone through. I wanted to appeal and requested the information to show I downloaded the app and tried to pay and enter card details. Can only speak to a chatbox and no one has responded to the email. As I have no evidence I can not appeal,

Sneaky charges for text notifications that I don’t want and difficult navigation to remove them

Die App funktionierte nicht, habe sie in Düsseldorf Lörick extra installiert, konnte nicht zahlen und nun habe ich ein Knöllchen! Bin total verärgert, denn es war eindeutig ein technischer Fehler. Es kam die Meldung, ich solle den Support kontaktieren...geht's noch?? Am Unterbacher See läuft alles ohne Probleme mit Kennzeichen und Kartenzahlung. Nie wieder Paybyphone.

They charged me twice for my parking and the only way to communicate is via AI. No way to upload photo of double charge. NO way of speaking to a human. Be careful using them.
Received my money back. Unsure whether this was because I went to my bank. Thank you. Would be helpful if it was clearer how to talk with a human

My daughter is currently in Maugersbury Road car park, somewhere in the Cotswolds and still trying to pay for parking. When she arrived there was no signal so she couldn't download the app, so she phoned me with the details and aske me to do it.

First I tried the website, got as far as entering all my credit card details then no further. No button, "enter" does nothing, no error message.

So I tried the 0800 phone number and went all the way through their tedious key pad data entry system only to have my credit card transaction rejected at the very end. I tried with another card with identical results. I've no idea why it failed, but I'd now wasted 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back trying to use their broken system. And, of course, there's no way to talk to a human. All I could do is phone my daughter back and report failure and she will have to try and find a signal somehow.

What does concern me is that I've given this bunch of incompetents details of two credit cards. I don't trust them one iota to keep them safe or delete them. I am also not happy that my daughter may incur a penalty due to the delays not of her fault.

The whole thing is set up so that the unfortunate users fail and they collect their PCNs.

A day later

I notice that PayByPhone have responded to my review, but it's just the same AI generated response they post to every comment. A bunch of platitudes.

Surely, after about 1000 1 star reviews, 95% of the total, they don't need any more information or feedback. All they need is to fix the multiple problems with their operation and provide a human operator who can sort things out in real time rather than wait till a PCN has been issued and then reject the appeals.

This company is just about as close as you can get to a scam whilst just remaining legal.

There is no reply 7 days after I reached out to the chatbot AGAIN (the link provided in the reply I got on TrustPilot from their team on 3 Jun). I got charged a wrong fee, and NO support ticket number, NO real person contacted after reporting multiple times in PayByPhone's chatbot. The chatbot is a scam. And there is no way to contact real support.

Grubby business. They appear to be disabling 'pay by card' at my station Redbridge. So people who have neither the skills nor memory to pay online (nigh on impossible on the central line) get 'fined'. A nasty business.

Disgraceful bunch of crooks, customer service non existent. Tenby multi storey carpark have tried claiming a refund for incorrect car details input but not a dicky bird. Several emails later have heard nothing back, not even an acknowledgement of receipt.

Auf jeder Bankabbuchung. Leider ist dadurch die Zuordnung zur PayByPhone App unmöglich. Und es wird offensichtlich, dass man hierüber auch den Support nicht in Kenntnis setzen kann, da dieser nicht erreichbar ist. Eine App ohne Support ist aus der Zeit gefallen.
Abgesehen von diversen fehlenden Standard-Features, die dringend in die App gehören, die aber einfach nicht eingebaut werden! Schade, die Konkurrenz entwickelt ständig weiter und ihr ignoriert seit Jahren das Kundenfeedback und den Stand der Technik. Ausserdem scheint ihr eure Entwickler richtig mies zu behandeln, anders kann ich mir die “Sunny Isles Beach Parking”-Rache nicht erklären.

Grundsätzlich positiv, da man ja im Voraus nie weiß, wie lange man parken möchte / muss; der entsprechende Parkplatz wird per Standortfreigabe gefunden, Nachzahlung per App möglich, zuviel gezahlte Parkgebühr wird nach dem STOPPEN zeitverzögert erstattet.
Einzig die hohe extra Gebühr (in meinem Fall 0,49€) ist ärgerlich, aber wenn ich es richtig verstanden habe, legen die Städte und Gemeinden diese fest??
