6 months to respond to Tustpilot says it all

It has taken 6 months to reply to my complaint . Enough said.
My complaint about East London Roofing Services leaving buiilding debris in the gutters causing gem to overflow and refusing to come out. Update - my down pipe to water butt and drain was blocked, causing gutter to over flow again. The builder found a 8" blockage of rotted leaves - in the middle was a piece of roofing tile.

I submitted a serious complaint to the…

I submitted a serious complaint to the NFRC regarding accreditation and certification claims made by a roofing contractor.
My evidence pack included written confirmation from Trading Standards that several accreditation logos used by the contractor were never held at any time, despite being displayed publicly for over ten years.
Trading Standards found that consumers believed they were engaging an accredited company when they were not.

I sent the NFRC two separate emails with the full evidence pack and requested only an acknowledgement of receipt.
As of today, there has been no acknowledgement, no confirmation, and no indication that the matter is being reviewed.

This is not an isolated issue. NFRC’s public record shows a long-standing pattern of similar behaviour:

Multiple reviewers report that NFRC failed to acknowledge complaints or took months to respond.

Several reviewers state that NFRC appeared more focused on protecting member contractors than investigating evidence.

Public forums and consumer sites document years of errors in NFRC listings, weak vetting, and poor follow-through.

Complaints relating to NFRC’s CPS/CompetentRoofer scheme show the same pattern of slow communication and poor handling.

NFRC’s public claims of “rigorous vetting” and “high standards” do not align with these documented experiences — nor with mine.

Warning to consumers:
Do not assume that NFRC membership guarantees standards, oversight, or accountability.
Their history of poor communication, weak complaint handling, and reluctance to challenge members — even when Trading Standards has already issued findings — raises serious questions about the protection offered to the public.

NFRC CPS WILL LIE TO PROTECT THEIR ROOFERS

NFRC CPS Complaint Handling: Five Months of Delays and Alleged Dishonesty
I raised a formal complaint with NFRC CPS about this negligence, and my experience suggests they are happy to cover for their members.

Long Delay: It took the NFRC CPS five months (November 2024 to April 2025) to finally respond to my formal complaint.

The Response: The response came from Lynn Conetta (Operations Assistant), who claimed Technical Manager Alan Skeer had written it but had left shortly thereafter. Alan Skeer is still listed as the Technical Manager on the NFRC CPS site as at end of November 2025.

Alleged Lies and Deception:

The NFRC CPS lied by stating they had never received any complaints about Richardson Roofing, a claim contradicted by another public Google review.

The response, sent by Lynn Conetta, acted as if the NFRC BRCC covers Cavity Insulation and Windows as "roofing works." This is false, as UKAS has confirmed NFRC CPS is only for roof coverings and so the works were not properly certified by their member Richardson Roofing.

The response was clearly dishonest and I believe it was not written by a legitimate technical manager. The fact that the NFRC CPS allegedly has no technical manager now, but still lists Alan Skeer, is misleading for anyone submitting a complaint.

Unacceptable Conclusion: NFRC CPS simply stated that because Richardson Roofing offered to "make the work good," I was obliged to allow them the option to remedy—despite the illegal nature of the work and their initial negligence to fix the Windows and their outright refusal to remedy the missing cavity insulation.

In my experience, NFRC CPS is facilitating illegal building works and they are happy to lie to cover the issues caused by their contractors misusing certifications.

They Protect The Roofers, Not The Customer

From our experience, if you're looking for a professional, responsible roofer it seems best to avoid NFRC members.

We hired an NFRC roofer to urgently investigate significant water ingress to our period property following storms in autumn last year. We had to source scaffolding, including a pulley and bucket, ourselves. They quoted for replacing slates and lead flashing, which they said would fix the issue.

Fast forward less than a year and more autumn storms resulted in further, catastrophic water ingress. We called the roofer and they sent round their Contracts Manager, who inspected their work by waving his mobile phone out of a window and taking a few snaps. His opinion was (of course) that the work they had carried out the year before was not the issue, and they would have to pull up a floor to investigate further.

We asked if there was a less destructive way to investigate the issue, but never received an answer.

Meanwhile the storms and water ingress continued all week, resulting in our bedroom ceiling collapsing and a call to the Fire Brigade at 2am. It was a miracle that none of our family were seriously injured. Water damage was incurred through three floors of our property, leading to months of remedial work and significant financial cost.

A different roofer we subsequently hired was of the opinion that the NFRC roofer had overcharged us for the 'remedial' work a year before, and had done nothing to prevent water ingress, as we had asked.

We complained to the NFRC, but it was evident that they would do very little to further our claim and everything in their power to protect their member. Whilst admitting he wasn't a lawyer, the NFRC's representative advised that we would not have a claim under contract law. We beg to differ.

The only benefit to NFRC membership appears to be that, as a member, poor, overpriced, shoddy and inadequate workmanship will be protected against any claim by the consumer.

Whether there is a claim in law or not, there wasn't even a glimmer of a sense that the NFRC had any moral obligation or responsibility towards customers who felt duped into employing one of its members, with disastrous consequences.

In response to the NFRC's response below, we refute their blinkered suggestion that the contractors were not allowed to inspect the works. As stated above their member's contracts manager did come round and wave his mobile phone out of the window to take some photos of the roofing works, then showed no further interest in following up the situation and 'ghosted' us. If we could give no stars we would, because we are genuinely appalled that the NFRC, which promotes their members as 'trustworthy', did absolutely nothing to mediate in this disaster and did everything to protect their member rather than the customer.

In order for the NFRC member contractor to be able to review the work and assess any liability they need to be able to have access to the site; and then be given the opportunity to remedy the situation if it is agreed they are at fault (as per consumer law). NFRC’s understanding is that so far that access to the site has not been granted.

NFRC take all complaints against members very seriously and will always act impartially to ensure our strict code of practice is followed by our members.

Inpartial advice for freeholders

As a group of freeholders responsible for a property, we wanted an impartial inspection to tell us whether we required the roof to be properly repaired or renewed. We were directed by the "Help Desk" to contact their contractors who obviously wouldn't be impartial, you need a new roof.
We were told to contact RICS for a survey.
Therefore for the dismissive help from the "Help Desk" we give one star. Poor service from the National Federation of Roofing contactors.

Unfortunately NFRC do not currently offer nor have the resources to undertake on-site inspection on behalf of property owners prior to any roofing work commencing. As you were advised, RICS do offer this as a paid-for service and that would be your recommended course of action.

We do keep this constantly under review and it may be something that NFRC is in a position to offer in the future.

A waste of time...

I had need to complain about a contractor that I’d found on their website. The North-West Regional Manager decided to ignore the standard complaints procedure and deal with the matter himself, causing more problems.
He then ignored emails and lost his temper in a couple of responses. He hadn’t any clue of investigating or about being fair and objective and demonstrated a complete lack of knowledge towards contractual matters (although stated that’s all he would investigate).
The only positive side of NFRC is the help desk. They were the complete opposite of him, professional, polite and efficient.
Fortunately I managed to resolve the issue directly with the company (I believe because both parties were fed up with the botched job by the Regional Manager.)

unreliable website information

having had 2 word of mouth roofers attend the property and claim to have done work which I was disappointed with or not done at all I decided to get credited roofers.

did a web search and found this company that sopposingly have listed credited companys.

having searched my area and the site produced about 7 contractors.

I started to checked the companies as I needed to have 3 come and do estimates for me.

I have access to a credit checking agency so when I checked some of the companies listed as limited , were not in fact limited.

I think one was in receivership and other anomalies.

I was only able to get one that seem legitimate.

I contacted to federation and emailed them the list I extracted from their website as was agreed with them for them to check .

then then emailed me back saying I should contact the area manager. I though they were going to take responsibility to that posted on their site and not start playing pass the parcel.....

here is the reply received .

I WROTE------
I spoke with you on the phone this morning and you agreed I should pass this to your email.
Why are you now not taking ownership and referring it to whoever.

Why is it back to the customer client (me) to start passing it around.

All you need to is forward it with a covering email to the relevant department.

Do these really stand for quality.
How is it I have used these companies and they don’t translate to what they claim to be.

I simply need a reputable roofer in this instance and you claim to be a governing site when my simple check have found inaccuracies they you are not prepared to deal with but the pass but buck.
