Not the best for electonic circuit diagnosis
A gate release which is contolled by an electonic circiut board is outside the expertise of your electricians.

All staff were great
The administrative staff are polite and well versed in the technicalities so was able to organise the right service for me. The staff sent to the house were very efficient, conscientious and helpful. They were looking if there was anything else they could assist us with whilst they were there, to ensure a full offering of service.

beware of Mcintosh Electrical
A few months ago we noticed that the lights in the living room started dimming themselves out after 10 -15 min from the time we'd switch them on. Within a week or two they were gone completely.
I called Mcintosh electrical as they did some small jobs for us in the past and are our locals, explained what happened with the lights and was given the time for the electrician' visit.
The two young gentlemen arrived, One electrician took a screw driver literally out of his pocket, removed the cover from the switch, pulled out tiny object and said that the problem might be in the "dimmer".
While he was doing that the other young man -for some reason- was wondering around the house and then just disappeared (I understood he went to the car);
The electrician who was looking at the switch' issue went outside and brought a new dimmer, put it into the switch, checked that the lights were working and left.
The whole job took about 10 - 15 minutes.
a few days later i receive an invoice for $405.85.
it included: Call out and first hour fee of $265.00, dimmer itself $103.00.
In the past Mcintosh's call out fee was $90.00 - as per the invoices that are still avail in my computer.
- I was not provided with a quote or fee estimate for the services before they were performed.
- I was not made aware before being invoiced for the fees that they have a call out fee of $265 + GST.
Had I been made aware of it, I would not have agreed.
A call out fee of $265 during ordinary business hours for work that is not emergency work is materially above market standard rates for electrical work in metropolitan Sydney.
Our concern is that Mcintosh Electricals might be putting in a difficult position pensioners and/or elderly by charging them a massive unaffordable by some call-out fee for a minuscule job (such as dimmer or a light bulb replacement) without notifying them about astronomical charges during booking.
Very disappointed.

Dear Larissa,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While we always welcome customer input, we feel it’s important to address several misleading and inaccurate claims made in your review.
Firstly, we pride ourselves on being completely transparent about our service fees. Unlike many of our competitors, we are always happy to clearly outline our call-out charges, labour rates, and material costs when asked, and we encourage all customers to request this information before booking, as many do.
Our professional service fee of $265 (plus GST) covers travel, administration, and up to the first hour on site, regardless of how long the job takes. This is industry standard for licensed and insured electrical services in Sydney and reflects the quality, compliance, and professionalism we bring to every job. The dimmer we supplied and installed was priced at $103 – again, well within standard market rates.
We’d also like to clarify an important detail that was omitted from your review. When the cost of your job was queried, we promptly addressed the concern, as we do with all our clients, and issued a 10% goodwill credit, reducing the invoice by over $40 to a total of $365.27 inc gst
This gesture was made despite the work being completed properly, safely, and to your satisfaction.
We also note that the work was completed over six months ago, in March 2025, so it is surprising to only now receive a one-star review, based on a misconception on service pricing.
More seriously, we strongly refute your claim that McIntosh Electrical is “overcharging pensioners.” This is an entirely false, defamatory, and inappropriate accusation. We have many longstanding "pensioner" clients who trust us and are extremely satisfied with the high-quality work and fair pricing we consistently provide. Our reputation has been built over many years on honesty, integrity, and excellent customer service values we extend to every client, regardless of their age or background.
We understand that cost can be a concern, which is why we encourage all clients to ask about pricing prior to booking. We are always happy to provide information on fees in advance as many of our satisfied clients will confirm.
We hope this clears up any misunderstanding, and we remain committed to providing honest, reliable, and high-quality service to all our customers.
Sincerely,
Jenny McIntosh
