The help there, those who greet you, register you are wonderful, could not be more helpful. Trying to reach your doctor by phone or portal is completely impossible. I am in the middle of a crisis concerning a refill and have not heard from the doctor over 2 months. The situation is scary and no contact.

I have had to go to Mayo for 8 years, and it is overpriced, under-delivered care in almost every case. Here is my assessment after this time:
1. They are increasingly understaffed at all levels. Many of the providers and workers are rude and socially inept.
2. They are relying on tech to fill in the gaps for their lack of staff. You will be on hold a lot, asked to fill out redundant surveys, and still be unable to get the care you need. Mayo wants to collect your data, analyze it, and sell it (de-identified) to the highest bidder. Providing health care is not as big of a priority for Mayo--your data is.
3. Their specialists will order tons of expensive tests, and fail to look at them for answers. If it is not cut and dry, they will not take the time for you. Especially avoid neurology, GI, or any of their women's care specialties.
4. I feel uncomfortable at how they treat families and tween or teen care. My daughters have noticed how everything implies that parents are dangerous abusers, while the providers are portrayed as the safe and caring adults that kids can talk to about birth control or questions about sexuality, etc. I understand why this is (abuse, privacy), but it feels a little "cringe," as my teen would say. When they turn 13, parents can't access their kids online portal, for protective reasons, which means it becomes that much harder to make an appointment. Do you really think my teens are going to look at their tests? In my family, one daughter gave me permission to access her portal, and we filled out forms...3 times! And, I still don't have access. I told her that she can make her own appointments now (haha). I still have to pay though...in a separate bill addressed to her.
5. It's not popular to diss their breast/mammo clinic, but I am not a fan. I have gotten called back four out of five times for mammograms, only to be told the same thing each time--you probably have some new normal cysts. Now, you want to have an overcautious provider reading your mammogram, but I get the feeling each time that the radiologists or docs have not looked at any other past mammograms or records beyond the previous year, if they even saw that one. Each time, it feels like some sort of doomsday scenario, and then it turns out that just like the last time, this testing was a waste of time. This last time, they found a whole bunch of stuff, and said it was fine. I got my bill about 1 hour later. That, I suppose, is the worst part about it--going through testing that shows that your boob now looks like a balloon filled with a sky full of constellations where it used to only look like a balloon filled with Orion, and then be told it is nothing, and handed a big-a**ed bill one hour later. Yes, the needs of the patient truly come first in this case.
6. You will not be able to get support or testing for your child if they have any problems (ADHD or autism), unless it is obvious or severe. Go elsewhere.
7. If your kid has some allergies, they will probably blame you as the parent, or suggest it is is psychosomatic. I have heard many parents experience this in our area, and they go elsewhere.
8. Did I mention their testing is overpriced? Neurology wants you to have their expert, amazing (students) doctors read their super high tech MRIs for $6000, while you can get an MRI on the same machine elsewhere for $800. Your doctor won't look at it anyway for more than a minute, so just go elsewhere.
9. If you have an amorphous problem like a hormone imbalance or autoimmune condition, just go elsewhere. From the way the doctors talk about it, they seem to think most patients with such problems are nuts, and because they are by-the-book, anything not within their very narrow guidelines is not treated.
10. THEY HAVE NO URGENT CARE IN ROCHESTER MN. This is the worst for families, who constantly need it for their kids or selves. It can be too challenging to get in to see a PCP who will probably tell you to try OTC treatments (bill one hour later).

In short, if you have anything other than a clear cut myocardial infarction, just go somewhere else.

I have medicaid. Mayo Clinic doesn't accept Medicaid.

Mayo Clinic values profit over people.

Stay far away from a health provider who treats the patient like a mill machine. They are thorough because the more things that could go wrong in a person's body they use against the patient in order to try and milk their insurance or pockets dry.

The Mayo Clinic has some of the most unhelpful staff. Patients seeking care just get the run around. This is so sad.

As a Mayo, Rochester patient for over 15 years, they’ve saved by my leg, and my life (at least once), When no one else would dare operate on an infected prosthetic knee, they took it on with incredible success. I admire their multiple doctor approach, with an disease specialist’s office right next to the orthopedic surgeon’s.
I know staff shortages since Covid 19 make getting surgeries or appointments take longer. I suspect new patients may take even longer, BUT THIS IS THE CASE AT EVERY FACILITY I have dealt with since the Pandemic( at least 6).
I’ve had over 30 operations (a “train wreck” as a non-mayo surgeon diagnosed me). I usually get at least one local Pacific NW opinion before embarking on the 2000 mile journey to Mayo. The local Doctor then says, “you are too risky for us to help, but you need help. Good bye!”
Mayo has also declined a few surgeries recommended by local specialists. But at least they did complete thorough testing, exams, and consultations before saying
“No” or Not yet”. They also presented me with alternative therapies and percentages of success or damage a surgery might offer and ways to best manage the issues.
Due to multitudes of inherited health issues, I understand frustration over scheduling and doctor visits that didn’t yield the results I hoped for. We tend to do reviews when we are most passionate(riled up). I am sure the negative reviews here were done in sincerity. Looking back at years of dealing with Mayo, I have to rate them as close to humanly possible…but no not perfect.

It's almost impossible to get in to see your primary care physician....first you have to jump thru hoops with much info on the phone,and explain to a desk attendent the problem, then that's referred to a nurse, who then decides whether or not you should see a doctor, ala 3rd person...as if a person's body doesn't let them know when they need professional help! Have a 3rd person decide how sick you are; ya right! Then waiting for a nurse callback, I"ve been waiting three days with a severe double ear infection, and sinus infection, lots of pain and ear draining. Called on a Friday am; this is Monday noon, still no callback. This has been going on for 5 weeks and was seen and put on antibiotics by another Doctor, to no avail. Jumping thru Mayo hoops and talking to numerous people that relay messages is just a disasterous unnecessary mess. I guess you need to drop over before they consider getting you in for a Dr appt. I worked there for 30 years, and it continually just goes downhill. Number #1 medical institution?! More like #1 screwed up total mess!

I have recently had the absolute honor of being a patient at the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale. The care has been outstanding! From Dr. Sell-Dottin, Dr. Rhee, Dr. Shah, the nurses, phlebotomists, support staff, even valet have all been amazing! They don't just care about your physical health but your mental and emotional health as well. The care I have been receiving compared to my previous care at other hospitals has been night and day. I feel truly fortunate to have the Mayo Clinic treating me and performing my two upcoming surgeries. I would strongly recommend them to

For those of you anticipating access and help from this organization, be prepared for disappointment. My wife has been in horrible overall pain along with severe muscle spasms and contortions for 4 1/2 years now. She currently has to be in bed for over 20 hours a day as the symptoms are just too much to deal with. More recently she started showing symptoms of Tardive Dyskinesia. We have been to four local hospitals, seen countless doctors and specialists. The most recent Neurologist diagnosed her with Functional Dystonia…he thinks. Several nurses, doctors, specialists and ED doctors have suggested that we seek out the Mayo Clinic for the best help for her. We did. We went through the initial interview for fact gathering on their part. When we asked how long a response might take, the rep said they average around 25,000 requests a week. Three days later we received the attached computer generated response.
Please note that we were willing to wait in line for an appointment, up to a reasonable point. But, instead, we’re basically tossed to the curb like garbage. No human response, no offer for a teleconference visit, no nothing.
I guess we are all in the age of poor patient care anymore as this P.O.S. Organization has shown us. There is a special place in Hell for you people. Thank you allowing my wife to continue to suffer with no resolution for her symptoms. Hopefully this posting is helpful for others hoping for assistance.

Registered for an appointment online, wanted several days for a response. When they called the mayo rep asked what was going on and we had a conversation about my issue. At the end he said they couldn't help me because they didn't accept my insurance. That is OK every were else but there. I live within 50 miles of the facility. He advised me I could go to the New York hospital across the country and maybe they could help. At first I thought he was kidding unreal.

I went to dozens of appointments for pudendal neuralgia. It put me out of the fire department for 4 months. Mayo would not sign my aflac short term disability paperwork. I was not able to pay my bills for I depended on that insurance. Mayo didn't even fix my problem. Thousands of dollars out of my pocket wasted. Thanks Mayo.

This hospital is the worse I have ever attended. They waste money on frills, new buildings, and enormous lobbies. They don't give you specialist doctors based on your illness... just hospitalists. My mother died because of their poor care. I flatlined during surgery but they did not tell me. Then I had a stroke a day later and they denied it was their fault. I found out now that the surgery to help me swallow only caused more scaring in my throat worsening my problem and requiring a feeding tube. Now this week an ambulance took my husband there against my wishes. And of course, they don't take Medicare and HMO insurance. So, costs will be out of pocket, and we live on social security income. The hospital is for rich ONLY.

I cannot urge you strongly enough NOT to take your loved one to Mayo Clinic Jacksonville for care. Please please be aware that there are Mayo Clinic-initiated policies in place that make pain management impossible for patients who are suffering. My 23-year-old daughter have a subtotal colectomy at the hospital in August 2023, followed by a blood clot and ileus, an extremely painful condition when the muscles of her newly-resected small bowel stop working.

The general surgeon on the floor after she was re-admitted for complications told me it is Mayo Clinic policy NOT to use tools at their disposal that could help - like pain pumps, or even scheduled pain medication. This leaves the patient or their parent/partner having to request pain medicine, wait on a nurse to show up in the room, wait on the nurse to email the doctor, wait on the doctor to consult with the colorectal or other specialty team, wait on a decision, wait on the pharmacy, and then wait for an ineffective dose to be administered, sometimes hours later. It’s been horrific.

On top of that, my daughter laid in bed, naked, with soiled bedding for hours. I changed her myself many times because help took so long to arrive and her skin was damaged already. I bought my own supplies at Target for her. Nothing is offered - not even pillow cases or clean blankets or wash cloths - I had to request them each time and consistently felt I was inconveniencing staff with my pleas for basic tools to make my daughter comfortable.

She got a UTI while there - unsurprisingly. I sit here as I write this at 2 am listening to her vomit past her NG tube while we have waited more than 30 minutes for a nurse to help us.

Go anywhere else but here.

I had recently contacted the Mayo Clinic in reference to the chronic life altering conditions that I currently have, after even being solicited for application through their portal, only to be told that "demand for our health care services exceeds our capacity" that I guess my case is somehow not worthy of their services. Save your self some time and avoid the frustration of reaching out to this institution.

Mayo Clinic is absolutely worthless. As hard as I try to get an appointment with them, it is useless. When I try to register with them on line, all they do is jerk you around. I have such terrible back pain and they supposedly have the best spine surgeons and I can't get anywhere. If I could give them a zero, I would. I have been trying for over 6 months to get somewhere with them. I have had back surgery and I still have pain in my back. I so wanted to get a neurology surgeon who has good ratings. I have a friend who has had back surgeries by my same doctor and I do not want to go back to this doctor. My friend is in so much pain. I need someone who can help me. Mayo called me twice and said they are not accepting any new patients. So what am I to do, live in pain for the rest of my life?

I obtain a MRI locally in Houston in July and told to mail disc to them. All they did was to send it to radiology who charged $758 to re read with minor abnormalities when in fact the latter was not the case on the original reading in Houston or the US that followed. They just wanted to document I did not have a problem so they did not have to see me. I NEVER gave permission to pay or to re ready the MRI of the pelvis. Medicare only paid around 70$ for the re read but it is in my chart forever.

I also want to add to my review about the mayo clinic in Rochester Minnesota. If you stand up for yourself in anyway whatsoever or disagree with them in anyway, they will send you a letter saying that you missed behaved or were behaving inappropriately.Jennfer Zundal send this out and she makes up stuff and she lies. I’ve read a lot of reviews and I have seen that she has sent letters out to numerous people that are saying they did not deserve a letter like that. So watch out if you get one because it’s faults. I don’t know if that’s the way they THINK they’re saving their butts in case of a lawsuit or what it is all about. But it’s crazy. It’s just a three ring circus there.

Had major surgery at Mayo Clinic, looking into lawsuit for prescription error (as they prescribed half my dose for pain management and thought that was sufficient, irregardless of my personal experience). These folks will operate on you then send you home with literally 1 day(s) worth of prescription pain medication, then throw their liberal agenda at you about "reducing addictive proclivities etc." while you literally suffer. Do not go here for surgery, they do not care if you are in pain, they care about their ideology on pain medication more than their real, living (and suffering) patients.

I went to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN in March of 2008 for what I thought would be a minimally invasive cervical spinal surgery. The surgery was supposed to be performed by the then Chief of Neurosurgery, Dr. William Krauss. The surgery was performed by a resident instead. I was left in severe 24/7 pain and my left side was paralyzed. My neck, shoulders, arms, hands and upper back feel like a severe blistering sunburn. I have no feeling from my knees down. I hobble around my house with a walker and have no sense of balance. Another doctor told me he is surprised I can walk at all because most people with an MRI like mine are quadriplegics. The surgeon did a fusion of C-3,4,5 and caused a stroke in my cord. They did a second 8 hour surgery the following day to do a laminectomy of the same vertebrae. That got me some movement but not much. I have been suffering horribly for over 15 years with no end in sight but my eventual death. I’m lucky my wife of nearly 48 years has stayed with me. I was a Doctor of Chiropractic before my life was ruined. My life was stolen and they get off Scott Free. I tried to get several lawyers to go after Mayo but none of them would try it. Mayo has 200 lawyers on retainer to protect them and make the many people like me disappear. Interestingly, most of this was never put into my records. They knew they did wrong so they started the coverup on day one. I certainly am no Mayo fan. They only allow positive words about themselves to spread only good. One person called it Mayo-naise. I recently found out about another person they maimed and he ended up in a wheelchair. There are many but, you will never know about it. If I could give negative stars, I would.

They won’t see me- I told her it was life and death. She said “I don’t know what to tell you, see a local doctor”. And this is after I told her I’ve seen 5, including specialists. When you submit and get denied for lack of availability, they don’t let you request again for 6 months. My question was “so people who are very sick request appointments, get denied, and have to suffer for another 6 months?” Her response? “Yeah, basically”

I am incredibly unimpressed at how little they care for the health of people reaching out who can’t live their lives because of health problems.

No one there cares about anything except the money they get from filling the 12 week schedule. No waitlist, no help, no compassion, no actual healing for those who may actually be dying.

Literally: screw this place. I don’t care if they have the best doctors, they are awful to potential patients. The ones scheduled and paying….that’s another story. Healthcare is supposed to be there to fix the ill. They are not.
