£2 stolen from me

My neighbour’s burglar alarm (a Keyways installation) went off earlier this week during the daytime. It’s in the corridor of an apartment block so it was incredibly loud. The flat’s tenant wasn’t around so I took it upon myself to ring the number on the front of the alarm box, 0845 4566655. The helpline lady told me there was nothing they could do but that the alarm should stop shortly if its own accord. I thought nothing more about it until I checked my O2 phone bill and discovered that I’d been charged £2 for a 2 minute phone call. This is absolutely outrageous. It’s also ironic that a company who are connected with security were happy to fleece me of my hard-earned money when I was only trying to be helpful. AVOID!

We’re sorry to hear about the disruption caused by the alarm sounding — we understand how frustrating that must have been, especially when you were trying to help.

As you weren’t the registered account holder for the system, our team wouldn’t have been authorised to access or control the alarm remotely. This is to ensure the security and protection of our customers’ properties, as we can only take instructions from verified keyholders.

In relation to the call charge, the number you contacted is an 0845 number. The cost of these calls is determined by the caller’s telephone provider, and unfortunately this isn’t something we’re able to control. We appreciate that this may not have been clear at the time.

We do value you taking the initiative to report the issue, and we’re sorry for any frustration caused. We will also take this feedback on board as we review how we communicate contact details on our systems.

Still awaiting quote...

Unfortunately, I’ve had a very poor experience trying to obtain a quote from Keyways. I made three phone calls and followed up twice, and on each occasion I was assured the quote would be sent through in the afternoon. Despite these promises, nothing was ever received.
Disappointing lack of follow-up and communication, especially after investing time chasing. I hope this is something the company can improve going forward.

I cannot thank Keyways enough!

Writing reviews is not something I often do, but I felt on this occasion I had to share my experience.
My elderly Mother and Father have had the the alarm system serviced annually for several years with Keyways with no issues.
They recently had a flood in their home which completely flooded the downstairs of the property.
Due to my father having early Demetria, security is very important and a working alarm system in his home is a must!
I contacted Keyways to let them know that the house was flooded and all the alarm sensors and control panel were wet. Within hours Keyways engineers responded and fixed all damaged parts an got the alarm reinstated and working again the same day. I can not recommend Keyways and all the team enough.

Disgusted

Disgusted ! Used this company for 14 years in the past pleasant and honest engineers. This year different engineer He suggested changing battery and said the cost of approximately £20.00 came in at £39.98 plus £8.40 for taking the old battery away. Total invoice cost for a 8 minute visit £186.06 ripping off pensioners. Will never use this company again

Definitely won’t be using this company…

Will not be using this company again. Keyways supplied and maintained our alarm for the last 21 years. The same engineer came every year, he was polite, helpful and always kept us informed. He never changed the battery unless it needed to be changed, maybe 2 to 3 times in all those years. However the company has been taken over by Walker Fire and the new engineer didn’t communicate and changed the battery without consultation with us. They charged extra for a sight service and removal of the old battery. The invoice went up exponentially, it was 4 times the old price. We feel scammed.

Keyways Retentions Manager contact.

Since I wrote my previous experience with Keyways I have been contacted by their "Retentions Manager" who tried to recover the situation and offered me a deal based on the charges Keyways used to make. This I have accepted which means I have to use them for the next service but it's at the agreed price. So, to be fair to them, I'm writing this review which is more sympathetic to the company, but I'll have to wait until next January to see how they actually perform. Their Retentions Manager did a good job in recovering, at least pro tem, my business, so I just hope I haven't made a mistake. Time will tell.

Rapid decline in service quality

I have used this company for the last 3 years to firstly install an alarm and CCTV system and to monitor and maintain. It all started off well but the service over the last 18 months has been shocking. They send engineers to maintain the system that don’t know how to do everything, they then send others out to complete the job and try to charge you again. Then they nickel and dime you for every penny - for example I had a faulty window shock sensor, they charged me time to to 1. service it, 2. Remove it, 3. Install new sensor, 3 dispose of sensor all in all cost over £100 when all it is is a small piece of plastic with that sticks to a window frame. Smaller than a Covid test and sticks on the window frame by a sticker! Another Engineer charged for 2 x 30 minute call out fees when he was here for 32 minutes and spent most of that in his van after turning up late. It’s clear this company is all about making money now for a very poor service. I will now look to take my business elsewhere.

Extremely poor service and value for money

My alarm started beeping intermittently throughout the day.A engineer from this company came to attend. He asked about the engineer code on the alarm which I had no idea about. The fault with my alarm persisted and no attempt was made to fix it. All that was done on the day was replacement of a battery in a door sensor. The system was bleeping intermittently and it continued to bleep after the engineer left. I called another company the next week and he had the same issue wanting to know the engineers code. As I didn’t have it he just dialled 0000 and said it was defaulted anyways. So my issue was that Keyways didn’t even try and the problem for which I sought help was not rectified. The alarm was not reset and continue bleeping through the day. I was sent a bill of £107 for this service.

I would not advise anyone to use this…

I would not advise anyone to use this company, engineers that can't do what's requested on the call-out, allow remote access via the wifi. A new engineer comes out and I'm charged for both call-outs and the hours time that the engineer wasted as he didn't know what he was doing, 'i'm not very good with wifi settings' one of the cameras is still not working. I have been chased almost daily for payment but surprisingly no one has chased me about coming out to fix the problem. avoid at all costs!

Want a good alarm company? This isn't it.

The worst alarm company I've ever contracted with. 1 year post installation, numerous call outs for system faults, replaced PIR modules & gate/intercom modules, cameras that didn't work, engineers that turn up unannounced - sometimes even without parts! - and the system still does not work.
Simply appalling quality. These guys aren't cheap, but the quality of parts & service is abysmal. Avoid at all costs!

Very efficient but some issues

Very efficient but some issues.
1. The installer did not follow Covid guidelines - no mask when in our house and no keeping distance.
2. Faulty floodlight sensor so we have two of the three floodlights on all the time. Requested someone come back and look at it but now being ignored.

To be honest I think they don't want to know once they've got their money.
