What I Wish I Knew: My Experience at the Rome International Art Fair 2025 – 15th Edition
The 15th Edition of the Rome International Art Fair, organized by ITSLIQUID Group held from 11th - 24th July, was unfortunately the most disappointing and disheartening art event I’ve ever experienced. As a participating artist, I felt misled, unsupported, and ultimately disrespected on multiple levels.
While the event has been held several times a year since 2021, with four editions scheduled for 2025 alone, this frequency was never transparently disclosed on their website. I found this lack of clarity misleading and deliberately vague.
The venue—Medina Art Gallery in Rome—was split into three small shoplots. No floor plans were provided in advance, and images on their website gave the impression of a spacious, unified exhibition space with strong foot traffic. In reality, the layout was fragmented. After the opening day, the gallery founder made no effort to keep the lights on during open hours, creating an unprofessional and uninviting atmosphere—something I noticed only changed during my repeated visits.
Despite paying a €1,139.87 participation fee, my four artworks were placed in a remote corner of the building, entirely outside the main visitor flow. This placement left me feeling sidelined and taken advantage of.
Staffing further added to the challenges. Most individuals on-site appeared to be temporary interns, with frequent turnover and little professional experience. Some were kind, but others lacked basic communication skills or seemed disinterested. The absence of curatorial support or even a consistent professional presence made the overall experience feel cold and disconnected.
There was also no visible effort to engage a local audience—no community outreach, public programming, or offline promotion. While their online presence remained active, the actual foot traffic was alarmingly low. On most days, there were fewer than five visitors in the gallery.
After the opening day, ITSLIQUID Group representatives were no longer present. All communication was redirected to the founder of the venue, who often deflected responsibility back to the event organizers. One particularly concerning issue was the refusal to use air conditioning, even as indoor temperatures felt like 35°C. The founder cited personal health reasons and vague references to government restrictions, none of which were substantiated. This decision created an uncomfortable and potentially damaging environment for both visitors and artworks. I witnessed a painting fall from an improperly fixed frame and saw several works missing labels and barcodes.
Attempts to resolve these issues were met with resistance. Despite multiple follow-ups, responses were either evasive or dismissive. The air conditioning was finally turned on—but only during the final three days, far too late to make a meaningful difference.
Another issue was the lack of clear and timely communication regarding takedown procedures and potential storage fees. No information was provided in advance, and some artists experienced stress and confusion due to the last-minute notice and unexpected charges.
To add to the frustration, there was a €45 fee charged for the Opening Day afterparty. The general manager of ITSLIQUID Group requested that this payment be made to a personal bank account rather than the company’s official one. For an event with such a high participation fee, this extra charge felt opportunistic and unprofessional.
Even though I raised my concerns respectfully and offered constructive feedback, my communication with the founder of ITSLIQUID Group eventually became strained. At one point, I was threatened with being reported to art and cultural institutions in my home country—an alarming and unprofessional response that left me feeling intimidated.
As artists, we invest not only financially, but emotionally and creatively into such opportunities. In return, we expect professionalism, transparency, and respect. Unfortunately, none of those were present in this experience. I’m sharing my story to caution fellow artists: research thoroughly and ask the hard questions before committing to this fair. While the branding and promises may appear polished, the reality fell far short of acceptable standards.

ITSLIQUID Group has been curating and producing exhibitions around the world for over 25 years, with more than 350 shows realized in collaboration with museums, foundations, galleries, and both institutional and private spaces. Our mission is to support and promote contemporary artists on an international scale, offering high-level visibility and networking opportunities.
We are sorry that your experience at Medina Art Gallery did not meet your expectations. The gallery has hosted 14 previous editions of our Rome fairs and is widely documented with hundreds of images available on our website and social media channels. While we handle the curatorial direction, global communication, and logistics, the internal management of the venue, such as daily operations, hospitality, and staff, is handled entirely by the gallery.
Regarding the discomfort caused by air conditioning issues or other on-site conditions, we genuinely regret the inconvenience and have already communicated your feedback to the gallery team. All our partner venues are required to meet high standards of professionalism, and we will continue to monitor this carefully.
As for the post-opening dinner event, we would like to clarify that it was organized on the rooftop of a 5-star hotel in the heart of Rome, offering an incredible panoramic view of the city. The entire terrace was reserved exclusively for our guests, and the €45 contribution covered a full dining experience: from appetizers to first and second courses, dessert, and quality wines, an offering far exceeding what one could typically expect at such a prestigious location (where two glasses of wine alone can cost as much). Participation in this dinner was entirely optional and intended as a networking opportunity in a relaxed and inspiring setting.
Concerning communication with our team, we want to emphasize that we are always open to dialogue and willing to solve any issues that may arise, within the limits of what is realistically possible. Our founder and director, Luca Curci, is personally involved in each project and remains available to interact directly with artists. This direct and transparent approach is what has made ITSLIQUID Group a respected point of reference in the international contemporary art scene for both artists and galleries worldwide.

Wonderful opening by Itsliquid Group - Future Landscape exhibition in Venice
I visited the last exhibition by Itsliquid in Venice during the opening and it has been an amazing experience! Great art and great event! The fascinating palace "Albrizzi-Capello" was full of art lovers and artists, so I had the opportunity to talk with a lot of interesting people and to discuss about contemporary art. At the opening there was also a touching performance by two dancers, that really fit with the space and the artworks shown. For sure I'll come back to the next events and I recommend it to every art-passionate!!

"itsliquid" Art Fairs: A trap for serious artists
I accompanied an artist friend of mine to the Rome International Art exhibit from July 11 through 25 2025 At the moment of the delivery of the paintings we were already greeted in a rather unfriendly manner and we realised how small the wall was on which five paintings had to be hung partially one over the other. The gallery was much too small for the paintings of so many artists participating.
On the evening of the opening of the exhibit one could find almost exclusively most of the artists who were exhibiting. I could not see any representatives of newspapers, magazines, curators or potential buyers.
The reviews of some of the art work stems exclusively from the personnel of "itsliquid".
In my opinion "itsliquid" is luring artists to expose in their exhibits who are looking for a platform to become recognised. For a professional artist this format is nothing but a "trap" since the organiser is demanding quite high sums of money to be able to expose but does very little or nothing to promote its exhibits.
From my own negative experience I would advice any artist to look for other ways to expose their work of art and try to avoid "itsliquid".

ITSLIQUID Group has been active internationally for over 25 years, organizing hundreds of exhibitions across Rome, Venice, London, Barcelona, and other cities worldwide. Our work is deeply rooted in professionalism, transparency, and respect for artists and their creations.
All our exhibition spaces and shows are documented extensively: we publish hundreds of photos, detailed location sheets, and precise floor plans, thanks to the expertise of our founder Luca Curci and our team of architects and designers. This allows artists to have a clear understanding of the spaces before committing. Whenever there is any doubt or specific need, we gladly arrange visits to the venue and the host city to ensure the best possible preparation.
We do not create “traps” or hidden agendas. With great respect for all opinions, we kindly invite those unfamiliar with the complexities of organizing international exhibitions to consider the years of experience and international credibility we bring to the table.
Regarding the opening events, our galleries are regularly filled with visitors, typically between 100 to 150 guests, and the presence of artists ranges around 10 to 15. This is well documented through the photos we publish online.
Of course, we understand that expectations may vary. In a collective exhibition hosting over 60 artists from 30 different countries, it is natural that some participants may have different views or wishes. We always welcome constructive criticism and continuously strive to improve our services. At the same time, we are grateful to see that the vast majority of artists and visitors express satisfaction and positive feedback.

I first exhibited with Itsliquid in April 2024 in Venice. They were always professional, gracious and helpful. My computer skills are a bit minimal and they always assisted. The exhibition was beautifully curated and representative of a variety of talents. I was offered the opportunity to be filmed for YouTube and this has been a wonderful marketing opportunity. In all aspects their marketing was professional and reaching a global audience of art lovers. . I have had numerous invitations (in fact weekly) from curators and online art platforms to exhibit with them as a direct result of the work which Itsliquid has done and is doing on my behalf. I'm now having my fourth exhibition with them and I would encourage anyone looking to broaden their exposure, to exhibit with them.

Mixed Impressions at the Rome International Art Fair 2025
I visited the Rome International Art Fair to support a close friend exhibiting her artwork. While the opening event itself was enjoyable and the atmosphere welcoming, the venue was much smaller than expected based on its online presentation. A clearer description of the space—its size, layout, and location—would help set more accurate expectations for future visitors and artists.
The artworks were compelling, but unfortunately, the limited space didn’t allow them to truly stand out. It felt like the exhibition prioritized quantity over quality, which detracted from the individual impact of each piece.

At ITSLIQUID Group, transparency and professionalism are essential to our work. For each exhibition, we publish hundreds of photos of the venues and always make available detailed floor plans of every gallery and exhibition space, including those of our partners. Thanks to the expertise of our Founder Architect Luca Curci and our team of architects and designers, we are able to provide precise technical drawings and spatial layouts for all our shows.
We have curated national pavilions during the Venice Biennale and solo exhibitions of established artists, accuracy and attention to detail are part of our DNA.
While we fully respect everyone’s impressions and expectations, it's important to note that the event your friend participated in is an Art Fair dedicated to independent artists, hosted inside an existing gallery space in Rome that has been operating for over 15 years.
Many artists we collaborate with are highly attentive to installation and display. For this reason, we often organize site visits before the opening to ensure all aspects of the setup are discussed and optimized. If expectations are tied to the size and layout of the venue, we always recommend a preliminary visit. It’s a professional approach we fully support and encourage.
In the past month alone, ITSLIQUID has presented more than 250 artists from 40 countries across exhibitions in Rome, London, Venice, and Barcelona, plus a remarkable show at the MUST Museum in Lecce. We have worked in the contemporary art field for over 25 years and continue to collaborate with partners around the world.
