If i could give 0 stars i would. Got to the van and had no fuel card. Was told by customer service that i should purchase fuel and could send a screenshot afterwards for a refund.

Sent said screenshot to then be told by someone else it had to be the actual receipt and now refusing to give me a refund.

Avoid at all costs!

Shocking said yes to us about getting a van then 2 YES TWO MINUTES B4 getting the e van and we traveled to pick the van up! They sent a txt to me saying I HAVE CANCELLED IT JOKERS we rang them up with literally no help and they will be CHARGING ME FOT IT!
Don’t use them!

Avoid scammers and customer service are rude and treat you like scum i did use your vans a lot but now i will never use your vans again

Brilliant concept of van hire by the hour, utterly ruined by awful implementation, poor website and non existant customer support. I registered for the website and loaded my details and selfie, then rented a van for this morning, got a confirmation email to pick up at my local B and Q. When i got there, i had received another message asking me to load a pic of my face next to my passport photo. Tried multiple times but constant " face not recognised messages. Tried "contact us", but could not get past the captcha to submit my query " invalid captcha" no matter what i did. Finally got an error message and a phone number, which i called. On hold for 25 minutes, listening to constant messages of how i can sort out all of my queries via the website, which clearly you cant, then when the agent finally answered, they hung up, without even speaking to me. So went to my local costco and ordered via the instore service. Once again, got a confirmation email but the code to open the van never arrived. I had sent a text message at 9:09, which was replied to at 10:53, i started to reply at 10:58, and.at 11:03, got a message saying as you have not responded, im ending the chat. Replied instantly, but got nothing. So have now wasted 2 hours of a day i took off work to get some large items. This is a classic example of trying to offer a service on a shoestring, with no humans involved. Not impressed at all. I wont use again and will now delete my account.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Hired a van, scrapped a parked car which cause £200 of damage. Which i sorted with the other party. Hertz taken £1200 from my account, as insurance excess. They did not offer CDW, go with a company that does offer super insurance to avoid this. Customer service is appalling, ongoing to get my money back. Please Please Please try somewhere else with in person booking. I wish i see the reviews before i booked the van. Do no make same mistake i did. Check colision waiver or get your own collision waiver insurance, Very expensive Lesson learned.

AVOID TOTALLY UNRELIABLE

Booked a van 30mins before needing it and then 3 mins before the booking time they cancelled it. Called them as van at collection point and was told it wasn’t working (surely the new this before taking my money). No other vans available and had an order to collect. Waiting for them to refund me.

I hired a van for 2 hours and the issues started when I had to refuel the van before returning it.

I refueled the van and then went to pay with the van fuel cards, not realising I need the card PIN, which is suppose to be accessible via the handsfree terminal in the van..unfortunately when I tried to access the fuel card PIN all I received was an 'ERROR' message and then the whole handsfree terminal failed.

I then tried to call Hertz supposed customer service on 020 7365 4199...14 times I called and each time I was connected I could hear people, talking, laughing and swearing in the background, but no one actually spoke to me.

After nearly half an hour of trying to contact hertz I was forced to pay for the fuel out of my own pocket, to add insult to injury they also charged me for late return..which was solely caused by the refueling issues and the non existent customer support!

Awful, awful experience and company

Booked a van for 2 hours and spent probably about 45 minutes of that time just trying to get the on-board system to cooperate with me. They request that you leave the tank at least 1/4 full when you're done and give you a pre-paid card with a pin number you can access through the system. Only the system doesn't work and just says "ERROR" when you request the pin. Bear in mind that I looked for the pin AFTER putting £40 of diesel into the van, so my £38 booking turned into a £78 booking for one and a quarter hours of useable time.
Also, they make it as difficult as possible to get in touch with them to make a complaint, with a "complaints" number that doesn't actually give you an opportunity to file a complaint, a social media page that can't refer you to anyone, and an email that doesn't let you submit photo evidence of an issue to back up a claim.
Probably the worse service I've ever recieved from any company, my mate who helped me on the day and I were actually howling with laughter at one point at how insanely awful it was. Like closing the doors to the van, going to the back of the van to open the back, and the van auto locking the back, then also auto locking the doors back into the drivers seat when I tried to get back in?? Who in their right mind would design such a terrible system.
It almost feels like it was designed to be awful. Like that ERROR pin message was intentional just to trick you to pay for the fuel.
If I can't get a complaint in, I'll be progressing down a small claims route, just in principle at this point.

Very poor service.
Tried to sign up on the app to rent a van. Their automated system could not confirm my drivers licence address with the DVLA and could also not find an address in Wapping London-so they could not process my membership to sign up. Their system locks you out from trying to add more information or change anything and their call Center cannot do anything either as it locked them from changing anything as well.
Only way to look into it they say is to write to their security manager.
Doesn’t really help when you are trying to rent a van for the weekend to move house.

Rude, unreasonable bunch of crooks. Avoid them like the plague. Helpline useless, waiting for hours to speak to someone. They charge stupid amount of money for a flat tyre , even though the was a missing spare on the van. Vans are always dirty and knackered, they do not care.

Rented a van from the B&Q Peckham location. Van was damaged so much so that the passenger door was catching on wing panel. Van was a mess. Cardboard inside. Bottle of water, receipts etc.
Van returned and Hertz then had the nerve to charge me 90£ for cleaning the vehicle. It was given to me in a state. It's not my job to clean it. They even discovered cigarretes - I don't smoke!
Headache of a company. Would avoid like others have said. I wish I had seen the reviews earlier.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing positive to say about Hertz relationships with customers.

Used Hertz 24/7 app to rent a van for 11 hours. Pick up was behind locked gates owned by a storage company. Rental starts at 8am but gates don’t open until 09:30. Rental ends at 19:00 but gates for storage company to lock up close at 16:30. Lost 4 hours so had to move bits in my car. Emailed 4 times with no response

Do not use this company - I returned the van to b and q car park in February 2022 as it’s just a drop off service and no one to check your van on return I managed to take full 360 video and photographs of it returned parked up. 5 days later I received an email trying to charge me £108 + £42 admin fee for a cracked windscreen I immediately disputed this and sent them the videos and photos of the reg in clear sight at drop off time - they then got back to me via email and claimed it was a mistake the charge is now infact for a nail in a tyre which no one could see from my videos her sly they took the initial £42 in February and have still got it even though this charge was in dispute I immediately closed my account with these con artists and requested they delete my card details they said this was done after liasing with a manger who viewed all my evidence Friday December 9th 2022 they have proceeded to take the remaining £108 from my bank with no authorisation from me and they shouldn’t have had my details any longer. This has been refunded by my bank and is being taken as a fraudulent transaction, judging by other reviews all over the internet I’m not the first person they have tried this with avoid at all costs I have used other companies like Sixt for many years and have never had issues go there instead.

Do not use this company as their customer service is poor to say the least. They took prepayment for the vehicle but are refusing to pay the £120 back advising it’s the bank that have got my money. Crazy!!

The van arrived in terrible condition, had to spend 25 minutes of my booked time slot checking through the 'condition report' as half of the damages weren't included in the report.
If you have any queries, the operators give you very mixed and confusing information regarding your deposit etc. AVOID THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WANT A HEADACHE.

Reserved a van for IKEA shopping for 13:45, which has been confirmed, but access code was never texted, checking in the mobile app displayed "account suspended, call customer service" and they told me the address check failed. No SMS sent by Hertz, one hour after begin of reserved period an email arrived stating that I will be charged because I should have cancelled the reservation 6 hours before.
Called Hertz again and requested an email confirmation that I did not cancel the reservation, answer: they can (or will) not do this. My address is in the election register, on my driving license, on government and council documents, and never ever failed a verification other than Hertz; they are incompetent with dodged business processes, and let you stand with your IKEA shopping in front of the store without even texting cancellation notice.
Can you find a worse rental operator?

Dimensions of van incorrect, so couldn't fit materials I bought inside. Called to explain, and after waiting 20 mins to speak to someone I was told I should have rented the bigger van (there isn't one at my location) and that they would charge me an extra hour because I didn't call 15 mins earlier... so dumb. I used the van for 90 mins and was charged for 4 hours, even thought the app said 2.5 hours. Complete joke of a system and the Customer Service person I spoke to was so arrogant and unhelpful.

Not that this review is needed as the mass majority have said the same but, here goes -

Set up my account and confirmed it was set up. Next day I’I’ve booked a van and am trying to get in when they send me a text saying that my ID wasn’t accepted! They should never have accepted my booking if this was the case.
I was forced to cancel the booking and then they charged me twice for that!

I phoned to complain and they said I’d get refunded for both £40 charges but, to date, have only received one of those.

Not only that, but when I finally got my account verified and booked another £40 van they then withdrew £49.50 from my account even though the quote was £40. This is particularly ridiculous considering I had to pay the fuel myself as nowhere would accept the fuel card provided and I was given a basically empty tank meaning most of the first hour I had booked it for was spent driving about looking for a shell garage that would accept the fuel card before giving up and putting in £30 myself!

So a booking that should have cost me £40 according to the app has cost me £119.50.

Do not book with this company as their customer service is a joke and the service they provide is a scam - and you won’t be able to contact them if you try!

EDIT: I managed to get my refund back so changed to 2 stars - still stand by my opinion of them being useless and not worth wasting money on.

Had my booking cancelled 20 minutes before I was scheduled to pick the van up. Was notified by email, not even text. No explanation for the cancellation so I’ve had to hire a more expensive vehicle last minute, awful service, stay away
