A £300 Freesat recorder, upon which Freesat themselves have a MONOPOLY (as no one else is making them any more), has stopped working after less than two years of light-to-moderate use, and Freesat's response is not only to refuse to do anything about it, but to add insult to injury by offering to SELL me a replacement!
In what version of reality could anyone find that an acceptable response and anything but a shoddy standard of customer service?
Dreadful after service …
Dreadful after service after about a month of buying the freesat box i started to get an issue with the hd channels not streaming when 1st switched on. Reported it to freesat support but was told it could be the satalite dish/ connection. 9 month later i reported the issue again but also telling them that the box flickered hdr on and hdr off. I contacted them again recently just after 12 months. This time i had a prefessional come out to check the satalite dish and connections. He tells me that its definately the box. Despite not seeing the box freesat support tells me the professional who tested things is wrong saying its the satalite and also deny ive contacted freesat previously despite having a copy of the replies. They are now questioning what the satalite engineer did to the box. Im not expecting anything from them as they have been hopeless so far. They need to get their act together otherwise they have lost my custom in the future
Believe the bad reviews!
Initially delighted with recordable box. Then lost access to all recordings saved over a 6 month period. Freesat said, "Tough but shouldn't happen again". Built up another few months recordings, went to watch...reboot (wipe recordings) required. Freesat response: Outside warranty, couldn't give a -!
Absolute shambles
Absolute shambles, my refurbished box wasn't posted till I chased after due delivery date had past. So called refurbished box was faulty and original owners details still on it. Said they would send replacement when I sent proof of return. After nothing was sent, they told me they only send replacements when old one received back. I explained I had a long email about sending proof of postage and while I was on the phone I got a email thanking me for sending proof of postage. It took 16 days to get a working box.

Brought freesat box Xmas 2021, hard drive has gone and after ringing customer services to be told it's un-repairable after less than 2 yrs is unbelievable and a really poor product. What happened to repairable components? Disgusted is an understatement. DON'T BUY!

Not worth even 1 star!! Bought our freesat recordable box in 2021,the hard drive went wrong just within the 12 month guarantee, we sent the box back and they repaired it. It lasted another year and the hard drive has gone again. This time they suggested we buy another box! Outrageous suggestion when that box cost £259 and the hard drive went in a year. It should state when you buy it, it will need to be replaced yearly. They are selling sub standard equipment not fit for purpose, how can they get away with thst under the trade descriptions act? We've had a Humax box which is still going strong after years of use in our bedroom, gutted they are not making them anymore. Please don't waste your money buying this rubbish, it might seem fine when you first get it but this won't last. You can't speak to anyone in the complaints department you can just email them. Very unsympathetic customer service team, FREESAT, you should be ashamed of yourselves, anyone reading this please don't buy one you are being totally ripped off and I bet freesat won't acknowledge this post. Will be taking this further shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.
Complete waste of money
Complete waste of money.
Great for the first year then the problem started.
You start watching a recording then within a few seconds it stops and reverts to the tv. You then start from scratch reloading the recording again and again and again. The company says you'll have to factory reset the box but it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference. They haven't got a clue.
Shocking customer service.
At first i was singing their praises, as i changed from Sky to freesat 4k box.
In fact i was so pleased with the box, i bought another for our static caravan.
I also left them a 5 star review due to them sending me out a replacement power plug.
However almost 2 years on, & the hard drive is completely faulty!
It kept saying ‘hard drive problem reboot’.
I called them & was told there was nothing they could do, apart from contact customer service, which i did.
To cut a long story short, they were not interested & unhelpful.
Almost £450 spent on 2 freesat boxes & not a single explanation to why they couldn’t replace the ‘Faulty’ box, said it all.
Regardless of time, if an item is faulty ( & theirs was as you only need to look at the reviews which all complain about the same fault ) then the trading standards say the company should replace it, but this company ain’t interested.
Save your money, because if you buy a 4k box, then you’ll be dealing with the same issues as myself & many many others ( read the reviews ) in less than 18 months.
Rubbish and overpriced products.
I bought a Freesat 500GB Recordable 4K TV Box in June 2021. It's always been slow to load all the menus, (even though I have 1GB broadband) and after 11 months, my box refused to power up (luckily just inside the warranty). A year and a half later, its replacement has become very unreliable. Many recording are glitchy (sometimes they don't play at all) and it has started to repeatedly, suddenly crash. These devices are simply not built to last. For something that starts at £230, I feel I've been cheated.

As a past Humax user I have now had to go to Freesat .. for my box .. They are few things that I have found fault in .. they only have a 7 day record facility and not a 8 day one .. there advert skip is a bit useless .. but my main problem is that of the four Freesat own boxes I have .. 1x 500 ..2x 1TB .. 1x 2 TB .. most of them 4K..
The oldest one is now "skipping on playback" .. this was a fault on Humax .. at one time ..
Sub standard guide and info - really awful
Really, given technology now, how can Freesat do such a bad job on their TV guide where its nigh on impossible to find out which episode of a series is going to show - why when one sets to record does it not add all those previous episodes one might have missed due to the guide being so poor and not user friendly. Never thought I would say it, but Virgin's TIVO was so much better - watch and learn Freesat
APPALLING customer care!
Shortly after my guarantee ran out on my Freesat 4k thee unit developed a major hard drive fault. This is my third Freesat box and none have lasted more than 2 years!.
The series of EmaiIs between myself and a representative was extensive and they offered no help or understanding of the poor quality of the product. At no time during our Email exchange was there any offer of a compromise solution. Absolutely appaling customer care. Poor quality product. I suggest that Freesat senior management have an away day to resolve their poor product quality and to massively improve customer care. If I could leave a zero star rating, I would! ZERO

Bought as ‘Opened box but unused’ which arrived 3rd August 2023
Failed hard drive after 7weeks ownership over summer 2023- I has watched an app on it once and had set it to record. Therefore I cannot comment on its functionality.
I fell ill and did not touch box for the 7 weeks.
Hours of rebooting and factory reset and it was decided a hard drive fail.
Factory reset is a simple process but Freesat do not have anywhere that tells you how to do it. Press on/off button and keep it pressed while unplugging electrical cord from back . Keep on/off pressed and plug back in after 30 seconds whilst keeping on/off still depressed.when light goes red let go.Leave it to reboot as light goes blue. You will lose all your recordings and settings but as I had never really watches or recorded that did not matter to me.
I should have chosen to return to seller but instead went thru Freesat .
As manufacturers they should know when my box was made via serial number.
They replaced it with a ‘ refurbished’ box but are unable to tell me if or what the warranty is on it. Process took 2 weeks.
Put in complaint and waiting for response to find out both boxes serial numbers hence the date of manufacture.
I was first told the warranty on the replacement refurbished box would be one year from my proven date of purchase plus they give an extra 4 months leeway.
I can see from responses here on Trust Pilot that this ‘4 extra months leeway’ is a lie.
I fully expect the next level team (who you cannot speak to - you have to wait for them to contact you- will be telling me that there is no warranty on this replacement box.Even although they know fine well via serial number the date of manufacture of my returned box. If you want to find out the date of manufacture via serial number do not expect to speak to someone via their number who can tell you. They have to elevate that request again to their technical team and NO yiu cannot be transferred through to them.
Basic Sky was costing me £28 a month.
If this replacement box lasts me 7 months at least I will have saved £7.
If it lasts a year (seems a common experience) it will have saved me £150 in sky bills.
I will update if and when their ‘next level’ team give me answers as to the warranty on the replacement box.
It is now January 2024 and I just received a second email from trustpilot to verify i was a genuine freesat customer. The first request was in October where I provided a reference a d my personal details.
I would add a screenshot of my emails from freesat customer service but there is no facility to do so.
Save your money!
Purchased our second box June 2022 as a replacement, first one lasted just 21 months, so out of warranty, replacement now appears to have gone wrong, wish we’d spent the money on a decent piece of equipment, have not contacted them this time as they weren’t interested the last time - save your money!
I purchased a 4K 1TB Recordable Freesat…
I purchased a 4K 1TB Recordable Freesat box from the Freesat website and it won't record. They either sent me a non-recordable one by accident or it has a fault. After going around in circles with their tech support for the past 2 days they've agreed to send a replacement, but the replacement will be sent once they receive confirmation from the post office that I've sent the existing one back. So I'm without a tv for potentially 6 days as this is a Friday. They said send it back first thing Monday so its only 2 - 3 days without a tv. I wish I stayed with my existing provider. I will never recommend Freesat.
18 months old and Hard drive…
18 months old and Hard drive failure.... When I paid out £240 I expected to get alot more time for my money, I should have just stayed with Sky and gave the money to them, shocking quality to not even last two years.....
I have changed the hard drive over myself, and it is working again, around £12 on Amazon for the same one in box and very good how to vids on You Tube, took around 5 minutes to do.
Freesat lie on their website
Purchased a Freesat box just over 2 years ago and the hard drive has gone on it. Freesat say that because it is 17 months after the warranty expired they will do nothing. Their website states under the Faults section that if the box developes a fault within 6 years you might receive some compensation - well that is a blatant lie. Disgusting company.

so fare so good installed my 500 GB recordable freesat box in June & it works great the apps work fine HD channels are good . i look forward to trouble free viewing & may be more HD channels from freesat .
Don't record too much, you will lose it some day
Like many others have experienced, the hard disk in my Freesat box gave up the ghost after 3 years. Actually I might have been lucky it lasted that long. It's taken with it the 60% full disk and all the recordings I was hoping to watch. My Humax did the same thing after about the same length of time. PCs and laptops I use at work with hard disks last a decade or more, TVs and other audio visual equipment too, so I don't understand why the technology is so poorly put together and unreliable. Unfortunately where I live I have no alternative but to use a satellite dish. Freesat itself is fine (apart from no 4OD), I just wish I didn't keep losing half a disk of recordings every 2 or 3 years. It doesn't make for very cheap 'free' TV. So I guess I have to go back to Currys and buy another one and take bets on how long it will last. I guess I could pay for an extended warranty to counteract the fact these things seem engineered to drop dead after 2 years.

I just wish I had read the reviews before purchasing this below par trash. The box itself has lasted two years, totally unacceptable when we are all trying to cut down on waste. Basically, it has cost us £100 a year for the privilege of watching free TV. I contacted customer service and they confirmed that the hard drive had failed and it shouldn't have done in such a short period. Free replacement? No, discount on a new box? No. Please do not waste your money on this product or the inflexibility of the customer service team. I suggest you spend your money elsewhere, where you're valued as a customer.
