Focusmate has been a game-changer for me. Like so many others, I have ADHD, and I also work from home and am self-employed, so sometimes just sitting down at my desk can feel like a monumental (insurmountable) task; Focusmate gets me in my chair at a specific time with a list of things I need to do (even if the thing I need to do is spend 20 minutes figuring out what I need to do with the rest of my day!). Once I am "in the zone," I'm good, but getting there has been an uphill battle, and Focusmate solves that problem for me.

I also find that, once I've told my session partner what I plan to do, the accountability check-in at the end is all I need to get me to do it (this is particularly true with sending emails and/or making calls that I Just. Don't. Want. To. Do!).

Not only that, but the people are SO NICE! I feel like I'm in a warm community of people who "get it," and everyone is so happy to congratulate one another at the end of a session, even (especially?) for those tasks that ought to have been easy (phone calls, etc.) that I was avoiding for no good reason and that are almost embarrassing to admit need to get done.

50+ sessions in, I'm incredibly grateful to the friend who suggested it for me, and I am paying it forward to you!

I used to struggle a lot with procrastination, and staying consistent felt really hard. But Focusmate has honestly changed that for me.

It keeps me accountable and helps me actually get things done to the point where using it has become a habit I genuinely rely on. I’m now able to stay focused and productive without constantly putting things off.

I’ll be honest: when I first heard about Focusmate, I was skeptical. As someone who is neurodivergent, I didn't see how sitting on a call with a stranger would help. I eventually gave it a shot, and I am genuinely blown away by how effective it is. It taps into a perfect balance that "study dates" with friends usually lack.

Why It Actually Works
The "Stranger" Advantage: When you work with friends, it’s easy to spend 90% of the time chatting. With Focusmate, everyone is incredibly kind, but because you don’t know them, there’s no social pressure to over-talk. You check in at the start, work in silence, and wrap up at the end.

The Power of Body Doubling: Having someone virtually "work alongside you" is a massive productivity booster. I’ve seen people use it for everything—coding, yoga, cleaning, or administrative tasks.

External Accountability: It helps me keep "appointments with myself." Before Focusmate, my schedule was just a suggestion. Now, knowing someone is waiting for me on the other side of that camera forces me to actually show up and start.

Value and Flexibility
The pricing is excellent. Even at the highest tier, you can get unlimited sessions for under £100 a year, which is a steal for the consistency it provides. They also offer free sessions every week for those who want to test the waters. I personally find the 75-minute sessions to be the "sweet spot" for deep work.

Room for Improvement
While I think the platform is already great (and cheap enough that a student discount isn't even necessary), there are a couple of features I’d love to see:

Integrated To-Do Lists: A shared or personal checklist within the session UI so you can visually track your goals with your partner.

Better Milestone Tracking: A way to log what you’ve accomplished during those appointments.

Conclusion: If you struggle to stay consistent or find it hard to start tasks, I cannot recommend Focusmate enough. It’s transformed how I schedule my life and actually get things done.

What a friendly, kind, and useful idea! I love Focusmate, and though a relatively new user, I am amazed at the boost in productivity it has already brought to my life. The concept is simple: work with focussed and friendly others. Because of the commitment involved, it helps me stay on track and meet my (self-employment) work commitments. Plus it's been sweet to meet folks from all over the world.

I get so much done when I use FocusMate — and so little done when I don’t! The interface is so user friendly. I love that I’ve had the chance to work with people from all over the world. (That interaction — even if it’s limited to brief, cheery greetings and goodbyes — provides the extra bonus of giving me hope in a world where politics can be so depressing.). I recommend FocusMate to everyone I meet who has trouble with procrastination, avoidance, or isolation.

Since i started with focus mate about 1,5 months ago, i finished 75 sessions. I am far more productive and focused. I can do what i plan and that is simply because of this awesome platform. I can only recommend.

it's a steal , I have made a yearly subscription and couldn't use it due to lack of time , and I asked them to just pay for the three months in a monthly rate and cancel the account , and the guy completely ignored me saying it's your problem and was really treating me bad.
it seems that their first objective is to make money and the people come second. really dissapointing :(

FYI, I also ran a business and anyone that paid me for for the entire year and
out of some reason couldn't continue, I would give back the money till the last cent, because that's how we should treat our sisters and brothers, we are all connected here on this planet.

the minimum you could do, is to reach back and try to sort things out, that would be nice.

Focusmate offers a well designed service to help people actually focus. My productivity doubled since I started using focusmate.

This app has completely changed my life. I'm incredibly grateful for it, for people like me it's a god send.

I've logged over 3300 sessions on Focusmate over the last 4yrs - it's my #1 tool to getting more stuff done (and better quality stuff!)

I've dabbled with other accountability platforms and I keep coming back to Focusmate. For me - it's the best tool out there. There's huge power in making an appointment with another human to get meaningful work done. You do get some no-shows but there are so many users on the platform now that a replacement is usually found within 1min - so the show rolls on.
