I bought my Citroen C3 in July . I asked them before I bought it that I wanted the timing belt. Accelerator , clutch and brakes checking and replacing before I bought it . They said they had an independent ggge that would service and MOT .
After a week of collecting this car I had the timing belt checked only to discover it was cracked and needed urgent replacement . 600.00 £ . First 4 cars stated it was not faultyon purchase but had not been replaced since this vehicle was registered and clearly needed changing or I could end up with a damaged engine. Long and short they agreed to pay 200 £ towards the cost of replacement .
My advice if buying any car 2nd hand is do your checks -last mot and service . If it has a wet belt which can been seen through the oil cap check off it is cracked . It needs replacing if ig is , otherwise if it goes it will damage your engine pistons . Engine will need replacing .
Fortunately I had Citroen and a indep gge who specialise in wet belts check it and both confirmed it needed replacing .
Just as well this belt did not go on driving away from the Gge on the day of picking it up .
I wouldn’t buy from this gge again .

The Citroën C3 was approximately four years old and had covered around 67,000 miles when purchased. Prior to sale, the vehicle was independently MOT tested and serviced, and there was no fault reported with the timing belt at that time.
Shortly after purchase, you chose to have the vehicle inspected by other garages and were advised that the timing belt should be replaced as a preventative measure. When assessing a component such as a wet timing belt, it is understandable that a garage may err on the side of caution and recommend replacement where there is any concern over its condition, particularly given the potential consequences should a belt subsequently fail. It is also worth remembering that the garage providing that advice may subsequently be carrying out the replacement work.
That does not, however, automatically mean that the vehicle was sold with a failed or defective timing belt. The belt had not failed, and there was no resulting engine damage.
Nevertheless, we took your concerns seriously and, despite there being no timing belt failure, agreed to contribute £200 towards the cost of replacement as a gesture of goodwill.
Wet timing belts fitted to certain PureTech engines are a known maintenance consideration, and Citroën itself provides additional support in certain circumstances where premature belt degradation has occurred. Manufacturer servicing requirements also depend upon the particular engine, age and mileage of the vehicle.
We feel it is therefore important to distinguish between a garage recommending preventative replacement of a component and a vehicle having suffered a component failure.
We were pleased that the matter was resolved without any failure or engine damage and that we were able to make a contribution towards the preventative work. We are therefore disappointed to receive a one-star review, but we wish you well with the vehicle going forward.

Luke sold me a brilliant 3 year old Kia Sportage in 2019. 40K miles later and it’s only needed to be service and MOT’d every year and still runs like a dream. Will definitely be buying my replacement from Luke.

Bought my Ford focus 1.0 ecoboost and…
Bought my Ford focus 1.0 ecoboost and within 3 months of purchasing air intake pipe broke had to replace, then my wet belt broke, starved my engine of oxygen and seized my turbo which also had to be replaced.
And now my brakes have gone and need replacing all in all the car has cost me to fix £1850 since I bought it from there I know their is a risk buying used cars, but this is ridiculous. Especially when they said to me car had thorough checks and was in tip top condition. Tried making contact and they fobbed me off with an after sales email contact and no one has got back in touch. So yeah won't be purchasing a car from these again.
Absolute jokers gas light you in to buying a decent car and it turns out it's just a money a bleeder on wheels cheers first4 car for completely emptying my wallet and permanent headaches and stress.

All of our vehicles undergo thorough pre-delivery inspections and checks prior to sale; however, as with any used vehicle, mechanical failures can unfortunately occur over time despite these precautions. We note your comments regarding contacting us, but we have no record of receiving an email from you. Had we been made aware of the issues, we would have welcomed the opportunity to discuss the situation and assess the vehicle before any repairs were carried out.
As we have not had the opportunity to inspect the car, we are unable to comment on the causes of the faults, the mileage covered since purchase, or the circumstances surrounding the failures. Factors such as usage and the condition of components at the time issues develop can have a significant bearing on any diagnosis.
Customer service is important to us, and we are disappointed to read that you feel let down. We apologise for not knowing you had an issue and therefore not responding to you.

Want to find a car in the £10k to £15k bracket? Want a range of body types to look at? Want reasonable miles for the age of the car? Want a garage that prices fairly? Want to be able to walk around the cars and not have to make small talk?
I could go on, but what made me travel a two and a half round trip to buy my car here was the videos, you can see the valeter still has gloves on.
The small details show they treat these cars as they would their own.
What helps is what is said online, is exactly the service you get when you are there.
An engineer stopped working on a car to show me around, and ben who finished the sale knew his stuff and did not push, just helped when he was asked.
I'd already recomended this garage to 3 people before finalising my purchase.
I will be coming back with freinds and family for sure.

Bought a car back in December
Bought a car back in December. In May the engine management light came on. Took it to get a diagnostics on what was wrong. First garage told us where about it was but machine couldn’t pin point where it was, the mechanic looked at the engine and said it was a mess with broken bolts used on the engine. The last one we took it to found what was wrong, filled it up with engine oil & coolant so I could get home and told not to drive it. In his opinion the engine had been tampered with. I called First4cars who said it was out of warranty and it was down to wear and tear. I had only done 1023 miles since December. They just weren’t interested in giving me a refund or offering me anything. Please don’t buy any car from here they have no interest that you have spent your hard earned money on faulty cars.

While we appreciate that you have only covered 1,023 miles since purchasing the car in December, the vehicle is nearly 8 years old and had been in your ownership for approximately five months before any issues were reported to us. Prior to sale, the vehicle underwent an independent MOT inspection and no concerns of this nature were identified.
We understand that you have received opinions from third-party garages; however, we have not been provided with any independent engineering report confirming that the alleged faults were present at the point of sale. We also do not agree with the suggestion that the vehicle had been tampered with prior to purchase.
When you contacted us, your requested resolution was a full refund several months after purchase, which was not something we were able to accommodate based on the age of the vehicle, the length of ownership, and the information available to us at the time.
We always aim to assist our customers where possible and regret that we were unable to reach an outcome that satisfied you. We wish you all the best moving forward.

Purchased a Volvo V40 from here around…
Purchased a Volvo V40 from here around 4 weeks ago. Drove it a short distance home only to receive a message stating the battery was low. The following morning, I got into the car and set off only to be greeted with a message the coolant was low then the car overheated flagging multiple warning messages stating coolant low, stop engine and engine too hot. The car was apparently serviced, the air filter was black so this was not replaced during the "service". The preparation work wasn't great either, their was thick gunky cleaning product all over, white residue all over leaving me to have to clean it myself. The service history was supposed to be "good", its missed a few years. I believe the vehicles are bought from auction and sold for 4x as much as they are worth. I contacted the dealer to have the car repaired however upon discovering how their services are carried out, I don't trust them to fix the car properly and seen as though i have two children I can't afford to have a car bodged leading to breakdowns on the motorway. The dealer stated i had to use the free breakdown cover (so then id lose it as it only covers one call out) to get the car back.. I then had to apparently drive the car a quarter of a mile away, and wait hours for breakdown to arrive with two young children.. how am i supposed to get back home with their car seats? I now have a car which looks like the head gasket has gone & potentially requires an engine due to cracked cylinder walls. The log book has never arrived so ive had to sort this myself. I would not recommend this dealer, I sold my previous car to get this one and now I'm left to fork out a couple of grand to sort it. Id save yourself the hassle and go elsewhere.

We are sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with your experience. As soon as you reported concerns with the vehicle, we arranged for it to be returned to us for inspection and repair. A booking was made for the vehicle to attend our workshop; however, the vehicle was not brought to the appointment and we did not receive any further communication regarding the matter until your negative reviews were posted on 2 sites.
We would like to clarify that we have never refused assistance, and our offer to inspect and repair the vehicle remains open. As the supplying dealer, we must be given the opportunity to inspect and diagnose any reported faults before authorising repairs. We have not authorised any work to be carried out by a third-party garage.
Regarding the V5C registration document, once ownership details are submitted to the DVLA, replacement or updated V5C documents can take several weeks to be processed and returned by the DVLA. Unfortunately, this timescale is outside of our control.
The vehicle purchased was a 10-year-old used vehicle, and while every effort is made to prepare and inspect our vehicles before sale, unexpected mechanical issues can occasionally occur. The vehicle was inspected and had a full clean MOT by an external garage prior to your purchase.
We remain committed to resolving genuine concerns fairly and professionally and would welcome the opportunity to inspect the vehicle and work towards a resolution, as is explained in our email to you.

AVOID - Worst garage I have ever dealt with. Travelled 3.5 hours to view/test drive a car (had already spoken by phone 3 times in previous week) only to be handed a piece of paper saying I had to take the car out at my risk withour insurance (not mentioned on any previous calls or on their website) and neither would any of their staff take me out. Made a second 3.5 hour trip, for one of their staff to take me out purchased the car and paid in cash in full within 24 hours, then I later found that they had also lied to me saying that the car has 2 keys, but then later they said it only had 1 key.....as expected they denied everything and excuses started coming.

Test drives are covered under our trade insurance policy. As explained at the time, customers remain responsible for any driving offences such as speeding fines, and there is an insurance excess payable in the event of an accident, which is standard motor trade practice.
Following your request, one of our staff members accompanied you on the second visit for the test drive, after which you chose to proceed with the purchase and completed payment within 24 hours.
The vehicle was never advertised as coming with two keys, nor was any written agreement or contractual term made stating that two keys would be supplied. As soon as the issue regarding the number of keys was raised, we acted promptly and transparently in confirming that only one key was available. In an effort to resolve matters amicably, we made the decision to unwind the transaction and provide a full refund of all monies paid within a short time frame.
While we regret that you were unhappy with aspects of your experience, we do not accept that we acted dishonestly or misleadingly at any stage, and we wish you all the best moving forward.
