Think Twice Before Committing to Crunchbase—Cancellation Woes for Startups
As a startup founder searching for potential funding partners, I turned to Crunchbase on the recommendation of peers. Eager to dive in, I opted for their trial period, subscribing for a free trial period of 14x days followed by a monthly rate of $99.00. The platform did not meet my expectations nor was it conducive to my needs, and I set it aside inadvertently neglecting to cancel the subscription for two months.
When I realised the oversight, I immediately contacted Crunchbase’s customer support to rectify the situation. Although they refunded the most recent charge, they declined to refund the earlier month’s fee, citing their terms and conditions. According to their policy, refunds are generally not provided unless under certain conditions, which apparently did not apply to my case.
From a legal standpoint, while Crunchbase is within their rights to adhere strictly to their policy, the essence of good customer service—especially in a community built around supporting startups—would ideally lean towards flexibility and understanding. Their refusal, masked under the guise of 'inability' as per their terms, felt more like an 'unwillingness' to offer a full refund. This approach not only felt unfair, given that I had not utilised their service during this period, but also seemed contrary to the spirit of supporting fellow businesses in the startup ecosystem.
This experience has left a sour note, prompting me to caution others in the startup community. In an era where automatic payments can slip through unnoticed, the ethics of strict non-refund policies, especially when no services are consumed, deserve scrutiny. I hope that raising awareness about such practices might spark a broader discussion or even encourage regulatory oversight on fair cancellation and refund practices in subscription-based services.
In the meantime, I advise potential Crunchbase users to be wary and fully aware of the financial commitment and cancellation policies before subscribing. This one oversight cost my startup an extra $99—a non-trivial sum that could have been allocated elsewhere in our budget. I hope my experience informs others and prompts Crunchbase to reconsider their policies toward a more startup-friendly approach.

To delete a crunchbase account, you have to find out how. Once you know you have to send an email to a certain support address. User experience = zero!

Made a free trial account that never worked. I couldn’t see any data despite the trial and I couldn’t access my account to cancel it. now in a few days my card will be charged. The in app support chat says “we couldn’t connect you right now” and there is no obvious customer support to reach out to.

Tried their trial period. We cancelled but they charged us anyway for the year. Their trick is that when you cancel your subscription in the free trial period you get an acknowledgement on the screen, but no email verification of the annulment. They then charge you for a yearly subscription.

Trying to set up a new company profile. Very poor interface, but even so, reach the end. Save. The system tells me that I have errors in my profile and says I should click on the edit icon to fix them.

Yup. Another one who has been burned by the 'free trial' and automatically upgraded to the $500+ option which they won't refund unless you spot it within the first week. Avoid Avoid Avoid.

It looked good and I made many search lists worldwide. Then lately I got a recommendation by email; it was for one company in Pakistian Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. To me it looks like CB complete lost grip with reality. So I asked them and do not exspect an answer. Why did I buy an annual subscription? Not worth a dollar.

Shocking website. Do not list or subscribe. I cannot even delete companies I have created that no longer exist. I have to ask permission for them to do various edits. How accurate can the company information be on this website?
Fraud company with no support
I was using there trail version but suddenly there was a pop up saying you need to be a subscribe for pro, as I was already using pro trial I subscribe for it again I thought it was some system mistake. But this time they charge me. I have sent many emails to them but no reply. On top of this they don’t have any customer support.
