Started with David H, and then moved to Daniel C in the conveyancing team buying our new home - very professional and efficient service. In particular when we had a sudden completion deadline the team really understood and went the extra mile!

I dealt mostly with the deceased estates team but also the conveyancing team at Brethertons.
I can honestly say that they do live up to their company mission statement, which is unusual!
They really do break the mold when you think of solicitors. They reply to any communication swiftly, they communicate in lay mans terms, without being patronising. Every team member is incredibly courteous, professional, helpful and do what they say they're going to do and they do it efficiently and effectively. I would not recommend any other solicitors so highly and I really do hope their hard work and diligence is recognised by their senior managers. Suffice to say, they might be a bit more expensive than others, but there's a reason for it. They are excellent and worth every penny and I cannot say just how grateful I am, in particular to the wills and estates team for making a turbulent time that bit easier by being kind, understanding and professional. All of the solicitors and barristers that I have had dealing with at Breathertons have dealt with my case with the upmost care, understanding, patience. Their abilities have been top quality. Brethertons took over a lease extension from previous solicitors that had already been delayed and become quite convoluted after five months with no progress since the Section 45 deadline of 10 September 2025. After taking conduct in February 2026, they dealt with the situation where the freeholder had agreed the premium but not the lease terms, and once the terms were agreed still failed to sign the lease, which required a vesting order application. They brought the matter to a successful conclusion, with recovery of all costs and no need for Stage 2 proceedings. We are very pleased with how the matter concluded.

I am the leaseholder of Royal Arsenal Riverside. I forgot to pay the service fees to their management agent, Rendall and Rittner, on time and then I received the payment collection letter (Letter before Action or LBA) from Bretherton. Besides all the payment in arrears, there is a legal costs charged by Bretherton for GBP780. I did the research to know the range of issuing a LBA is in the range of GBP 50 to 400. If such letter is issued by a senior partner in a solicitor firm, it will be more than GBP400. However, this LBA was prepared and sent by a trainee paralegal and they charged me for GBP780. They put my account with Rendall & Rittner in breach even I immediately settled all the payment in arrears so that I couldn't help but paying the unreasonable legal costs. I saw there is another same complaint in Trustpilot and it makes me believe Bretherton is overcharging in every LBA case and I am not alone. I want people to take note of the way Bretherton is doing business and be careful of their outrageous charges for different legal cases.

Comment on Bretherton's response:
I am not their client but their client hired them to collect payment from me via an LBA. The point is not whether Bretherton specializes in conveyance or other lines of business. Even Bretherton is a firm of specialists, doesn't mean they can charge sky high by having a trainee paralegal, who is not a specialist, to prepare and send an LBA, which an AI tool can do. With such response, I think they should be re-gauged from one star to zero star.

On the advice of a friend (Retired solicitor) we used Emma Stewart at Brethertons and she was excellent, stating things clearly and concisely for our Wills and Powers of Attorney. Emma even speeded up the PoA so that we saved money before the Government's fees increased!

It's been a long process to sell my parents house but I have had the support I needed from Brethertons, who have chased up queries when needed and kept me in the loop along the way. Thank you

Leo Deane and his offsiders provided me with impeccable property conveyancing service when I purchased a house (Oct 2025 to Feb 2026). Unlike other law firms, they answered emails and phone calls extremely promptly, made sure I understood what was happening and when, and generally put me first. Wow, a customer-oriented law firm!
I rate Brethertons very highly and will continue to deal with them for legal matters.

Emma Stewart prepared new wills and LPAs for us. She was very helpful, professional and calm when we created some problems during the processes! It was a first class service which we would strongly recommend to others.

Using the fixed priced divorce service . Although initially ok , the company are filling in forms incorrectly for us , when ours is a fairly simple financial split. They have put financial info in the wrong columns in the D81 even when provided with all our mediation figures. It’s been a long and protracted process with still no end in sight and are still procrastinating on completing the work . Disappointed in them

Disappointed overall. I took out a divorce package including pension sharing order.

When trying to clarify some final points I was met with a threat of £280 bill when I felt my needs had not been 100% met.

If only solicitors particularly this one spoke in English and clarified things clearly it would be a lot easier.

You are dealing with people with feelings at a very stressful time in their life’s. Your terminology is not clear some times. Why charge for everything when you have not met my needs.

Would not recommend this company when overall I felt let down and confused by it all.

The Previous review which I have now removed reflected my personal experience with Brethertons and findings contained in the Legal Ombudsman's Case assessment from November 2025.
Brethertons has agreed with the case assessment that they made a currency error on my consent order and have not rectified the error and they were unreasonable.
I have now sent a letter to Brethertons to encourage negotiations towards compensation for my loss and I have removed the previous accurate personal account as an act of good will towards successful negotiations.

The review I have removed is based on personal experience of the cost, financial and emotional of the error which Bretherton's has now admitted responsibility for.

Having decided that we should arrange our Will's we contacted Brethertons and were immediately impressed with the information and details we received. We were allocated Amber Morris as our solicitor and from our first meeting she was very polite, understanding and extremely professional. Throughout the process she explained everything to us and dealt with all of our queries promptly and clearly. Whilst the fees are not unsubstantial the service all round was excellent and we would not hesitate to recommend Brethertons and Amber.

Used the fixed price divorce service. Helpful and clear guidance throughout. This is an online service (not face to face) and signing some of the necessary online documents with my technology was a struggle for me

We used Brethertons for conveyancing of a house sale following probate. We would recommend them wholeheartedly for their professionalism, and helpfulness in getting things moving when required.
