We purchased our two standard poodles, Max and Clifford, from a AKC registered breeder when they were three months old. Upon registering them with AKC I was offered AKC pet insurance for a one month trial, which I accepted. When the time was about to expire my husband and I decided to continue with the insurance for both of the boys. Of course, you never know how the results of this kind of insurance will be until you have to use it, but since it was AKC we took a chance, hoping we would never have to use it.
Kind of like using your seat belt, you hope you never need it, but you use it anyway.

On December 16, 2019, my one year old standard poodle, Clifford, started acting strange. The next morning when he went out to go potty I noticed his urine was red. I immediately took him to our family vet and was told hours later that Clifford's RBC was at 11 and his bilirubin was 94, he was given prednisone and I was told to watch him and that he might need a transfusion. The next morning his urine was bright red and thick. I called the vet and told her I wanted Clifford to have a transfusion right away. I was directed to West Vet Emergency Hospital. Clifford was not well at all. The doctor came out and explained what was going on with Clifford and that it would cost between $3,500 and $4,000. We were able to say YES because we knew we had the insurance but couldn't remember all of the details. This estimate turned out to be VERY low and in fact reached over $12,000, and that he would be on some very expensive meds for some time, including Predisone, Plavix and Cyclosporine.

Clifford was in ICU at the hospital for 12 nights, during which time he had sonograms, exrays, nasal feeding tube and intravenous tubes in three legs, and many blood transfusions. He had been diagnosed with AMHA, an immunity disorder without any direct
known causes. Visiting Clifford every day was hard because he couldn't even stand up. Seeing him on Christmas night, he finally did stand, but still was not eating.

I cannot possibly tell anyone what a relief and blessing it was, Thanks to AKC Pet Insurance, to be able to tell the hospital to do whatever was necessary and provide all Clifford needed because all we wanted was to take our boy home.

When we were finally able to take Clifford home we were told that no one expected that Clifford would ever leave the hospital and that most people would never be able to shoulder the expense of such and intensive and long treatment.

Today is January 28, 2020 and Clifford is home and doing much better but is needed blood tests every two weeks to monitor his progress and is still on all the medications.

With some wariness I submitted the vet bill. I was never called, emailed or questioned by AKC Pet Insurance, but within two weeks of Clifford returning home there was a check in the mail from AKC!
They have continued to promptly respond and reimburse for all of Clifford's follow up visits, blood tests and medications without question!

Again, what a true blessing to be able to care for our furbaby without the added anxiety of whether we are able to afford for his care and recovery, or having to make the horrible decision that would come with the inability to pay for his care.

I have strongly encouraged all pet owners I know to make this small investment in their pets. Our dogs are an integral part of our family and we want to treat them as such. I would also encourage people to take a very hard look at AKC Pet Insurance and their coverage options and prices. I received an advertisement in my email just yesterday and looked at it. It worked out to be twice as much as AKC, but with a $200 deductible instead of $100, with a max of $30,000 annual.

Our otterhound was fine Friday night. Saturday morning at 7, it was clear he was dying. We were instructed to go to the vet ER. Because of the quick actions of the vet, and quick approval by AKC Pet Insurance, our dog survived blue green algae. The incident took place over 72 hours, during which we transported him from the ER in Omaha to Kansas State Vet School. AKC Pet insurance needed to approve numerous requests for treatment. The vets told us our dog had a 5% probability of living. Thanks to the fast action of the vets we worked with and quick decisions by AKC, our dog lived! We are very glad our breeder worked with AKC and we kept the policy active.

I find AKC pet insurance a great help to defray the cost of my pets Vet care, I would recommend this insurance, I find what is covered to be reasonable and fair. I have added all the extra options that I felt would suit me at this time in my pets life cycle. Claims are processed promptly and explanation of benefits paid easy to understand. Thanks
AKC and glad I decided on pet insurance with AKC this past year.

Do Not waist your money or time. They make up definition for other reasons than what your pet had done at the vet. You will have to fight to get your monody back.

I have had AKC Pet Insurance for more than a year now and am very happy with my decision. Two surgeries and one specialist on board has made this extremely helpful. My only grip is in owning a Great Dane I was surprised they did not cover the tack when I had her spayed. Owning a giant breed veterinarians have always recommended the procedure to aid in the prevention of bloat which is a fatal condition. Too I keep Brinn on heart worm and flea and tick preventative year round. With the weight requirement dose I found myself reaching my limit by the 10th month. There customer service representative Matt is awesome and his customer service skills are bar none. He is so knowledgeable and kind. Overall AKC Pet Insurance has taken great care of Brinn and I. Thank you and looking forward to many more years!

Absolutely phenomenal pet insurance! My lab puppy ended up having grade 5 bilateral elbow dysplasia and the AKC insurance I bought has covered 2 surgeries and physical therapy!
I bought the genetic/orthopedic/cancer policy knowing labs are susceptible to these issues.
I called the AKC insurance customer service when first signing up for a plan to make sure I understood fully what the insurance plan covered as I was skeptical but they could not have been nicer or taken more time to explain everything to me. They helped me choose the right plan for my Labrador. 6 months later the worst thing happened, my perfect lab pup was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia.
As of December 2019, the AKC insurance I bought has covered 17,000 in reimbursements toward my lab pup’s medical costs. I was able to take my pup to one of the best orthopedic surgeons in the country after the first surgery either failed or her disease progressed and she was still limping severely.
I can not say enough great things about this insurance company! And reimbursements came within a week of submitting my vet invoices!

Joke of insurance policy. The Exceptions for coverage are written so they can deny practically everything.

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. Our 1 year old pup has had to have 2 total hip replacement surgeries and now a knee surgery all by a phenomenal specalist from Blue Pearl (5 stars for them). AKC did not and will not cover any of those ($20,000 when its all said and done) even though we have the premium package and our fur babies are AKC Good Citizen Certified. They lead you on into thinking you are fully covered but then fill you in on a 30-180 day waiting period, hidden fees, etc. After the poor customer service displayed by the AKC staff, we ended up canceling our coverage and they offered a $50 reimbursement which yes was appreciated, but at the end of the day, not enough. We would do any and everything for our dogs but unfortunately I can't say the same about AKC. Save your money and find a different pet insurance company. Just sad.

AKC Pet Insurance is well worth the premium. It provides me with peace of mind knowing I can get the care my dogs need without panicking over the cost. Claims are very easy to submit and reimbursement is sent promptly. I know it is there when we need it!

Great experience with customer service and online platform. Only giving 4 stars because unlike trupanion and like all the other providers, you have to pay the total cost and then reimburse. Would be great if AKC pet insurance integrate with doctors and hospitals and pay their share on the spot.

I got a 30 day free certificate for pet insurance. First, they denied my claim. Even though it took the process over 14 days from the day I submitted it. I think it was worthless to have a 30-day free pet insurance especially I was denied. I think they are super expensive. They charge over $100/month for two dogs just for accident and illness. I pay $60/month for two dogs from somewhere else. Then they have a pet wellness plan offered but it's only an additional cost on top of the accidental and illness plan. It would nice if they offered the pet wellness plan as a separate plan. I thought this insurance being part of the AKC...it would be affordable and worth it. But when you get denied and its expensive....at the end it's not worth it. I think you're paying the name "AKC" I definitely would NOT recommend this insurance company!

The insurance plan I have is supposed to cover heart worm prevention and flea and tick prevention.
I do not buy through my vet because it is less expensive to go through Chewy's or 1-800-Pet med. I mailed receipts and have never received a reimbursement for either for the past year.
Visits I have made to my Vet that have been faxed into the insurance company have been reimbursed at the shared rate.

Very helpful and compassionate during an extremely stressful time regarding our pet Sheltie. They went over and beyond!! Extremely knowledgable and took the time to address our many concerns! Great service!!

I recently had to euthanize my beloved dog. The people at Pet Partners couldn't have been kinder in helping me get the medical papers from the veterinarian hospitals to them and/or contacting the hospitals themselves. I hadn't used their services in a long time and wasn't prepared to put everything together while still suffering from my loss.

Very easy to place claims, all you have to do is scan your vet receipt and type a brief summary for it.

The representatives are responsive and I have been very pleased with the timeliness of claims processing.

Staff is always helpful and the claims are processed quickly.
