Very bad experience at Hammersmith Admiral Casino
I had a very bad experience at Hammersmith Admiral Casino. I was playing one of the games offered on their slot machines. In most cases, these machines pay out little or nothing. The only way to win some money back, or recover part of what you have already lost, is by triggering a bonus feature.
The maximum bonus prize can be up to £500. Bonuses are not given away for free. With every button press, customers lose their own money or, more accurately, pay for a chance to trigger a bonus. It is common for customers to lose hundreds of pounds without ever receiving one.
Last month, after already losing a considerable amount of money, I finally triggered a bonus feature on one of the games. This was my opportunity to win an amount of up to £500. However, after only two spins of the bonus round, my machine—the only one among many slot machines in Admiral Casino—suddenly shut down completely. Strange, isn't it? Perhaps it was just a coincidence, but the timing was certainly suspicious.
I immediately informed a member of staff and explained what had happened. He restarted the machine. When it came back on, my balance showed the amount I had before the bonus started, but the bonus feature itself had disappeared.
Along with the bonus, I lost my opportunity to win up to £500—an opportunity for which I had effectively paid by spending a significant amount of my own money in order to trigger that bonus.
The employee checked the CCTV footage and the casino's system records. The system confirmed that I had triggered the bonus and also showed that the machine had shut down after two spins of the bonus round. The employee personally confirmed this to me. He took my details and told me that the matter would be passed on to a manager for a decision. I was asked to return the following day for an answer.
The next day, I was told that if something happens to a slot machine during gameplay, Admiral Casino is not responsible. In other words, they washed their hands of the situation.
From my perspective, Admiral Casino took money from me for the chance to receive a bonus during gameplay. When I finally triggered that bonus, the machine suddenly shut down just after it began—even though there were many other machines operating normally in the casino. Instead of accepting responsibility, they blamed the machine itself, despite the fact that these machines generate substantial profits for the casino year after year.
Rather than taking responsibility for what I hope is a very rare incident, apologising to the customer, and offering some form of compensation, Admiral Casino effectively punished the customer by taking away the bonus and any potential winnings associated with it.
In my opinion, this demonstrates a lack of accountability and customer care. It raises serious questions about the company's ethics and priorities. The impression I was left with is that profit matters more than fairness.
And don't be fooled by the free coffee, biscuits, and friendly smiles. Ultimately, customers pay for those perks with their own money. The business model is designed to encourage people to stay longer, continue gambling, and spend more money, often at significant personal cost.
