What happened with your software during the writing of my 42-chapter manuscript was deeply distressing. The document appeared to save correctly, yet recovery versions were incomplete, and repeated upgrade and read-only prompts created confusion about what had actually been saved.

For a disabled user, this is not a minor annoyance. It creates genuine fear of losing important work and places extra strain on people who already face barriers using technology. Someone with more severe accessibility limitations than mine could easily lose years of work because of these practices.

I believe the way WPS Office handles saving, recovery, upgrade prompts, and document restrictions is unethical and harmful to users. Software that people trust with important creative work should never create uncertainty about whether their documents are truly safe.

You should be ashamed that your product design creates this kind of stress and risk for accessibility users and writers who depend on reliable saving behaviour.

Very terrible experience with purchasing WPS office on 03/4/26.

I paid $ 69.99 on 03/04/26 for two years usage, however it only allowed me to use one week then WPS kept stopping my printer running by stopping Print Spooler to force me to pay again to upgrading.

I even did not get 30 days trail.

Also kept doing subscription from my bank card every 3-5 days for $169.99. I had to cancel my bank card.

My receipt number is 2964-6630.

As a long-term user of WPS Office, I have appreciated the suite as a practical tool for my personal projects and documentation. However, I have encountered a frustrating behavior where a bundled "WPS Photo" component takes over my image files (.png and .jpg) without my consent.
Every time I manually reset my preference to the standard Windows "Photos" app, WPS would "repair" the association back to itself the moment I restarted my computer. It felt like my own choices were being ignored by the software, and it became a significant daily headache.

After looking into why this was happening, I discovered that WPS uses a background "watchdog" process and a hidden bridge file to monitor and revert user settings. Because this file is tucked away in a versioned folder within the User AppData directory, it is very difficult to find using a standard search.

If you are facing this issue, you do not need to uninstall the entire office suite. You simply need to break the redirect chain by neutralizing the specific file that intercepts your image requests. Here is the fix:

LOCATE THE FILE:
Navigate to your local AppData folder. The path will look like this (replace [User] with your Windows username):
C:\Users[User]\AppData\Local\Kingsoft\WPS Office[VersionNumber]\office6\

IDENTIFY THE FILE:
Look for a file named: photolaunch.exe

NEUTRALIZE IT:
Rename that file to: photolaunch.exe.bak
(Note: If it says the file is in use, close any open WPS windows first).

RESET YOUR DEFAULTS:
Right-click any image > Open with > Choose another app > Select "Photos" and check the box "Always use this app to open .png files."

By renaming the file to a .bak extension, you pull the plug on the "watchdog." When WPS tries to force itself back as the default, it finds a dead end, and Windows is finally able to honor your choice.

WPS Office is a capable suite, but forcing these associations is a breach of user trust. Software should serve the user, not override their preferences. If you want your computer to stay organized your way, this simple bit of maintenance is the way to go.

UPDATE (May 2026):
Please be aware that whenever WPS Office updates to a new version (e.g., jumping from version 12.1.0.25862 to 12.1.0.26372), it will create a new folder and reinstall a fresh photolaunch.exe. When this happens, the "hijacking" behavior will return because the software ignores the .bak file in the old version folder.

To fix this after an update:

Navigate back to your AppData\Local\Kingsoft\WPS Office\ folder.

Look for the newest version number folder.

Repeat the rename process (rename the new photolaunch.exe to .bak).

I’ve found that using PowerShell is the fastest way to find the new "hiding spot" for this file after an update. It’s a bit of extra digital maintenance, but it’s the only way to keep your desktop truly yours.

Why the F would you pay to save a freaking file? These company needs to rethink their decisions.

Misleading free trial and auto-renewal.
Signed up for the free trial and forgot to cancel before it ended. Was immediately charged for a full subscription without any clear reminder or warning that the trial period was expiring.

The auto-renewal is enabled by default and not transparent enough. It feels designed to charge users who miss the cancellation window. Customer support is slow to respond.

Should send email reminders before charging. Uninstalling and looking for alternatives with clearer expectations

This is the only app that I willingly searched online to leave a bad review. It wasted so much of my time.

Just want to install it and see how it works.
The installation process was filled with landmines.
Be sure to look through every single page, or else your computer will fill with unrelated BS, just like what used to be when installing Adobe Acrobat would get Norton security installed at the same time, but worse.
Now, about the user experiment, I have Microsoft Office as my default option for my school work, yet it messes up my default settings, changing the file icon and inserting some BS into Microsoft Office that requires deleting the Windows registry to remove.
The comment on the uninstall process is just like something above when installing the application. Be sure to look through EVERY single page and EVERY single lines. Good luck at uninstalling WPS since the words are confusing as hack to prevent you from actually uninstall it and blindly clicking continue will get you to nowhere or end up having more BS on your computer.
If I can, I will give it a 0.00001 star out off 5 star.
Just install Libre office if you want to replace Microsoft Office!

I had a very poor experience using WPS Office and wouldn’t recommend it.

The software felt unstable and glitchy during use, with frequent issues that disrupted my workflow. It didn’t perform reliably on my device, and at times it seemed to slow things down rather than help productivity. I also ran into problems that made the overall experience frustrating enough that I stopped using it altogether.

If you’re looking for a dependable office suite, I’d suggest considering alternatives. Based on my experience, this one simply isn’t worth the hassle.

Deceiving subscription practice! They offered P349 for one month which I am okay with, since I only need it for 1 week. To my surprise, I was charged for 3 months! That was NOT shown in the checkout page. I reached out to the support team to ask for a refund for the 2 months that were billed, and they refused to refund me despite sending a screenshot of the checkout page indicating that it's for one month only; no mention of 3 months or the total amount for 3 months. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE. Mind you, when you send an email to their support team, there's no automated email to indicate that they've received the email and no ticket number, so you can't follow through!

I have used the product free for over five years with no issues, I had no demands for payment or files corrupted or files lost in that period. It always opens files easily with correct formatting from other formats. It is the best replacement for Microsoft Office and totally free to use with free cloud backup. Highly recommended.

Too many background processes that will re-open automatically every time, even if the cloud service and the main app is closed. Around 300 MB of ram usage with the app and cloud closed, this is BS.

Customer care is not existent whatsoever.

Will definitely look for a better open-source alternative.
