Unacceptable service
I've called no less than 10 times for 3 days in a row to book my motorbike in for it first service. Been asked for my phone number and been told someone will call me back
Every time same lie. I understand they may be busy but 3 days 10 calls not even a reply to tell me something at least. Shame and unacceptable ☹️☹️
Buy from Wheels Peterborough at your discretion!
This is a slightly odd, but very long review because, from what was a very pleasant purchase of a new Aprilia RSV4 RF in April 2019 from Wheels, it sadly, at my expense turned into an extremely unpleasant and costly experience recently, as a result as I see, as gross misconduct from the mechanics of Wheels Peterborough, and the assembly of & sale/ aftersales of the bike I bought from them.
In short, what was blatantly a build error by Wheels mechanics, unfortunately took 5 years to manifest itself. The rear hub (which the rear sprocket is bolted to and should be suitably torqued to), of my RSV4 was not suitably assembled or torqued. This RSV4 was pampered by me and was rarely ridden in my current 5+ year ownership, and to date, has only covered 2,300 miles. As I live in SE London, taking it to Wheels in Peterborough for servicing wasn’t practical, especially when I tried to book the first 600-mile service with them and was told I had to wait 4 weeks for a booking, in July/ August 2019. Wheels offer a lifetime warranty on their new bikes sold, as long as you have them fully maintained in-house. In hindsight, a 4-week wait would have ultimately saved me over £2000 this year.
So, my bike was regularly serviced during its 5-year life by a well-known Aprilia Main Dealer in Croydon, and, a key point here, given its 2300 mile life in these years, it is still on its original rear tyre. This means that the rear wheel has never needed to have been removed, in any of the 500-mile, 1600-mile and 1900-mile services it has received in my 5 years of ownership.
So recently, I lost all drive to the rear wheel, which was a result of the hub bolts not having suitably tightened and torque-marked, unlike every other main fixing on the bike. Every bolt still shows the painted torque mark from when built new, but the 10 hub bolts cannot be seen, as they are hidden behind the rear sprocket. This resulted in 7 of the 10 bolts completely coming undone from their nuts, leaving the remaining three, under the torque generated by the engine under load, to elongate the wheel bolt apertures, ultimately shearing and destroying the wheel.
A replacement wheel assembly cost me £1,500, notwithstanding the labour cost from another very well known and respected Aprilia dealer, who verified the above malpractice in build/ sales of a new vehicle.
Once I contacted Wheels on this matter, the formal response from Darren Doig, Wheels Sales Manager was;
“Good Afternoon Mr Benedetti,
Thank you for your e-mail dated 14th June 2024 detailed below.
I am sorry to read you have had an issue with your Aprilia you purchased from us.
I have looked into the points you have raised.
I do not agree that Wheels Peterborough is responsible for the failure the bike has suffered for the following reasons:-
• We have not seen the bike since you purchased it over 5 years ago and have had it serviced and maintained elsewhere.
• As we have not serviced or maintained the bike, we cannot be responsible for the failure after it has been worked on by a 3rd party.
• If the bolts were not correctly torqued at purchase, they would have failed before now.
I would suggest you refer your complaint to Moto Croydon who have carried out the service & maintenance on the bike.”
Please look at all the attached photos, observing yellow paint torque marks (and lack of), and make your own mind up about buying a bike from Wheels, Peterborough.
On a final note, when I spoke to Phil Wilcox (who sold me the bike), before I officially lodged my complaint, he said it would have to be taken up with Aprilia UK. I asked him to quantify this, as the issue clearly lay with Wheels mechanics, and he replied that all complaints have to go through Aprilia UK. Let’s hope Aprilia UK read this review and take it up with the management at Wheels Peterborough.
Buy from, and have your bike maintained by, Wheels Peterborough, at your absolute discretion!! The photos speak for themselves but moreover, the vehicle build quality control at Wheels Peterborough!
Highly recommend
From initial contact to the bike being delivered right to my door the guys and girls at wheels motorcycles were absolutely fantastic. The walk around video showed any minor imperfections but an otherwise extremely well looked after bike. I was extremely happy when I seen it in person and It is mechanically perfect. Any question I had were replied to very quickly and nothing was to much trouble. I would highly recommend giving them a shout if your in the market for a very high quality motorcycle from genuinely nice people
I bought an Aprilia Tuono V4 factory…
I bought an Aprilia Tuono V4 factory from salesman Joe Scott. From start to finish, he was extremely professional and looked after me really well :) the bike is in lovely condition plus it comes with a lifetime warranty. I couldn’t be more happy Well done, Wheels motorcycles ..
Amazingly quick delivery
Amazingly quick delivery. I had visited earlier in the day and was really supported by the staff there, but wasn’t sure - as soon as I got home I ordered online and they arrived the next day. MotoGirl Dungarees are very comfortable and functional. Recommended. True to size.
After sales and quality of vehicle sold very poor.
Absolutely amazing at point of enquiry and sale and some really decent helpful staff but this is organisation and business protection first and customer second. At point of sales emphasis on selling and how few problems a Zero electric bike would cause. There were many problems and expensive repairs. I had a naivety in not checking the 3 pin plug charger within the warranty period. I lived on a 5th floor so never tried this charge function in warranty period. First time I plugged it in to charge off kettle lead all fuses blew. Wheels replaced the kettle lead and next time I plugged it in it blew mains power supply. Wheels say the 3 pin charger worked. I know it didn't and as outside warranty period Wheels would replace charging unit at a cost of 1k. I refused. Also problems with Zero and parts so really long delays until parts came in so off the road for long periods. First time I needed to replace the front tyre the wheel spindle was damaged and had to be cut off and replaced and tyre replaced. While in for this work for over a month the assessment of the bike failed to notice the drive belt had damaged and broken teeth and when I pointed this out they said yes the belt needs replacing and then had to order the belt. The belt they fitted lasted 500 miles before it snapped. The replaced belt has cracks on it and with only 2000 miles approx done for a belt designed to do 24k average the Zero technicians and Wheels say it's safe and ok. I've left a review as Wheels refuse to do business with me as I raised a complaint about the bike under the Consumer Protection Act 2015 and this reached Alternate Dispute Resolution and the Dispute service found in favour of Wheels. Despite rear brakes needing replacement and bike unsafe to ride Wheels wouldn't replace and I have to ride to another garage. They say safety is their priority and I feel it is unethical to refuse to do works and send a bike on the road. All in all a pretty awful purchase and sadly really difficult experiences and challenges and that's not even mentioning returning the bike to me more than once not charged up and so I had to sit there for a couple of hours post collection to charge. Wheels never shared ending retail relationship with Zero and so there's a dishonesty and lack of trust associated. I have one final trip to Peterborough to recover bike next week.
As a final advice you will be bowled over by sales communication. After sales. Helpful but definitely not as customer focussed in my experience.
Other retailers are available. Don't rush and shop around.
Brilliant service and good prices
Biggest scammers in the industry £100s…
Biggest scammers in the industry £100s out of pocket and when call to speak to staff have phone slammed down on me. Kept my money and my item.... AVOID at all costs
Horrendous. Reported to bank fraud team for investigation
Purchase made online via wheels motorcycles eBay storefront. The short version is that we made a £400 purchase, it was not delivered safely. They have claimed against the courier but we have not received any refund from them despite no goods arriving and they have been horrendous with hanging up the phone on us, refusing to discuss the matter, withholding the courier claim investigations info and refusing to share it.
Full details below.
Courier dumped package at door on main road when house was empty. tracking proof is a photo at closed door. contacted wheels via eBay where the purchase was made to report it wasn't here when we got home. Courier investigation was raised by wheels motorcycles with their courier DPD. A few days later wheels motorcycles raised a case escalation with eBay to close the eBay case we had opened based on the fact there was simply a tracking number. They also made a bizzare written claim in their eBay message without any evidence to support, that the house was not empty and that a female answered the door with a dog, closed the door and asked for the parcel to be left outside. This is a total and utter fabrication being that only 1 female, (myself) lives here and I have proof from the local gym that I was swiped in for and attending an hour long exercise class at the time the attempted delivery was made. So an absolute fallacy. Have an email from the gym with the swipe in info from the system attached confirming I was in attendance. They also accused us of having CCTV (which we don't).
eBay bots auto closed the case based on the fact there was a tracking number despite no signature and only a photo of box dumped at the closed door. Wheels motorcycles therefore kept the money despite non receipt of goods. We contacted wheels on the phone three times to be presented with an eBay sided with us attitude it's your own problem to sort out with courier and put the phone down each time. I have phone recordings of the calls to demonstrate how rude they were to us. On the last call we were told management have told us not to talk to you and again phone hung up on us.
Our contract for goods was with wheels motorcycles the retailer, not with the courier. Wheels motorcycles have no regard for this at all and totally disregard their legal obligation to make sure the customer receives the goods they've paid for. They just fob us off saying sort it out with the courier. When we call the courier they correctly state that our contract is with wheels motorcycles not with them, and it's the responsibility of wheels as the retailer to refund us. It's only their responsibility to deal with the claim that their client (wheels) has made.
The courier driver who incorrectly delivered the package to us has since visited us and shown us on his phone an email that his pay has been docked as a result of the investigation being decided in favour of wheels motorcycles.
We have not received a penny of a refund from wheels as present. We have received an ebay message from wheels 24hrs after being hung on up multiple times on the phone and the message states that the courier case is not concluded. This conflicts with the info we have been shown on the driver's phone.
We have now passed this over to our bank fraud team with and will also be reporting wheels motorcycles to both trading standards and HMRC.
Right bunch of Cowboys
brought a bike via the internet the bike was a triumph speed triple with what they said was full service history but on the 12k service it had just written in it oil, oil filter that was it this is when the valve clearances should have been done, after 10 days of having the bike it developed a missfire which in turn made the engine sound louder, contacted wheels they collected the bike after having it for two weeks they delivered it back to me saying there is nothing wrong with the bike so the bike was still the same after riding the bike for about another 2 weeks to and from work and the occasional ride out, it then became more difficult to ride at slow speed so contacted wheels again who basically said i was lying.
but one of the customer services team booked the bike in to be collected.
so it was collected again about a week later they had the bike for another 17 days before it was returned with the same problem. i took the bike to a triumph dealer near me and the list of problems they diagnosed came to a total of £2.650.47 so the bike should never have been sold in the first place.
this is when i rejected the bike and after 9 months of fighting the finance company have given me the money back only because i got the financial ombudsman involved.
i advise you not to purchase a bike form these cowboys. all they want is your money and then your on your own.
DISGRACEFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE / AFTER CAREWhen you are there to buy a brand new…
When you go to WHEELS to buy a brand new bike the staff could not be more helpful. My son is 19 years old and worked a Saturday job to save up enough money to be able to buy a brand new bike. He did this so that he felt safe & secure in the knowledge that if he had any issues at all, he would be in good hands. This is not what happened, nowhere near. All I can say is that 'Wheels' is extremely helpful when you want to buy a bike but not so much when you need their help if something goes wrong. They will come up with every excuse possible to avoid having anything fixed or even looked at under warranty. They continuously state that you need to read the user manual but when asked where to find certain information, which page to look at they have no idea and cannot answer the question. No matter what you say, it is like banging your head against a brick wall, nothing is heard. My son has been treated disgracefully, dismissed without a second thought and basically hung out to rot. WHEELS, you should be ashamed. Please think carefully before you purchase a bike from this company.
