My wife was introduced to the Wesleyan because it was recommended to her as a teacher. They were supposed to be experts when it came to understanding teachers Pensions.
Indeed one of their financial advisers did help considerably with the Teachers Pension application process as well as recommending some investment products.
However 6 years later when we attempted to make some decisions independently without one of their advisers it has been a nightmare.
We have tried to make 3 transactions in the last 6 months and each time it has taken so long for anything to happen that the only way forward was to complain to get things moving. Once the 3 complaints were made suddenly everything started to work as it should do.
It all started with withdrawing a pension lump sum last year. In spite of may calls and messages nothing happened and it seemed that every time we called, the Wesleyan member of staff was working at home and didn't have any sense of urgency. After complaining, suddenly everything was resolved.
Then earlier this year we attempted to withdraw the remaining sum from the pension ( a small pot, so in theory a simple transaction). In this case it wasn't even possible to get through to the pension team. On one occasion we were kept on hold for about 50 minutes and then there was a message saying they were unable to take the call and we were cut off. More attempts to get through were unsuccessful. Once again we complained and suddenly within 24 hours they called us and did the transaction over the phone with no issues.
Finally over 2 weeks ago some of this pension pot was reinvested as a lump sum top up in a Wesleyan With Profits Stocks and shares Isa ( which we already had set up). We expected this to be a straightforward transaction and did it online using a test amount of money first and then 2 more payments all on the same day. The money was deposited over 2 weeks ago and left my wife's account on the same day yet there has been no follow up apart from yesterday and the money still has not appeared in my wife's account. When we telephoned ( you need to telephone at 9;00am otherwise you will be waiting a long time) the staff member ( also working from home) apologised but then when she tried to get in touch with the investment team to get an update she was unable to.
Once again we have complained (yesterday) and got a response the same day promising to speed up the process. We take no joy in complaining but it seems to be a trigger word where things actually get done.
We shall see how this progresses as the money is still not in the account as of this morning.
It has to be mentioned that in each case The Wesleyan agreed with our complaints, offered an apology and a small compensatory payment but it's sad that this is the only way to get things moving.
It seemed strange to see so many positive reviews on Trustpilot given our experience with them but now we see a pattern and know why. If you use one of their financial advisers and pay their commission you will probably get a decent service . However a warning to everyone, one day when you decide to either deposit or withdraw money independently without one of their financial advisers be prepared to see how slow this organisation works and how difficult it is to speak to them.
It's sad because as most people say, the initial help from their advisers is good but then it all seems to go downhill.
We are waiting to see when money deposited 15 days ago will finally appear in the intended account.

I was put in contact with Manjit Chopra as my sole contact. You get genuine individual help from the start . On my first meeting Manjit was attentive and very professional. She was also extremely supportive and patient with all my questions.
