Very poor customer service
Sykes holiday cottages (booked through Vrbo) took too much money out of my account for a holiday we booked. They have promised me a refund of the overpayment (£295.02) for the last 3 weeks and I still have not received anything despite numerous phone calls.

VRBO’s “Booking Guarantee” Provided No Protection After We Found Extensive Black Mold
Our experience with VRBO was incredibly disappointing.
The property we stayed in was filthy and had extensive black mold. I documented the conditions with photographs and contacted both the property owner and VRBO. The owner has not responded, and VRBO informed us that because the owner refuses to issue a refund, there is essentially nothing they will do.
What makes this especially frustrating is that VRBO advertises a booking guarantee, which gave us confidence that we would have some protection if a property was unsafe or significantly different from what was advertised. Based on our experience, that “guarantee” provided us with no meaningful protection at all.
We paid for a property that was in unacceptable condition, provided photographic documentation, and still have been left to absorb the cost.
I would not use VRBO again. If you are choosing between vacation rental platforms, I would strongly recommend looking at other options where customer protection is taken more seriously.
**UPDATE:** After posting my review, I received an email offering me a **$75 “key credit” and asking me to update my review.** I find this incredibly disappointing and, frankly, insulting.
My complaint involved filthy conditions, including **black mold**, and my concern that VRBO failed to stand behind the guarantee it advertises. Offering a $75 credit while asking me to revise my review does nothing to address the actual issue or restore my confidence in their guarantee.
Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage others to save themselves the frustration and look elsewhere when booking a vacation rental.

We spent a very enjoyable 4 night stay in Ilfracombe. The apartment is obviously newly refurbished, everything was new and clean, and very comfortable. Ilfracombe is very hilly but from the apartment it was a reasonably flat 10-15 minute walk to the harbour, passing numerous shops and cafes on the way. Lidl was only a 5 minute walk in the other direction.
Lara, the host, was very friendly and helpful and we would have no hesitation in staying here again.

The Landmark Hotel is shit hole hotel not the cool castle as in the pictures
The Landmark Hotel in Scotland is a shit hole hotel and not the cool castle type building as shown. Also there is no apartment, stove, cooktop, or regular refrigerator. This is a dirty broken furniture crappy hotel room and this is not what I paid for. This is not acceptable!

This is possibly the worst apartment we have ever stayed in
This is possibly the worst apartment we have ever stayed in. The experience started when we arrived in an absolutely awful area; fighting , screaming, the smell of drugs...
We then tried to get in to the apartment and were given a door code. But we weren't given a key. We contacted Expedia who gave us the Hosts number. The Host refused to speak to use so after a few hours one of the other tenants was kind enough to let us in. The site itself is awful, dirty, untidy and very poor.
We continued communication with the Host who blatantly denied that a key was required.
2 days later we finally got a key.
The whole experience was traumatic and stressful; this place is definitely not a penthouse suite!

I suggest that you have people go and look at some of these apartments from time to time to check they are up to standard as you are still saying the apartment on your site and it is absolutely disgusting.
