Provide all details on line only to be told have to speak to someone on phone - passed from pillar to post. Representative speaking really fast causing confusion, trying to get you to add all the extras you've just said no to online. Then dump you through to a recorded message going through all the terms and conditions, which goes on and on and on with no idea when it will come to an end. Needed to make a significant change to my policy the very next day, £45 fee applied, and no such thing as a 14 day cooling off period despite it being in their terms and conditions. We can waive all fees so long as you take out a new policy with us, with a significantly larger deposit than you'd already paid. Absolute joke of a company
Updated review 4/3/26 - contacted by Complaints team following their review of this experience. They apologised for the experience and confirmed that the info provided re no 14 day cooling off period was incorrect. They have taken feedback regarding informing customers who complete the online form that they will still likely need 'validating' by a person before the point that you commit and pay your deposit! They also reduced the premium as way of an apology. Appreciate the extra effort that they went to to listen to my concerns and try and put it right.

Revised review- I took out a policy and had issues with getting repeated phone calls from this company, I spoke to a number of people at customer support who assured me the problem was resolved. Sadly it hadn’t so I left a 1 star review. To be fair to this company, I was then contacted the next day and my issue was resolved. Many thanks to Charlie Byrne customer experience director who solved my problem and has restored my faith in them.

After my review I had a phone call from VanCompare and they were very nice and we resolved the issue, I do think insurance companies do generally rip the general public off but that is not VanCompares fault

I hadn’t reviewed my insurance policy for a few years, but when I received my recent renewal price, I was shocked at how high it had become. That prompted me to shop around.
I quickly received quotes from another broker that were around 45% cheaper for similar cover. When I called to question my renewal price, the representative was suddenly able to reduce my premium to almost match the competing quote.
This leaves me wondering — why was I being charged so much more in the first place? If such a large reduction was possible all along, it doesn’t inspire confidence or trust.

Update from previous. Van compare got in contact and have looked into the issue with the amount of false calls. They will continue to monitor. Thanks to Charlie for looking into this.
