Although my claim was handled very competently and my contact was very polite and helpful, I was disturbed that I only received reimbursement for delayed luggage even though I never received my bag and I had told the airline that my airtag showed that it never left JFK . I had to go to JFK to retrieve my bag after I returned home. I think this claim compensation should have been for lost luggage.

I have purchased Trip Insurance many times, and this was the first time I needed to use it. Thank you to the company for making this a better experience than anticipated. I do recommend this Trip Insurance Company.

A very expensive trip and unexpected illness is really stressful, not knowing how well the claim process would work for me. I never spoke with anyone at TripMate. I read the information, followed the instructions, submitted and waited. I was pleasantly surprised with the turnaround and payment process. If I have any complaint, it would be that the cost of the insurance might be less expensive. I definitely will use TripMate for future travel.

The application process was easy to follow so when I submitted my documentation it was complete. When I did have a question the person I spoke with answered it clearly and professionally. I was able to follow along to see where my application was in the process. Best of all I got my check quickly! I will purchase all future travel insurance with Travel Mate

I am from insurance industry, and I believe in insurance on any device, person etc. But Trip Mate is a scam. It functions like a scam. They make money by denying every document or claim you present. I WOULD NOT GET ANY INSURANCE from this company. Don't waste your money.

I have seen many reviews from users online wrt to their Trip Mate experiences/claims. I am happy to report that my experience has been great. I spent the time to work between Viking and Trip Mate to get to my resolution for my claim and am living proof that the Trip Mate expense is worth my Peace of Mind while traveling. I will be buying it on all of my Viking Travels.

Purchase Trip Mate insurance for my daughter's school trip to New York. Unfortunately, she got sick a few days before and was unable to attend. It was a very easy process to file a claim. Also, having visibility to claim status was great. The process was easy and claim was processed quickly. Overall, a great experience.

My wife and I booked a bucket list tour through Smartours to go to Italy for our 30th Anniversary. Tripmate was the recommended travel insurance. Smartours closed down suddenly at end of January. We got back approximately half our deposits from Smartours and submitted a claim to tripmate for the balance. They denied the claim citing that the closure of a tour operator is not a covered event. We were shocked and completely outraged. How could the sudden closure of the company not be covered. When we called, the representative was completely useless. We demanded to talk to one of the examiners, but was told they don't have phones and are busy denying... oh sorry I mean reviewing claims. After going in circles we finally hung up. I would think this would be just the perfect scenario for travel insurance. We are not giving up yet. I have contacted the state Division of Insurance and they are opening a case to investigate the claim. I will also be looking into other avenues to get a more favorable outcome. Tripmate is owned or a division of Generali Global Assistance. They had revenue of $1.85 Billion. With that much revenue maybe the CEO Chris Carnicelli and other employees can afford to be out thousands of dollars, but this is a serious and devastating situation for us. I would have thought that the $850 policy premium would cover a situation such as this. So please avoid this company. Google other better rated companies such as Faye or Travelex. Tripmate does not seem to be on any list. Happy travels.

Purchased TripMate for a trip to Oahu and had a medical emergency midway through the trip. TripMate covered my expenses not covered by my health insurance. The claim process is complicated and drawn-out requiring printing out forms and providing proof of expenses incurred with paperwork and your doctor’s sign-off. I was able to provide my e-paperwork from my online medical reports from MyChart, and copies of bills and claims. Then you must mail the all the proof of paperwork by US mail. It was a pain gathering all the proof but I was reimbursed in full for my expenses that added up to more than $700. Satisfied customer.

Our American Airlines flight from Lafayette, La to Dallas, Tx on 12/10/2024 was delayed and our connecting flight from Dallas Tx to Burbank Ca was missed, so we were put on another AA flight and bumped down from business class to coach and rerouted to LAX. We had to take a bus and an Uber to get back home, many hours later. I called American the following day and was told we would be refunded the price difference from business to coach...but not to me. The refund would go to the credit card that booked the flight. I used a AAA travel agent to book the flight, who in turn used a different travel agency to charge the flight on their credit card. I agreed on travel insurance, because of the winter weather, and have used TripMate in the past. I paid AAA who in turn paid the travel agency who in turn paid American. I called AAA, the Travel Agency, American Airlines and Trip Mate to find out where my money was.
American refunded the travel agency on 12/14/2024 (they sent me a confirmation email, but strangely claimed that they could NOT tell me the amount). The travel agency said they couldn't talk to me, only the booking agent at AAA, who said that they would help. I called TripMate who emailed me the refund forms, which I filled out on 1/3/2025. They sent me an email saying they received the forms 1/7/2025. Got a link for my claim 1/29/2025. Got a letter that they needed "additional information" on 2/4/2025. Nothing specific, so I filled it out and sent it in with ALL THE RECEIPTS once again.
That's when I read their reviews about how terrible TripMate is. Then 2/12/2025 my AAA travel agent said that they will issue a price difference of $265.00 per person for the business class downgrade from Dallas to LAX. And on 2/18/2025, I got a refund. No proof from American Airlines on what was actually sent. What a disappointment and what terrible customer service.
I will never use TripMate again.

Purchased this insurance for a hiking trip to Europe. We used this company because we had purchased it two times previously for hiking trips booked through REI adventures. Fortunately we never needed to use it on those trips.
Three days into the European trip my husband suffered a stress fracture diagnosed at a hospital in England. Upon return home we contacted the insurance provider who told us what we needed to do to submit a claim. We submitted the claim which was denied because they said we did not submit all the required paperwork. When my husband talked with the agent to confirm what was needed and submitted the requested form, the claim was denied again due to additional information being needed. Once again spoke with an agent and explained it was submitted. They said it would have to be forwarded to the original agent. That pattern repeated two more times. Long story short we resubmitted all paper work 3 times and got nothing but a complete runaround. I guess they just hope they beat you down enough so you stop requesting reimbursement. So not only are we out the $800.00 dollars for the insurance, we are also out the remaining cost of our trip that we were unable to complete. I would not recommend this insurance or this carrier.

World Nomads did reach out to me and I supplied everything they asked for and they never contacted me after that. If you buy travel insurance make sure they cover unexpected travel expenses when your transportation is canceled in route. The train from Paris to Amsterdam was entirely booked for the next 3 days. We had no choice but to take a plane to get to amsterdam for our cruise.
Trip mate responds to my complaint saying that insurance can not cover all of the reasons why I might cancel some of my trip. They do not even read the review. I did not cancel anything the train was cancelled and I had to find another way to get to my destination.

They make it clear there is no human being to speak with regarding making claims. They tell companies that they have a special concierge number for their clients but no one ever answers that number. Liars. They stall and take forever. Awful experience. And you have already had a bad experience which is why you are asking for a reimbursement.

What made my experience great was a complete refund in keeping with the insurance policy. The procedure was detailed and required significant documentation with only FAQs available on their website. But, once the documents were submitted as required the refund review and payment was made in a timely way. The process seemed daunting but, by carefully following directions the obligations of the insurance contract were fully met.
