Autism Friendly - Manchester - Denny is a superstar
We went to the tough mudder today at Manchester. My daughter has autism so I was a little nervous about how she will cope and what will I do it she has a melt down as this was the first time my daughter went. I was informed at check let the staff know at the start line and they will let me on the course with my daughter to help her as it was bound to be much more challenging for her compared to the other kids taking part, to my surprise while waiting at the start up line a lovely lady named Denny came up to me and asked if I was ok and how my daughter was doing. She was made aware by the team of my daughters autism and wanted to help. I didn’t know what the helped looked like so I said yea please I would like any help you can advise me off. After you this the lady got busy supporting the rest of the team and starting the race. As the announcement was made and the warm up begin the announcer mentioned my duaghter by name and said a big good luck to her. Within a few minute of starting the race my daughter was getting overwhelmed and not doing the wrong way but still trying to participate. Denny reappeared and joined in and took over on helping my daughter. She literally took my daughters hand and helped her with each obstacle. She was ever so calm and kind and responded to my non verbal daughters gestures with a lovely smile. My daughter smothered mud all over Denny but Denny was always responded with a smile. We managed a complete the race and was ever so surprised how Denny even helped my duaghter get cleaned up after. Though mudder Manchester was absolutely brilliant and Denny was a super star. Only found out towards the Denny she was also the organiser and Designed the course. She has a love for SEN and happens to be a SEN teacher. she explains how she hen designing the course she had children of SEN in mind. We will be going annually and if anyone has autistic children please give it a go.
Wish i could give less than one star…
Wish i could give less than one star cancelled brechfa event less than 5 days before
All that training for nothing! Do not use this company
There are plenty of excellent run event companies out there
Disgraceful company
Shocking customer service.
Having entered their Manchester 2021 event (this was cancelled due to coronavirus), we received no communication at all.
I emailed to ask for a refund only to be told by their rude customer service team that they do not offer refunds.
They have re-entered our group into an event that none of us can attend on the date, and still say offering refunds is against their policy...
Avoid these cowboys at all costs
Poorly run company and events
Have entered into both a tough mudder and tough runner.
Transfer costs were almost the same as the event, despite it being a shorter event. Was extremely I’ll on second event and no offer to transfer to the following year but instead another transfer fee. Once you get to the races they are so poorly run and set out. Would not recommend. Neither challenging nor something I would ever proudly say I did. Much better off doing a race run by more competent organisers and with a more challenging course that doesn’t involve a mud pit to classify as muddy. Embarrassment to OCR culture and the basis of what OCR racing is!
Rubbish Money grabbing company
My event got cancelled due to covid and they refused to offer me a refund. Instead, they put me onto a different event that I can't attend and are still not willing to offer me a refund
15k not worth the extra ££
15k not worth the extra ££
I enjoyed my TM experience. I ran it with a mate, but everyone legitimately helps out on the challenges that require a few more hands and effort.
The extra challenges on the 15k tho were a joke. I don’t know where my money went for them, but it wasn’t on making them more fun, hard or muddy. Also once you’re off the 10k route volunteers/staff are few and far between. We found a KID running the course in his own, lost and looking on the brink of tears. We got him to the next station with staff (three or four obstacles later, but it was still a surreal experience helping him through the course that was designed for adults.
All in all, I’d potentially do it again, but not the full 15k. And looking at all the other deuces I think I’d pass on that too.
Horrible refund policy
They wont refund my tickets because of their 48 hour refund policy.
Purchased 2 Tickets Way back when they were offering their earlybird pricing. However something unforeseen came up the day of the event and I’ve been trying to get a refund for the last three weeks.
They only issue refunds within 48 hours of purchase. In my opinion this is very unreasonable and not a good policy.
2 friends and I booked on for a tough…
Me and 2 mates booked on for a tough mudder event at the Etihad Manchester, unfortunately it was cancelled due to Covid. They had a no refund policy so we accepted being put on the next one- we didn’t know it was over a year away. Anyway I am sent about 10 marketing emails a week from tough mudder which I left on so I would be reminded about my event. There aren’t any comms once you’ve booked, and now looked into it and can’t attend the day
Cheshire experience.
Cheshire experience.
Paid £120 per person for corporate package, this includes 1 x food 1x drink and baggage and 5k.
Food - when I tried to claim food alot of places rejected the token, the one place that took it said that you only get £5 off a meal, the "meal" was a sandwich and still cost £7 with the discount.
Drink- most places didn't accept the drink token, your lucky if you get a can of coke.
Baggage- was fine for myself but a colleague had shoes stollen from her bag. They did nothing to rectify this.
5k was okay but slow due to queing at each obstacle, the obstacles were not as challenging as expected. But this was probably the positive part of the package. Some of the obstacles stated on the package for 5k were not on the 5k route.
All in all a poor package.
We did one in Cheshire today
We did one in Cheshire today, a 15K, the whole thing was well organised and run, there were security checks on the bag drop and flapjack and water on the way round plus free stuff at the end, the T shirts are nice too.
Parking was plentiful and easy and the marshalls were good.
We had a blast, just treat it as you find it on the day and don't listen too much to other people before hand, most of the obstacles were easy and there was a good selection, you don't need a good level of fitness to do this, most seemed to treat it as a walk, but it was enjoyable never the less.
Allow 2 1/2 hrs due to queues at the obstacles, unfortunately if people are hesitant at one (there is always someone) they block the route.
The only criticisms from me was that the state of the toilets left something to be desired and all the silly American style shouting at the start was irritating.
I can't leave 0 stars which is a shame…
I can't leave 0 stars which is a shame because even that would be generous. The customer service we have received since forming the company than my wife has since applying for tickets been diagnosed with a mobility disorder and is now classified as disabled I'm not allowed a refund I got told to to defer my tickets to next year as it her disability would disappear.
The absolute lack of concern for well-being disability or mental well-being is absolutely appalling. The company themselves are only out for monetary gain and have no concern for the individuals that are taking part.
This is not acceptable for a company of such size, I understand that there is a refund policy however extenuating circumstances should be taken into consideration rather than fobbed off and told me have to defer tickets and then pay a premium for the privilege of not being able to do it again next year.
Avoid at all costs unless you have the pre sight to see that you are not going to be disabled because the tough mudder and spartan company honestly don't give two cares about anybody that takes part they only want the money. They also do not even see slightly concerned about the smear campaign that is about to ensue. Let alone the small claims court case which we are about to open, or even the local newspaper all the BBC finding out about the appalling service.
Pure unadulterated discrimination.
Glaring mistakes, but concept could be great.
I really enjoyed some of the track, some good obstacles, but... Arctic challenge reeked of faeces. And it stuck with you. Not sure if this was by design (which makes no sense, not proving anything to yourself or others like that) or if it was actual poo (which would be horrific and frankly incredibly unsanitary), It was 32 degrees yet there was 3 water stations which frankly seem irresponsible. There was no way to wash up after the event either, which considering the arctic enema problem. On top of this it's very pricey.
Zero customer service
Zero customer service, you are not awesome, never again.
Get injured - tough sh!t
Get injured? Not their problem. Money grabbers.
Ripoff £16 admin fee. Waiting over 2 weeks for refund
I was charged a £16 admin fee to switch from April 2022 event to October 2022 event, due to COVID. It's an instantaneous computerised system, so no admin costs are relevant. We can be sure that all such tickets are resold anyway to late bookers so the company is ripping off £16.
A few days later, they cancelled the October event, without reason, so I used the automated refund system and also requested refund of the £16 admin fee. This should have generated an automatic refund to my bank account within 48 hours if TM were an ethical company. Looks like they deliberately delay refunds to earn interest....
Abysmal Customer Service Now it Spartan.
I've run a few tough mudders at Belvoir and the runs and the camaraderie were fantastic. The customer service this time has been appalling.
I've broken my foot and unable to attend, and as I transferred my ticket after they cancelled last year due to covid I'm not entitled to anything. I can drive up to collect my (paid for) t-shirt or I can spend another £9.99 to get it delivered. I've explained I cannot drive (so my kids are missing out on lidl mudder as well), but just got told to get someone else to take us up.
I've always enjoyed my TM's, but it does seem since they were taken over by Spartan, the customer service has gone out of the window. They are still polite, but in no way flexible.
Sadly its time to find a new event run by someone else :(
Really poor
Really poor
Refund process not explained.
They don’t give you refund.
They never get back to you.
They are trying to cling onto all monies.
Unethical company.
Tough Mudder: An Amazing and Rewarding Challenge
I've ran Tough Mudders at multiple venues in multiple countries. The challenging courses keep me motivated to work out and train all throughout the year, and the incredible community keeps me coming back. I love that they change up the course each year, introducing new obstacles so there is always something fun and different. It is a great and rewarding challenge!
Just finished the 10K at Mordon park
Just finished the 10K at Mordon park, rubbish obstacles, one was piggy back one was wheel barrow 🥱 no mud at all at the ‘tough mudder’! Waste of money. Check out Nuclear race. 100% better
