Clay and Yumi are both awesome. When i had a bit of trouble witj my order, which was because of my local post office Clay did everything he could to check what was going on, both from his side and even from my side, and we resolved it. He will always show initiative when there are questions regarding orders or materials for JLPT.

I love Makoto, they have unique ways of teaching that stick with you more than the traditional [outdated!] method: "read a book and memorize it"! If that way never worked for you, definitely give this a try.

The levels are fitting and you can get tons of material to tailor your learning path to what works best for you. The added MP3s for pronunciation help too, be it developing a Japanese ear or getting your pronunciation to sound natural and clear to native speakers.

I’ve been an intermittent customer of TheJapanShop since 2015 when I bought its series of children’s stories. That series is much larger now! I recommend it to beginner/intermediate students of Japanese. The new Makoto app is loaded with features, too many to list here. Detailed explanations of vocabulary, grammar, colloquialisms and history combine for a complete education. I use many sources for my own study. Among those sources, TheJapanShop is the best, all-round single source that I have found for introducing and reinforcing Japanese language skills. (Yes, I am a “Makoto” subscriber.)

I love this shop. Never had an issue with products and they really do mean free updates. Whenever you buy an ebook and they make improvements they send out an updated version to you no extra cost. I also love the app.

I'm a life time member of makoto plus (Clay and Yumi's companion website to the Japan shop) and have purchased some of the book series. The products are great. Each story includes anki cards and audio files and is presented with running definitions/grammar/usage explanations and as stand alone Japanese. The audio files are great. All audio comes in a slow speed and normal speed version. The audio is human native speaker, not machine generated. If you buy the e book version you get free updates. Clay and Yumi also respond to email if you have questions. Highly recommended!

You can tell the true passion they have for helping people learn Japanese. My personal experience learning Japanese has been ongoing for a long time as I need to take it serious to really get it to sink in. The greatest thing about buying digital goods from TheJapanShop is that you get free updates for life. That is one of the biggest benefits by far.

Clay and Yumi have really built something special, their books are amazing, even more so now I can use them on the app. It’s so great, I start an episode, listen while reading it and try to understand what’s being said, then any word I don’t know I can click on and find out the meaning. I can play the episode as many times as it takes to understand it. Makoto+ is awesome! Customer Service is fast and reliable.

I first purchased the Learn Japanese with Stories Bundle in July 2021 and true to their word, it's still being updated to this day. The latest update was adding the stories to their new Makoto app (and website), which is super convenient because you can read the stories and listen to the audio in one place. You can also toggle furigana on and off - very helpful for learning kanji.

I've since purchased the second Learn Japanese with Stories bundle and the JLPT N4 bundle. Everything is great value for money, and they're very responsive to inquiries.

Their emails are also interesting, informative, and educational for someone like me who's straddling the beginner-intermediate level. They never spam. In fact, a few months back they had freeドキドキガチャ pulls for all their email subscribers - I got sweet discount codes out of that.

Whenever there where problems, I would have immediate response. They really care for their customers, and they offer a broad variety of beginner friendly courses.
Also with "Makoto" they provide a japanese learning language magazine which I'm always looking forward to the next issue.

I bought a beginner bundle as a gift for my son. We downloaded it on a tablet we all use at home. My son learned enough Japanese to use with their clients at work. And I learned enough Japanese for my trips to Japan thus far. I might actually take the JLPT one of these days...who knows?
