Cannot fault the care this company gave my mother. Considerate, professional and exceptional. Very lucky to have found them after trialing other companies. Thoroughly recommended.

A uniquely gifted carer during Lockdown

Our mother is completely bedbound. During lockdown, her live-in carer, MZ, chose to stay and support the family rather than return to her native country. This meant she'd worked more than 4 months without a full break, integrating well into a larger than expected family environment. Her cooking was restaurant quality, offering a wide range of international dishes plus homemade pickles, soups and cakes to cater for a vegan, a low carb and and 3 carnivores. She helped mum feel socially connected by making buns and pickles to drop off to mum's shielding, elderly friends. In addition, throughout this worrying period, she remained compassionate, patient and kind, and went out of her way to interact on the level of mum's interests, fulfilling her roles as both carer and companion wonderfully - many times beyond the call of duty (making a hay and lavender pillows, making a fan, sharing ideas and stories in areas of mum's passions). She operates with complete integrity and is sensitive to mum's hygiene needs. She has become a much-loved and integrated member of the family. MZ has been the perfect choice for our mum. We couldn't ask for more!

A mixed beg

In summary, my father's care has been good but the administration has left a lot to be desired. It has taken about a year to get two regular carers who provide some consistency. New carers have twice been sent to the (same) wrong address, and setting up a new Direct Debit has been a frustrating business. The standard of handover between carers has not been good and there have been problems due to carers not reading the care plan sufficiently carefully. One or two carers have been difficult to understand because of a stron accent.

We are sorry to hear that your experience with the administration was not of the quality you expected. We are very pleased to hear that you now have a stable care team that provides an excellent quality of care. Occasionally we may not get the match right the first time and changes to the care team may need to be made. Our regional team commit to always working closely with you and your family to ensure that you are satisfied with the care team and support manage any changes that need to take place and our Central Operations Manager has addressed the concerns regarding the directions and we are assured that this will not happen.

We understand that our Accounts Team are working closely with you to resolve the issues regarding your direct debit and will remain in touch with you to establish a satisfactory resolution to the issues, which unfortunately appear to have been out of both of our control.

Achieving an 'Outstanding' rating in all 5 categories from the Care Quality Commission last year was very much due to us taking ownership and caring deeply about our clients and the quality of service we deliver, so please rest assured, we are looking into these issues and hope to resolve it promptly and accurately.

If you would like to discuss your feedback any further, please do not hesitate to speak to your Care Manager.

MY MOTHER'S OUTSTANDING CARER
My mother is 96 years old and Catherine Minet has been her main carer for nearly three years. She has always been exceptionally sensitive and caring towards my mother who suffers from Parkinsons and has multiple complex needs. During the current difficult times, Catherine's professionalism and dedication to my mother have been tested to the limit and we have been lost in admiration to see how she has risen to the challenge. During lockdown, she continued to remain with my mother rather than return home to Spain which might have put my mother at risk on her return with the result that she worked 24/7 for 17 weeks. During this whole period, she remained unfailingly cheerful and upbeat without ever showing the the tiredness which she must undoubtedly have been feeling. She invariably continues to make my mother's wellbeing her only priority and, with the deteriorating situation regarding Covid19 in Spain, is once again disregarding her own needs to have a holiday and return home to Spain by agreeing to stay on for another extended period so that my mother 's health and safety is not compromised. The Good Care Group could not wish for a better advertisement for the standard of care that it offers its clients!

Excellent care

To add to my earlier review, the carers are excellent, highly motivated and well supported by their employer. They keep house well, cook well and look after my father well. During Covid lockdown one pair of carers worked a 4-month stint without a day off, which helped to protect my father, their colleagues and themselves.

Live in care

Although expensive, the care given is excellent.
My father lost his wife of 73 years on New Years Eve 2019, he also suffers with dementia. TGCG were able to come and meet him, select carers and start within two weeks. They also made sure that I was closely involved with the selection process. I had had several bad experiences with private individuals and companies, who promised great care and failed miserably! I was anxious and afraid of leaving my father with strangers, but the two amazing ladies that were selected have both put so much effort in to making sure that my dad feels safe and happy that I also feel happy.
Would recommend TGCG highly.

Fantastic care

During lockdown Joan’s carer stayed with her throughout and gave up her relinquished her 2 hour daily break in order to keep them both safe. The standard of care provided was (and remains) superb.

SHAMBLES

I employed the good care group to provide respite care for my mother who suffers from dementia. I had problems from almost day one, even at the planning stage the companies representative turning up late for meetings and there seemed to be poor communication between the companies own team members with vital info not being passed on.
When it came to the actual care provided the carer chosen by the company had zero previous experience and although I raised concerns regarding the choice of carer I was assured that they would be suitable. It turned out that the carer lasted 7 days of a 3 week assignment and quit because she couldn't cope. The carer spent most of her time hiding in her room and when my mother was distressed and needed assistance through the night the carer's tesponse was to call a doctor to have my mother sedated which the doctor refused to do!
After only one weeks care myself and family in conjunction with social work had to remove my mother from this companies care and place her temporarily into a care home.

I could go on and on listing the various problems I had with this company and I would definitely NOT recommend the Good care group!

LIVE IN DEMENTIA CARE

When my mother died in 2016 my father was starting down the road of dementia and I had to move my young family into my father's house which was very disruptive. Within two weeks of contacting the Good Care Group the house had been surveyed and we had been allocated a carer who was such a good match that he worked with us for two and a half years until my Dad went into a care home. The set up we had was four weeks on and two weeks off and the guys who provided the two week cover were not as consistant but we found them all well suited to my father's needs. One of these required urgent bereavement leave and this was sorted out within a few hours. We never once had to intervene in the roster at all to cover my father's requirements. Another agency gave the Good Care Group guys a daily break and the two agencies worked very well and flexibly together.
As my father's condition deteriorated the carer's were well able to adjust their care and dealt with all my father's medical requirements as they came up.
When visiting my father's house I felt my needs as a family member were respected and the carers became friends rather than employees as time went on.
I have no hesitation in recommending the Good Care Group for live in care requirements

We used The Good Care Group for 2 week blocks of care on a bespoke rolling service.

We used The Good Care Group for a number of 2week blocks of care for my father this year. Its a difficult thing to get right but working with TGCG was easy and they were very helpful and mindful of the fact that it is a difficult task to achieve well. The carers we had in the main were very well trained and very professional in their approach. I would recommend them but would advise to make sure you are clear of what you require and what you expect. Once this is established it makes it easier going forward and makes sure all expectations are achieved. This would apply to any care company and TGCG delivered very well.

An algorithim to choose carers!

An algorithim to choose carers! How can any self respecting carer engage with or take that kind of selection process seriously!

Why would anyone trust a company that prioritises the outcome of a ten minute online questionaire over 10 years experience and excellent refrences.

Reminds me of what chap who devised I.Q tests said about people who score high in I.Q tests "it proves that they are good at IQ tests" shouldn't emotional intelligence, ability and experience matter more? Just not right at all.

We have a team of professional recruiters who interact with applicants every day. The recruitment process has been designed to ensure all applicants are treated equally and fairly. The first part of our application process is quick online questionnaire which establishes some basic criteria required to perform the role – all of which are based on ‘yes/no’ responses. The next part of our process is the One Experience which presents the applicant with a mix of realistic, hypothetical scenarios in video and audio format and ask the individual to identify the most appropriate response or to rank the responses in the order they feel is most effective. Values, experience and communications skills are tested throughout the interactive experience.

Our selection process ensures all applicants have a real good understanding of the role requirements before their final face to face interview. Our recruiters interview every single candidate face to face which is our chance to spend more time probing experience and attitude, as core skills have been established. The reality of 24/7 care

We have only used Good Care Group to provide 24/7 care so cannot compare to other companies. I think potential clients need to know that paying a lot of money does not mean access to lots of experienced carers. There is a huge shortage of those - I am sure all care providers in the UK face this problem. I think inexperienced carers need more back-up. And please, please GCG, update and improve the profiles of carers you send out. They are very brief and frequently very out of date. That said, we currently have one wonderful experienced carer for 2 weeks out of every 4. Just wish there were more like her!

Excellent Care

My mother is now 98 and totally dependent on the two excellent carers from The Good Care Group who share her 24/7 care. My mother could not be in better hands. The two carers looking after my mother are totally professional, very caring and always go the extra mile and we are obviously incredibly fortunate to have them.

Top Class Care

The Good Care Group looked after my elderly parents for a year, and were excellent throughout this time. They were careful to select carers who as far as possible suited my parents’ interests and background. We very quickly became totally confident in the quality of care (and companionship) provided by the company and this was particularly important because we live 250 miles away.

The carers were all thoughtful, kind and compassionate. They treated my parents with great respect and were sympathetic to their needs, wishes and foibles at all times. In addition to their actual caring duties, they did the washing and ironing, kept the house clean, prepared excellent meals, organised the shopping, liaised as needed with health care professionals, welcomed and looked after visitors, and dealt with all other housekeeping activities.

We were very well supported by the care manager, who seemed to be on duty 24/7 to answer any questions and address issues in relation to any aspects of my parents’ care. She made regular visits to make sure everything was running smoothly and to provide support to the carers.

I have no hesitation in giving them the highest possible recommendation.
