After a very poor experience with Motorway, Jack at TCBG contacted me about a car I had for sale. The sale has just been completed and I have nothing but the highest praise for Jack and all the team at TCBG.
The collection driver, Gary, communicated with me about his arrival time, was thorough but highly professional, polite and stayed with me until payment was received.
Fantastic communication, highly professional throughout and quick to pay.

I recently used this car buying group to sell my late stepfather’s car, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The team were courteous, helpful, and supportive every step of the way. Everything they said would happen did, exactly as promised, so I always knew what to expect and when. The whole process was smooth, professional, and handled with great care. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a hassle-free and trustworthy service

Entered registration and mileage online and given a quote. After sending pictures, was offered less 1/3 the price. No damage to bodywork or major alterations…

Simply told that the mileage was high. Which was already factored in to the original quote.
There was no other information or explanation for the drop in price. All other factors requested were provided and I was informed these did not affect the price.

Put simply, their online presence is a bait and switch. They may claim otherwise and that this is ‘industry standard’. However, the disparity is vast - far larger than any of the other industry teams I have spoken to.

I believe this to be a deliberately misleading process dressed as an ‘offer’ which is simply designed to get you in contact with them. They will then find reasons to reduce the price.

Sell to a local dealer. If they fleece you at least they’ll do so honestly.

I had one of the most upsetting customer experiences I’ve ever had with The Car Buying Group today. I contacted them for a car valuation and was put in touch with a representative called Adam.

At first, everything seemed fine — we discussed the offer, payment, and collection process over WhatsApp. But the moment I asked a simple question about the company’s negative reviews, his tone completely changed. He became defensive, impatient, and started pushing me repeatedly to “secure a slot” for collection even though I hadn’t yet agreed to sell or confirmed any terms. I felt constantly cornered and under pressure when I was only still enquiring.

When I tried to clarify details about timing due to work, he dismissed me in a very condescending way, saying that even customers selling £40,000 cars don’t get to choose a time. Later, when he asked for an authorisation letter (the car was left to me by my father), I sent it with some personal details covered for privacy I didn't need to show at this stage — and that’s when things got really distressing.

Later, when I explained that the car was in my father’s name and that I had an authorisation letter, Adam asked me to send it over. I did so, redacting some personal information for privacy reasons. Shortly after, he called me on the phone in a completely inappropriate tone — raising his voice, speaking to me as if I were a child, and demanding that I send the full document. He told me, “It’s the third time I’m asking for the full document. I’m not going to ask again.” He then said that if I wasn’t going to do what he asked, I should “sell the car somewhere else,” and added, “We’re the one buying your car, not the other way around.”

I ended that call feeling humiliated, shaken, and deeply disrespected. No customer should ever be spoken to in such a belittling and disrespectful way. I’ve filed a formal complaint and provided screenshots of our WhatsApp messages as evidence.

This experience has completely shattered my trust in this company. I genuinely hope they take this seriously and ensure no other customer is treated this way again.

I appreciate your reply and the call today; however, it was made during business hours when I had already mentioned that I work during the day.

To clarify a few key points:
1. “£40,000 cars don’t get to choose a time.”
This comment was made while discussing my car, which is a low-value, category S vehicle. The comparison to “£40,000 cars” felt unnecessary and patronising, especially given the context.
2. Letter of authorisation.
Adam was insistent on seeing the full unredacted document in order to “secure a slot,” treating my enquiry as if I had already agreed to a booking when I was still only asking questions about the process. His exact words — “I’ve asked you three times; I won’t ask again,” and “You can sell elsewhere” — made me feel humiliated and diminished. At that stage, I had provided sufficient details for an authorisation letter. I had not yet agreed on a price or a collection date, so sharing full personal details felt unnecessary and intrusive.

The reason I felt disrespected was about how my query was handled — the irritated tone, the patronising and condescending manner, and the dismissive language that no customer should be spoken to with.

I do not need to listen to the call recording to validate how this made me feel. I’m not here out of malice or to damage a business’s reputation — I’m someone who always shares positive feedback when it’s deserved. But this experience was unacceptable, and I’m sharing it so others don’t have to go through the same.

I will not be engaging further privately as I’ve already found the interaction upsetting, but I stand by my review as an honest account of how I was treated. I hope the company genuinely reflects on how tone and communication style can impact customers — not just on procedure, but on trust and dignity.

That said, I still appreciate your investigation and your effort to clarify matters.

Well what can i say!,, I enquired about selling my corsa- the process was so easy, they came out the same day/ checked over the car/ checked the details/ i got a price i was happy with & it was taken away for auction!!… Im Extremely happy with tge service i received! No fuss, no problems. I got a courtesy call from Morgan and tge payment was in my account within the hour- 100% recommendation from me!!…. Thankyou ‘car buying group’ Fab job!!!!

Fast efficient service and a fair price for my car.

Smooth experience , they were honest on the phone about the price and even gave me advice on to change my alloys back to original factory fitted ones as I put 20 inch alloys on mine and it would have been less.
They even gave me £900 more than competitor who have adverts none stop claiming they give the best deals !

Really straight forward process.
Accurate information and didn't knock hundreds off the final quote.
Payment transfer quite and before my car left the premises.
Assessor was really pleasant and efficient.

After the initial disappointment with the valuation, we decided to proceed. The process was simple and everything went through without any hitches. I "Sold" my car 3 times on CarWow and not one of the buyers collected it or even reached out to me to arrange collection. No idea why they bothered but it was a complete waste of time.

Then I reached out to carbuyinggroup and they made me a fairly competitive offer that I was happy with and the car was gone within 5 days (That's only because I wasn't home for that long to facilitate collection sooner!)

The driver arrived first thing and did his checks on the car, the only advice I'll give to people is be honest! They're not tyre kickers but they will be thorough so if you're trying to get away with one then this probably isn't for you! That being said they don't seem to mind there being issues providing you disclose them - My car had a check engine light, a warning to stop the car whenever you started it, a big football size dent in the door and a scuffed bumper. I was obviously up front about all of the above and got paid after the inspection.

They settled finance for me and i'm one step closer to emigrating now so thanks CBG for helping with that!
